Did Tony become redundant as the other drummer after they guys dropped the glitter? Listening to the sound there's nothing to distinguish the twin drum echo so prevalent in the early recordings.
Saxophonist Harvey on bass, drummer Tony and bassist/singer John on guitar - and the much-missed Gerry on 5-string banjo, even wearing a pick on his thumb! Why, why didn't Bell/Arista Records' Clive Davis push them more in the US? This single had the right sound for American radio!
This brings me right back to the 70's when music was fun {something that Mr Cowell has destroyed!}. Having flicked through all the Glitter Band songs on this site, I realise that today's music is sadly lacking in the Fun Factor!
there is a different version of this song on their 20 Glittering Greats CD (slower, longer and no banjo) this one is much better, plus on this vid, you get the great smile of John S
@1starryeyedkid Tony's tall, but shorter than Pete. For anyone who doesn't have the cover of Rock and Roll Dudes handy in descending order....Pete, Tony, Harv, Gerry and John.
Those were the days! Such a happy song. I LOVED the Glitter Band, especially the gorgeous Gerry. He was a fantastic musician, and the very epitome of Glam Rock for me ~ he was just beautiful.....I was so upset to find that he had passed away. A beautiful star glittering away now. R.I.P Gerry.
Great song. Should have been a bit of a hit at least! Don't think the glam tag helped much by this point. Didn't they change their name to G.Band to try and move on? I loved Gary and the Glitterband. Went to some absolutly fabulas concerts up and down the country in the 70s, {and the 80s, when they toured the universities}gary was a marvellous showman and the Glitterband were a brilliant live band.
This was released in the UK under the band name The G Band and not The Glitter Band. It was the "groups" last release for Bell Records (Bell BLL1481)("b side was Tuna Biscuit"). It was the follow up to People Like You etc. And you are right, it should have been a hit and as a kid I loved their music, still do. Music from the 70's, the glam rock era, I never tire of hearing. Happy days
Wow, never heard this before and now its stuck in my head! I don't think we ever heard this one in Australia. Talk about versatile band - Gerry on banjo, Harvey on bass, Springy on rhythm, even Tony Leonard traded-in his sticks for a guitar!
You're right smgsmith this one wasn't a hit in Australia, but the same applied in the UK. It's one of my favourites as well, it really should have been a hit.

I agree. G Band-tastic. I don't remember Arrows having a TV show - it must have been really short-lived!

this is one of the few tracks that gerry got to play his beloved banjo! and the reason it wasnt a hit was it was before its time as a song.

The follow up to "People like you", should have been a big hit but times were a changing in 1976, one of their best.
