The Rock knew he was taking some time off from wrestling, and so he wanted to go heel and challenge himself by seeing if he could turn all his millions and millions against him, and in the process, it made sense to help put over Goldberg and any new face he could.

Ultimately that job fell to Kurt Angle putting over John Cena. :/
