Nice to see someone programming some other than presets!Nice job!
I love the ESQ & SQ(these are US built!) line as well as VFX line for that matter. You can get amazing analog sounds and evolving pads "if" you spend the time with the machine and these are nothing compared to programming a Wavestation.
I made an whole recording recently on the ESQ-1 and VFX-SD. Check out Alpha Wave Movement "Soniq Landscapes".Soniq as in Ensoniq~
@synthpathetic Do you mean with this particular one or with synths in general? Is there are user group or fanclub for this one? You can usually find manuals on the net. "Analog Synthesizers-Understanding, performing, buying" Mark Jenkins is a really helpful book. Things only started to make sense after reading this and I haven't got a synthesizer to try out yet!
had mine since '86. Sounds never get old... and makes an awesome controller for synth programs like Reason... Highly under-rated / misunderstood keyboard. If people new/understood it's full capabilities, these would sell consistently in the $600 - $1200 range. I will never let mine go.
I kinda miss mine! God that thing was heavy as HELL lol but whew u can program some SICK analog bass/lead/brass/pad patches on that thing. I kinda wanna get those sounds back into my arsenal but would rather go for the module version & edit patches using a pc editor because that thing was so damn heavy for its size lol
That was my first real "pro" synth when I was 19 years old, I absolutely loved it, also used my old cassette player to backup the data out or it.
Unfortunately, something weird happened with some circuits that made the OS to not boot at all, or go crazy, one day it ceased to work at all and I made a beautiful lamp with the keys hehahaa
@chiodos82 The MIDI controller functions can be steered via the sequencer menus. It is all available in the user manual. I am in the process of trying to get mine loaded into a PDF. Will come back and let you know where it is when I get it done. I don't think anyone will complain about the manual being posted due to the age of it.
Hey I was just curious about this synths sampling, can you chop drums and shit like you would on an asr. or is it pretty basic in sampling capibilities. thanks
@GrillLoc the esq-1 has 32 waveforms, some analog, some digital, and some samples, but no, you cannot make your own samples with the esq-1. hope that helps
Goddamm you are one sick individual! Why don't you leave that poor keyboard alone? Jeez that's alot of buttons to push to get to that last sound! Seriously tho, did you upgrade to V3.5, mine is original 1.2, not sure if it's worth upgrading, sounds pretty good now. -tx for the vid, got any of you jammin the funk out of it?
@hankjive Just picked one up last weekend for $160. Has minor cosmetic dings on front and low battery warning. Vers 3.4 firmware. Everything works great. Beast of a keyboard. Got a battery on order with Digikey for replacement. If you have one of these have loads of fun wih it. I know I am.

Had one, broke it while moving, gave a second life to its chips in my lame attempt at an "ESQ-0.125". Now I want one, again!

The ESQ-1/ESQ-1m had one of the best 8-bit piano samples, though.

Too bad my Korg isn't as easy to program as this thing...

what is your OS? I am contemplating a 2.3 model, but is it necessary to upgrade to 3.5 even if you don't do alot of MIDI/sequencing stuff?

I just bought one of these and this was a great walkthrough tutorial! This is a very versatile synth for how little I paid for it.

No, the ESQ-1 has no sampling capabilities. It a DCO synth with analogue filters.

@GrillLoc you're probably thinking of the SQ-80 or something.
s3rris 1 year ago
@s3rris The SQ-80 doesn't sample, either. It's basically the same synth as an ESQ-1 but with more waveforms to choose from.
