  • WKY officially became KTVY in January of 1976.

  • When WKY AM and TV were split, it is my understanding they wanted KYTV (which is in Springfield, MO), but they couldn't get those call letters changed so they grabbed KTVY to honour the WKY heritage.

  • Oh my bad, KTVZ wasn't in Oklahoma at all, must been in another state (Utah or Arizona?). There was a KTVX in Tulsa, but another TV station uses "KTVX" (an ABC affiliate on channel 4) as a current call sign in Salt Lake City. +

  • @devulboy1 KTVZ is the NBC affiliate in Bend, Oregon.

  • Not bad, the NBC station for Oklahoma and was received on TV in Tulsa 100 miles to the east. I read an article on KFOR (KTVY/WKY) on wikipedia, and read there was a KTVQ, KTVX and KTVZ in Oklahoma. Are they part of the KTVY/WKY legacy? All the stations changed call letters when a new owner purchases them or switches network affiliation. +

  • KTVQ was the ABC affiliate in OKC in the 50's (channel 25) but it went dark in the late 50's after KOCO (then KGEO) channel 5 moved to OKC from Enid. KTVX was the former call letters of Tulsa's KTUL. Neither was related to KTVY in any way. I've never heard of KTVZ.

  • Whoa, major blast from the past there. This must be from like the late 70s or something. I was tiny when channel 4 was KTVY.

  • Yes! Please post more, this is the first logo i've seen of KTVY before the rainbow 4 logo they use to have.

  • More please!
