i dont really want orange blood angels so would this work for darker blood angles?

step 1: merc. red over a black base

step 2: baal red wash

Sure, but that will look more Khorne then Blood Angels. But how you paint is entirely up to you! It sounds like it will look good.

Been playing the BA for 10 years and I been always wondering what the blood angels are? cant really get a grip on that besides that they are kinda vampire like and thats even thou i red everything there is to know about them.

I mean the Dark Angels are kinda Monk, the space wolves/ vikings, BlackTemplar/Knights, Grey knights/Paladins, white scars are Mongols/hunters etc etc

I thought about the NMM, but an 'eavy metal guy wrote an article in White Dwarf saying that he doesnt believe in it.. or maybe he was a guest painter... some featured dude. He uses metal. I have a feeling the whole NMM thing is a fad, and people say how much it has to be used, just because it is new. I think when it comes down to it, the judges will see beauty weather it is metalic gold, or NMM. I hope

check it again, i dont think i said, if I did, thats not what I meant. when I do my table top quality, I simply paint it all white, then all red, then deep wash into the crevaces, then highlight once or twice. On my top quality ones, i base them black, then pick out all the armor plates with mechrite, red gore, blood red, then highlight with blazing and fiery. I leave the cracks black. Then i will wash after all that.

That is the accepted belief, but I am not sure I agree. According to their judging rubric, it is the opposite. They say that models may be on a scenic base, but must be modeled on a standard base that is removable from the large base. Judging of the models is done with them removed from that base. Now, I am of the school that bases compete with the model and a lot of guys will try to hide weak painting skills with a creative flashy base. Or just overdo it thinking that is what people want.

Soo, my painting skills are far superior to my basing. I will showcase them and minimise the bases. I will do something, but I am thinking a teraced windswept rock face... 2 or 3 levels... with the individual bases made to cut right out of the rock. I definitely wont do the cliche dead opponents at their feet etc. I'm thinking them all looking off in the same direction at some incoming threat... Dante on the ground pointing his perdition pistol in defiance... his broken axe on the ground..

But as for the judges and bases... I dont think they make much difference at all. They help, and should certainly be more then simple sand and flocking, but can just as easily hurt, especially since I lack the skills to do them amazing...
