I became fascinated with this song while watching the blaxploitation movie "Black Ceasar". I'm so thrilled I found it here. This is the opening song of the movie so of course the song wasn't played in it's entirety. The lyrics were/are intriguing to me so I just had to find this song so I can listen to it completely.
JAMES WAS TO MUCH FOR HIS TIME.......PEOPLE REALLY DID NOT LIKE HIS VOICE.....BUT......THE MESSAGE IN THE MUSIC.....WE CAN RELATE TO ALL OF IT IN THESE TIMES.....THIS DUDE IS "THE GODFATHER OF SOUL"
@MrKoolkh Jim Brown was made famous because of that voice. during his time he was the voice of the minority. powerful lyrics that still ring true today. James brown was obviously the man.
Ain’t no where to be, but where can you go? When you’re down and out in NYC Said I’m never, never, never gonna get that way again No, no, no, no not me When you need a friend, troubled mind When you need a friend, gotta troubled mind Ain’t nobody gonna give you one thin dime Friends can be cruel, Sometimes can be sweet But what, what bugs a man, what hurts a man when I get my drink Just can’t get nothin’ to eat, that’s NYC, that’s NYC, NYC Harlem &?? 25 street… Bricks… 8th Ave
I'm 27 and unfortunately I discovered James Brown's music about 6 months before his death. This is my favorite song. Now I love his get up to get down, having a funky good time songs. When he slows down and sings like this though it's just great music. In this track Brown pours out so much emotion. It's a gift from god to have a wonderful singing voice, but it takes true talent to sing a song with this much emotion. Listen to his voice and the words. You're dead if you aren't moved.
LOL......I know what you mean. Although it's crime, he made being a gangstar look like such a regular business profession :-)....just so tough and sarcastic but smooth.
This track is incredible. The personell on this record list both Steve Gadd and Jabo Starks as drummers. Does anyone know who played on which tracks? I looked around the internet to find out, without much success.
The epic-ass chorus made me think of iron maiden for some reason, imagine rather than the horns, having electric guitars playing those notes and bruce dickinson singing that part. James Brown is like jesus after being slapped in the face with the funk and enjoying it.
Straight black power music. This was the first black brother to say I'm black and I'm proud on record. Not in a racist way....or was it? And all you uncle tom-ass brothers and sisters just sit back and let Soul brother #1 preach on and may he rest in peace. Sometimes you gotta fight fire with fire if you no what I mean and leave all that non-violence to the uncle toms.
I was born in New York City! see NYC is so fucking awesome we got the late great James Brown singing he was born there when he was born in Georgia thas fucking great R.I.P. James Brown
I almost cry every time I listen to this song because it's so good and so powerful. It's also super-sociological. This song should be required listening in all social science classes.
This song is a muthaphuckker. Man, Harlem around '73 was a mutha. I stayed on the New Haven Line to Grand Central with the MTA Army. Never got off there. Nowadays its as clean as a TV airing of Scarface. My 98 year old pappy could walk it now.
can you reupload this with the intro intact?
