Ice Fishing Basics : Drilling Ice Fishing Hole With Hand Auger

i bought a hand auger recenty and it takes a really long time to get threw the ice the ice is about 1.5 feet thick but it take 10 min. to drill 1 hole any pointers

Oh wow. I bought that exact same hand auger at a thrift store for $2.50.

I had no idea it was for ice fishing...I was using it this whole time for dirt! lol

NO YOU DON'T REVERSE IT! Reverse drilling will leave these two little ice chips still connected to the bottom of the hole. These are razor sharp and will cut your line.

man my family used to have to drill more than 20 holes a day there was over 2 feet of ice it was a job but now we got a gas auger yayy it is so easy to use

Man I want to ice fish so bad. But I love in Oklahoma. So its not cold enough to fish. I want to so bad.

hand augers are nice if your only going to drill 1 or 2 holes,......... but if your going out for a whole day and plan on moving around the lake a little a gas auger is worth luging to the lake,........ i got a 6' hang auger and an 8' jiffy gas auger,...... the gas is nice too when you live in ontario and sometimes have to drill over 2 feet of ice lol

The blades dull easily, they get knocked off pitch easy. When the blades get knocked off pitch they wont bite into the ice and cut worth a damn. I have a Laser hand auger right now made by strikemaster and I love it.

i hate hand augers they take alot longer than gasoline augers like mine

Good video. My buddy and I use the 8 inch and we both make the hole at the same time by standing across from each other. One puts his hand on top the the other guy's hand on the top and both twist the auger at the same time. It works well when you have 2 feet of ice like we get in northern Ont. ( of course now we are spoiled with the power auger.)
