Great video, often wondered about going to fly the ridge from Lasham but very wary of landing out in the Janus as it needs 4 people to de-rig, just wondering how high you can take the ridge lift amsl before needing to find a thermal? Or, do you just motor away?
@MrTumnus8896 Everyone flies the ridge from Butser Hill to Eastborne and if the wind is Northerly with about 10 kts or more the ridge should work. Great little book "Soaring the Southdowns Ridge" by Dick Dixon is excellent reading, you can get it at the Southdowns Gliding club at parham. I try to fly the ridge at or just under the crest and top up the altitude to cross the gaps and with a Nimbus 4 that is a lot less than with a Janus.
@MrTumnus8896 about 1700-1800 feet amsl. if there are thermals they are mostly being triggered on the ridge so you can climb away from the ridge in them.

@mwering Ho high can you get in the ridge left to fly away from it?
