Actually, that is a double handed long sword, not a a straightsword. This is Li Zhen's traditional weapon. His traditional open hand is Baji Quan, which he is also quite good at. Actually, he was the national Baji Quan Champion a few years back.
With his knee issues I'm surprised he didn't retire sooner. He hasn't competed in a while except for smaller tournaments. I think his training was mostly related to his degree program at the University, or least that was the impression I got from him last we talked -- which was admittedly a few years back now. Probably back in fall of 2007 come to think of it... Yeesh. Time flies.
holy crap, if his training was only in regards to his degree, that's really impressive, he's hovering around national level. much stronger than the other uni athletes in 07.
but oh, the nanquan knee. watching the gz team train was literally section-ice knee 5 mins, nandu-ice knee 5 mins... time flies than nanquan knee ends your run :(
Oh, no. Originally he was competing (quite strong) for the Shanghai Team, but after he got injured around 2004 or 2005 he focused less on competition and more on training and school. (Or as I said -- this was the impression I got from him. I might be mistaken)
Yeah .. my knee needs some icing too. Training in China is going to be the death of my legs ...
if you look good you can see he is or was a baji quan practioner
because of his stances and i see some techniques he is using in his nan quan form:D
