  • this guy was a legend

  • my teacher wanted me to see this and i thot it was very inspirational.

  • I've also heard that one of the biggest factors preventing the epidemiology of cancer moving forward is that we have so many "ethical" roadblocks since researchers can't test on humans. 50 years of research and we know a lot about cancer in mice... but that doesn't help us very much. People like Randy Pausch pay for that.

  • this man is an inspiration........I will have his photo on my table ... !!!!

  • God bless this man, for he has touched our hearts and souls in a way that no man ever could. He has accomplished his goal - he has stamped his message on my heart.

  • @Cannonfodder4000 and u write wrong spelling

  • 0:28

this man knows that he is about to die

    . . .and he is smileing . . .

  • @cannonfodder4000 I know a mother that is about to die in a few months. She is spending every minute with her baby, enjoying every moment. She is recording images for her son to be able to look back and know what a loving mother he had. By the way, the father was killed in an unfortunate accident.

  • In nature, in the tropical jungle there are chemotherapy treatments which do not cause the horrible side effects that western medicine has...

  • If they actually work in clinical trials they WILL BE western medicine, just like countless others.

You know what they call alternative medicine that works? Medicine.

  • No, I'm pretty sure those medicines were known to the mayans for example:

The problem was that the Spaniards destroyed their culture and we lost some knowledge about them because of that. Anyways, I think the kinds of diseases we have today is because they way in which we eat, pollution etc. Things unexistent in the past.

  • I swear this man is magnanimous.

  • randy paush

  • Man if this guy isnt one of the stongest most caring inspirational men ive ever seen i dont cry easily and this mans journy touched me moved me and most importantly inspired me RIP Randy GOD BLESS his family and all of you.

  • @cameron91101 Maybe god could have blessed him and not killed him eh?

  • @alexanderblake I agree its not fair all we can do i guess is try and take a positive from it and appreciate everyday and take nothing for granted it can and does happen to any1 everyday this man is 1 of the toughest men i ever saw and thats what he has shown us live everyday like its your last and made us realize whats important in the grand scheme of things when tradegy strikes he put things in perspective when we think of crying over the silliest most trivial things.

  • @alexanderblake Maybe you should understand how this world works before you start bashing the Good Lord. Who made up this epidemic? Who has the cure but won't let it come out because cancer is HUGE business? Think, could it be man? People die for reasons we do not know, your blaming of the Good Lord for not stepping in is really dumb. Learn, don't hate.

  • @blite13 You're a fucking retard.

  • @alexanderblake is your logo a real picture of yourself? If it is, I feel bad for your mom.

  • @cameron91101 This guy was inspirational.............so so touching.

  • he s a really brave man.

  • A brave man. Thanks and rest in peace sir.

  • He died 4 months after this.

  • well hopefully we can get this under control. You know this kind of cancer is becoming more and more frequent. So wed better do someting or we could find ourselves in his position.

  • 8 vaLid reasons why I love this 8 min "Video (Book)"

    1) 0:37 - the pain - but still he made it

    2) The stats he had - Mann... he was flawless ... 5:48, "the most informed Pancreatic CANCER patient"

    3) "Trade for aids" the comment to his wife .... conveying his pain so easily... so "focused"

    4) "I never smoked, never drank, exercise...." Godddd...... :(

  • 5) 4:50 - MY WIDOW - Hats off to that "Lady Love" - for the very simple reason that she wake up every morning (till the D day) - checking whether her hubby was ALIVE OR DEAD and "be happy" if he was alive, only for a period of "next" 24 hours; and even that happiness is over

    6) 5:46-7:43 : a 2 minutes answer summarizing "The Current Research Trend"; but he himself pointed out that "Young bloods" can change it, hopefully we can take a leaf out of his statements and address this issue

  • 7) A complete Package - a good SON, LOVER, HUBBY, FATHER, RESEARCHER, in short "THE IDEAL MAN", breaking the paradox that "Ideality is not Possible... feasible"

    8) and why was it so touchy..... the reason 4:39 - "Logan".. "Super Logan" - My name is "Logan"athan... am a PhD student and it moved me so muchh, Love you Father, THE SCHOLARLY FATHER

  • So you think that money is the root of all evil. Have you ever asked what is the root of all money? Money was invented by great, honest human beings as a tool of trade. Nothing else. People that make bad choices with their money or to get money are evil. Before money people traded goods and services. All money did was make it easier to trade. To say a tool of trade or to love money is evil is incorrect and irrational.

  • Bill Gates is sending millions of dollar to other countries. We all know the politicians pocket it most of it. He should be helping the country that made him rich, and donate to cancer research here.

  • money is the root of all evil

  • The correct and more accurate phrase is, "The love of money, is the root of all evil."

  • Thank you!

    RIP!

YOU HAVE INSPIRED ME BEYOND WORDS!

  • RIP. This guy changed my life when I listened to that time management lecture... HE is my leader.

  • money shouldn't come into the equation, if it is a fact that more reseacrch can help prevent this disease, then it should be done without question. people should put themselves in the position of others.

we all have a responsibility to look after each other, not just for today but also the future generations

  • Pancreatic cancer should really be nipped in the butt, and I think that amazing people like Randy Pausch are just tragic. This type of matter should be combated, and why it isn't is beyond me...

  • It is nice every now and then to find someone you can admire and who brings out the best of humanity. Goodbye dear Dr.

  • Dude You're right, its true.

  • Dr. Randy Pausch inspires me to live life everyday to the fullest capacity....My thoughts are with you as well as my prayers are with your family and friends... Rest In Peace you did help people

  • What a Brave man, God bless him and his family.

  • Cancer: Curing the Incurable Without Surgery, Chemotherapy, or Radiation (Paperback)

    by William Donald Kelley

  • He is a inspiration ~

  • It's heart breaking and inspiring at the same time. He inspires me to squeeze every last drop out of life and to never take good health for granted because people are dying everyday and would give everything for another crack at their dreams... So thanks Randy, and I'm sure you are missed dearly.

  • This is a horrible des. My father-in-law passed away 3 years ago from this. He was in such great pain. It is the only time in my life that I have been at the side of someone when they died. I hope no one ever has to go thru that! God Bless Dr. Pausch, family and friends.

  • R.I.P.

  • what a great man. I dont know a person that could not fund a cause like that

  • his spirit and message will always be with us.just like Bruce Lee

  • what a great man

  • Millions of dollars go to pay CEOs and Company Presidents for nothing more than having a title while good people like this die everyday because of underfunded medical research programs. Its vulgar isn't it? Shame on you if you have more than you need while good people die around you. Your reward will be painful and everlasting.

  • I just agree completely.

  • @NomadDad57 Underfunded programs and ridiculously rich people have no correlation. Even if he was ridiculously rich he still would have died of this disease. That said, it's probably the worst thing about the world that people in unfair ways like this.

  • @ambigera: I don't think I said he died because he was poor. Or that him being poor caused him to die. Or that only the rich live. I'm sorry but I fail to see your point. My point was that money is wasted. Money is a tool. And we use it wrong. And when we do there are consequences. It's very sad. Only so much money to go around. And since both variables require the same funding from money then underfunded programs and ridiculously rich people do have a correlation. Our values need re-adjusting.

  • @NomadDad57 I was making two points in my comments. One of my points was that you were wrong to say the rich live because even if he was rich he would have died of that particular pancreatic cancer. My second point I made was that there is no correlation between underfunded programs and rich people. Though I could argue with you about that, I think it's better if we agree to disagree since these sorts of arguments never end.

  • @ambigera Sorry I just reread your original comment and I take back my first point, you didn't say the rich would live.

  • @ambigera: Once again ... you are miss quoting me. Obviously you didn't or cant understand what I was saying. I was not wrong. And you have yet to make any sense. Please stop your thoughtless, fact-less misguided attacks on me. And you made no point at all. Your comments are ignorant and pointless to say the least. You have no argument. This has been totally one sided to this point. You have no idea what you're talking about. You are out of your league.

  • I love Dr. Pausch. He is (was) superhuman in his elocution. I dont think his "my wife/widow will have to raise these three children on her own" hit that stupid ass committee hard enough. he should have been scribbling out his image, X-ing it off, doing everything to emphasize the fact that he is not (essentially) in that picture anymore. RIP randy...

  • I really feel strong for the late Dr. Pausch. He made me believe in my life and got me to understand how this type of cancer along with so many others are life changing. After seeing The Last Lecture on Oprah actually, Dr. Pausch reinvented my awareness of the need for areas of research to destroy the awful diseases. Moreover, he refreshed my sense of living life to the fullest.

  • at least he isnt suffering anymore

  • so far 8,542,287 have watched the Last Lecture.

  • I was moved to tears with this video especially the part where he is holding the picture of his family and explaining (Suprise by his address to his wife). Clearly if you have watch other videos of him including "The Last Lecture", you will notice a difference emotionally from him.

  • Thant's a Brave Man.

  • incredible guy. true inspiration

  • Great guy so different in approach to his life to me. FYI, cancer now kills so many because the diseases that used to take them out first have largely become ones that we survive.

Therefore what is left to kill you will kill you. DUH!

  • My father died of lung cancer about 3 years ago and many doctors had predicted that he would die, but they didn't treat him fairly.

My Question to this is: How did cancer (any kind of it) become such an effective disease?? Why does it seem to be the most effective and deadliest of all diseases since it affects entirely too many people in this world?

  • If only pancreatic cancer (and other forms, e.g. prostrate), received half the attention that the now more controllable, highly publicised breast cancer receives!

This man was/is an inspiration to everyone!

  • There probably is no cure.

Spending money does not get you a cure if there isn't one.

You can't live without your pancreas.

I assume the only cure might involve a transplant.

The problem with that is two fold.

By the time pancreatic cancer is diagnosed it probably has spread to other organs in the body.

Even if you can perform a transplant what good would you have done.

Second when you do a transplant you you have to control the bodies immune response.

That will only help the cancer to spread.

  • I think the cure has to include some kind of way to diagnose it in it's early stages.

There might be a stage in the disease process before the cells become cancerouse.

You might be able to prevent it from getting to the next stage.

    We know that cancer spreads.

There might be a way to stop the cancer from spreading to the pancreas from other organs.

Spending money on research for a cure will only take money away from research to prevent a person from getting the cancer.

  • FYI, Randy wasn't an atheist. He was a Unitarian.

That tidbit aside, I know that we all like to think that God is deciding who dies and who lives. But think about it realistically: doesn't it seem a bit ridiculous that God passes over people saying, "You die, you live, you die..."? I think that God is far more hands off than we believe him to be. Bad things happen to good people. I don't think that it's that God doesn't care, I just think that he's more of an observer of the natural order.

  • Randy was an inspiring Atheist.

  • who gives a fuck! hes still inspirational

  • Today, I have sorrow for tomarrow I need hope, I am sorry.....

  • Randy Pausch is my hero

  • I am thankful that Randy made the public aware of pancreatic cancer. What I hope is that someone picks up this ball and keep it rolling until legislation is in place to fund research and this man's life is not in vain and other's don't suffer a similar fate. I am praying for his wife and children because I know they miss him dreadfully a lot right now. I'm hear to say that you will be alright. Remember that God's got your back even when it seems that you are alone.

  • Then why didnt God help him? What a load of shit.

  • Depends what you mean by "help". Ever considered the thought that the lessons we learn from even a painful experience has some way of making us stronger? Next time you could think and define the context of your question before asking.

  • God is a sovereign God. He don't act on anyone's command but he is merciful and kind. He did with Randy what he is going to do with you and me also. He gave you life and when he takes it back is his business.

  • I don't have any evidence that there any kind of "god" to be "sovereign". But hey, people die and if in your fantasies you want to attribute that to a "sovereign god " Then go ahead!

  • I don't see how religion fits into this. People die either of diseases, or just of natural causes.

If I break my leg after jumping off the roof, that's not God's work; that's my fault. If I graduate from college, that's not God's work; that's my achievement. If i die from getting shot, that's not God's work. Did God tell that person to shoot me? If there is a God, then you're following the God that tells President Bush that it's okay to invade and kill.

What a great man Randy was.

  • I highly appreciate your words, love, patient, simplicity and your gentle behaviour.

I wish we had many of Randy in our world, because we need to be educated properly, encouraged indeed. Randy, I swear on my god that I miss you too much and whenever I watch your videos I feel very much sad but I can not prevent myself from watching your interviews and lectures. I sincerely and humbly have special regards to his brave wife and lovely children. May god bless you Randy and your soul rest in peace

  • May he rest in peace

  • He's bitter that such a deadly cancer has little to no publicity or funding whatsoever.

  • not bitter just want to live , some of the people with aids get to live for more than 20 years, not him he only got 1 year to live, so how dare you call him bitter you asswhole becuase this month i get to bury my dad that only had this cancer less than a year and a friend of mine who had aids for more than 15 years, no one should suffer either way but i would love to had my dad 15 years more like my friend! cause my dad was my beast friend!

  • He was DYING idiot of course he is bitter.

  • Excuse my ignorance... what is an SJs?

  • He's clearly in physical pain.

  • We are ALL dying. It is the only thing absolute.

He's lucky he gets to know when and how he is dying. We're lucky because he decided to use his time to share his powerful message.

  • i agree that it is a sad end, and the inspirations of Dr. Randy will continue to touch hearts but i think you are letting your emotions get a hold of you christi mungta. making a law seems a little bit extreme dont ya think?? We have many people who die and are remembered in high esteem...

  • Mr Randy Pausch Inspired the whole world. Every child must watch this 'last lecture'. This last speech should be in high school books so every child can learn from this. It should be a law.

May God rest him in peace.

  • :(

    your cynicism is upsetting

  • Dr. Pausch deliberately didn't talk religion in his last lecture.

It seems fitting to respect his sentiments in our thoughts of him.

  • wow Glocker, it's really people like you that make the world a better place, isn't it.

  • Glocker is a sad, ignorant excuse for a human being. Wat it is aobut great people like Andy, Martun LUther King, etc, that some people can't stand. They see their own failure highlighted by his success, and they must tear him down, i pity u glocker

  • great man, rest in peace. I hope people support pancreatic cancer research.

  • ily randy!

  • Rest in peace

  • If you want to give to the pancreatic action network - where he has a fundraising page set up (for research, all of it) you can go to firstgiving dot calm forward slash randypausch

I hope to see that fund grow and grow in honor of this man's memory and in hopes of helping others who don't even know they have pancreatic cancer yet!

  • how old are you?, seriously why would you say this?. i feel very sorry for you, you obviously have problems.......

  • desde españa te decimos... tu eres tonto de nacimiento no???

  • GLOCKER999 should be named GLOCKER666! The world is so much worst with people like him around! Tsk, tsk, what a waste!

The world is full of misery and pain, Glocker999, why don't you strive to help out instead of spreading evil?

  • Randy Pausch was a gift to our world. If you have ever experienced cancer personally or had someone you couldn't live without die from it, you understand how incredible it is for these two individuals to live with this perspective. There are always going to be people who spread hate or honestly ruin something so special. Let them be haters and know that they are living in sadness, and anger. There is a choice. We can also listen to randy and live with passion and joy!

  • The highest power you will ever obtain is a Mcdonalds fry boy at best. So think before you comment about a man who has accomplished more in 1 lecture than you will in your whole life. A piece of advice being that clearly your parents haven't given you any, Showing your true ignorance isn't very flattering. Dr. Randy Pausch R.I.P.

  • This post responds to glocker9999.

  • Yes, that's very nice.

    *pats on the head*

  • If hes a prick then what are you?

  • You still here?

  • Someone needs a hug.

  • Haters don't need hugs, they need to hate.

  • So that's what it comes down too... he doesn't believe the same thing as you. How typical. Now it all comes out. Simple playa' hatin'.

By the way, Jesus or whoever you believe in would be so proud of your comments here.

Hopefully there are a ton of Dr. Pausch's in the after life and very few people with an attitude like yours. I'd rather be in hell than a heaven consisting of people such as yourself in it.

  • And so far you have given not one example or FACT of how this is a crime.

By the way... Why did the government allocate more funding to Parkinson's disease research and treatment after Michael J. Fox spoke before congress asking for just that??

Care to get your argument destroyed anymore?

  • Well, no freaking duh!

All he is asking is for the allocation of funding to pancreatic cancer research. Congress controls the funding to damn near everything in the United States.

All Dr. Pausch is trying to say is; "Hey, this stuff is pretty bad... something more needs to be done to stop this or ATLEAST fund more studies that learn how to detect pancreatic cancer and treat it before it's too late."

That's not asking too much for what the government does waste money on.

  • "...and this is my widow..." I'm so heart broken.

Without knowing you I have cried for you as if you were a close relative of mine. My prayers are for your eternal and peaceful rest and for your family.

You have changed my life. THANKYOU

  • a true hero...RIP

  • he was clutching his belly from the pain

  • What an inspiration you are Randy. May you rest in peace. I just lost my wonderful father to this disease - thank you for raising awareness - this is a beast of a disease.

  • Prayers to Mrs. Paush and her children. Rest in peace, Dr. Paush...you've inspired people all around the world...thank you.

  • Dr. Paush was right when he said he was an accidentally celebrity, but accident or not he left the world a little bit better. The real tragedy is that his children and wife lost a father and husband and there in my prays.

  • he's my hero and an inspiration to us all. much love to you, randy. may you rest in peace.

  • All I can imagine is his children watching this years from now. So sad to watch your dad talking about his coming death, so accurately predicting what has now happened.

  • What about hemp oil? it kills cancer cells.I dont know about pancreatic cancer if it has any value.

  • Hemp and medical marijuana have many excellent uses medicinally but I dont think they can reverse tumors and or cancer alone when you are this far along. Either way a good man died to young. Dr. Randy Pausch R.I.P.

  • he was a good man, the world will miss him.

  • My 2 younger cousins lost their mom to stomach cancer, it was horrid watching her waste away until she was gone. I can't imagine what they felt inside, that she was would not be there for their hs graduations or any other part of their lives. But they grew up to be fine young men- Randy, may you rest in peace, may your kids inherit your smarts, humor, and wisdom as a gift to us all.

  • If we would all live our lives like it was our last day, that we had had a terminal diagnosis, just think what a different world it would be. Rest in peace, Dr. Pausch.

  • the real life is in the hereafter. all the titles and wealth you can gain in life, you're not taking them with you into your grave - rip

  • everybody has a 100% chance of dying. but the world was unfortunate enough that you, sir, you of all people, were given this chance so soon. rest in peace, Dr. Pausch, knowing that you have changed the world into a better place thru your actions and words. and I believe I speak for the entire world when I say: thank you.

  • Dr. Pausch was a giant among men and probably one of the finest examples of what a human being could be. His bold and unselfish position to help others with research filled everyone with awe and inspiration. I don't believe there is any logic to life which means I am not a religious man however when I learn of such fineness in a human being I am at a loss for words. Our food is polluted with chemicals maybe research could start there. Truly his life impacted many and is a great loss to earth.

  • Unbelievable bravery. Rest in Peace, Doctor Pausch.

  • this is so sad, RIP

  • You will be missed by everyone whose life

you touched, through your example, your

bravery, your wisdom, your humor, and your

words. My thoughts and prayers are with your

    beloved family. Rest in peace.

  • this is an example to everyone at all levels. I cried for you. God be with you! and your family!

  • **WHAT A BRAVE SOUL!! Thank you for posting this video, for it touched my heart and soul deeply. May Randy be at peace now while looking down on his young ones and courageous wife as they continue his legacy here on earth.** God Bless Mrs.Pausch & family. <3

  • You're quite welcome.

  • He is probably the best proof of morality without religion that I have seen. He is an amazing inspirational soul and quite selfless. I am actually extremely happy that he didn't have a deathbed conversion since it shows he isn't someone that gives into societal pressure easily, especially in this country. Peace and Prosper everybody, carpe diem

  • I TOTALLY AGREE!

He lived with the principles that he fealt were near and dear to him and then died with them. He should be the standard for finding morality in ones life.

    No offense to any religion.

  • THAT is how you live a good life, you do things that make a difference even if they won't benefit you one bit. RIP Randy, I hope your legacy continues to inspire. We need more like you!

  • You can really see the pain when he talks about his family, not about his own life and what he has to accomplish and enjoy.

    Just a sad day.

  • The world will miss him

  • This is so sad to hear. Wish his family and friends strength during this difficult time. What a brave and generous soul the world has lost.

It's awful is that pancreatic cancer strikes people in the prime of their lives. It is scary that nobody knows how to really prevent it. (Like Professor Pausch mentioned, he never smoked, exercised and ate sensibly.)

Hope his wish for more funding and research for eradicating pancreatic cancer will take place.

  • well said Mr Pausch. I wonder if there's some type of annual pancreatic screening

  • damn...he's such an eloquent speaker.

It doesn't matter what the topic is.

    He's a scholar.

  • timothychizmar ur an asshole dude this guy is a amazing inspiration and he is one of the bravest people i have ever seen and all u do is insult him dude u should burn in hell.

  • Your death is a loss to the whole world. God Bless your family. The good Karma will surely pay and they will be well looked after by Almighty. Rest In Peace Dr Pausch.

  • Your Inspiration will Live on forever. RIP Dr. Paush and may God grant strength and peace to your family. You will be missed but your legacy lives on.

  • SAD AS EVER

  • .....Rest In Peace.....

  • I feel how he feels...it's really tough, he has a lot of guts !

  • What a beautiful soul, I cried when I watched this. RIP sweet angel.

  • RIP Dr. Pausch, your last lecture was an inspiration to us all.

  • Ladies and gentlemen, I am a Christian. As for timothychizmar's comments, let us not put him doen, but instead pray for him. That's what Jesus would have told us to do. His comments are immature and non-productive. God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and prayer are all that can change this, not rude comments, for rude commenst put us in the same category.

  • If we could dictate that a % of US government funds given for killing(contracts, pentagon, etc)

would be set aside for research to benefit cures, we could ensure that treatment of pancreatic cancer, paralysis, and other horrific problems would benefit all of mankind. Our foreign policy should emphasize the benefits to all in the world of US science and culture.I hear no talk of this-just of war by our leaders.

  • does anyone know if he is still alive?

  • Yup. He's still alive. I uploaded a speech he recently gave at CMU a couple weeks ago to the graduating class.

  • Not anymore though

  • I know :(

  • Randy Pausch is an incredible man, and so Inspirational. In this lecture you could tell how uncomfortable he was, but put everything aside to try to get funding and a possible cure for Pancratic Cancer. Cancer is a horrible disease! I lost my mother to it, this video brought tears to my eyes...

    God Bless you Randy Pausch!

  • I feel so sorry for his children.

  • I cant believe that you would be so rude. The point is that he is a great man who is dying. She offered her best wishes to him in the way she knew how, everyone has different ways of going about things. Get over yourself. This is not about you, but obviously you are trying ot make it that way.

  • Randy Pausch is a trained researcher and he knows what his fate is. I don't know what my preference would be: knowing my days were numbered so I could get my ducks in a row, or to go suddenly without any thought or fear of dying. Randy is currently sacrificing family time, precious moments with his children to raise public awareness about this insidious disease. If our government can spend millions of taxpayer dollars on research for other diseases why can't it do the same for pancreatic cancer?

  • They thought my dad had pancreatic cancer I thank God every day that he doesn't...and I think Randy is an amazing man with great strength, courage and wisdom....thank God there are people like Randy alive in this world it makes it a better place to be!

  • God Bless you and your family Randy.

    I'll be praying for you.

    Todd

  • Idiot. he's NOT A CHRISTIAN. Preach to urself..

  • Wow. Are you that sensitive? Why do you get so angry.

  • its just a shame when people push religion on those who don't follow it. if you research him and his lecture you'll hear what hethinks of people
