if i was on a desereted island this is the album i could live with forever never get sick of dada i can put this disc on every saturday morning to start the day
Dada is the groundwork to abstract art and sound poetry, a starting point for performance art, a prelude to postmodernism, an influence on pop art, a celebration of antiart to be later embraced for anarcho-political uses in the 1960s and the movement that lay the foundation for Surrealism.
dadaops, on the other hand, seems to be too concerned with his interpretation of what Dada should be in his mind to enjoy the band for what they are. Lighten up. You're an ass-hat!!!
dont forget the 4th, the ballad of earl grey and chamomile rivals anything they have done. thats saying alot as almost all songs from the prior 3 are super rad.
DADA is KING. Best three piece band ever. If you don't appreciate ALL of their albums, you just haven't listened enough. Seein' them live is amazing. How they missed being famous is beyond me. They're the Beatles of the 90's
my boys....how dare you......michael, joey & phil are the BEST people I know. E and +1 will always love our boys. They will always remeber us as we will them!! <3
The drummer and bass player are as talented as Gurney, too. How does their live album compare to this performance?
I'm sure people will ignore the first part of my last post and rip me for saying they lost all of their creativity after their first few years. Dada fans are loyal to a fault. I'm not happy to criticize their later albums, I wanted them to be as good as Puzzle as much as anyone, but ElSub and the self-entitled album are dull-as-dirt duds.
For what it's worth, I agree with you on just about every comment. I was only about 10 when I first heard Dada. I liked it then, and I have only grown to love it more and more. BUT I would say they definitely got themselves stuck in a mold and didn't really evolve with time. Puzzle is outstanding and I reallying enjoy their self-titled album... but the newer stuff for me is only enjoyable on a level that is refreshing compared to the current music scene. I'd still lend an ear to Dada any day.
Puzzle is in my top-5 list and to this day, the Thanksgiving 1994 show in Baltimore was hands-down the finest concert I've ever seen out of 325+ live shows over the past 25 years. Michael Gurley is the finest rock guitarist I've ever seen - only a few blues guitarists, like Dave Hole, Chris Duarte and Bernard Allison are his equal. Unfortunately, they shot their creative wad on Puzzle. AHF was only half the album that Puzzle was and their 3rd and 4th albums are so dull they're unlistenable.
Got to disagree with you ... Puzzle is a great album but there's some great cuts on the other albums too. Time is your friend , I Get High, Santorin and Bob the Drummer are some of my favorites on El sub, and I think American Highway Flower is actually a better album than Puzzle
I bought puzzles on cassette before CD`s came around, played it til all the music wore off the tape. Loved that album, Dorina, posters, here today, all great music.
Would anyone out there know where this Band's real hometown is? I thought I remembered when Puzzle first hit, it stated they were from Santa Cruz, Ca.?? I'm just wondering; because I just re-discovered Dada on this site; having (regrettably) forgetting how strong they were. Dorina just kicks ass; Dim, too
wow, i saw them in chicago after christmas also. I have seen about 6 of they're shows in chicago, they amaze me every time i see them. Whoever said MG is underated, absolutely, he's an amazing guitarist.
Here's a little FYI to make you rethink that statement a bit:
Jimi Hendrix's favorite guitarist was Billy Gibbons, who played in a band that toured with Hendrix, Moving Sidewalks. Billy Gibbons would be one of the three original members of ZZ Top. If the greatest guitarist in history says Gibbons was his favorite player, then Gibbon's band isn't short on talent. Pick another band for your example.
Incidentally, ZZ Top is the oldest band in the world that still has its original members.
I was probably too vague with my comment. I love ZZ Top, And didn't mean to attack their abilty to jam. I was looking at the musical arrangements as a whole. Dada has more complex arrangements than ZZ. Either way both bands put out alot of sound for three guys.
DADA IS ON TOUR RIGHT NOW, LOVE TO SEE THEM IN SF ON NEW YEARS EVE!!!!

Puzzle, American Highway Flower, El Subliminoso, Dada, How to Be Found=Best Albums Ever! Even though I don't have HtBF...
And, yes, Mike Gurley is very underrated; to have Carpal Tunnel and still rip on the guitar like that takes SERIOUS talent!
