I would love the chance to transform an old warbird into a home, a boat, or even make minibuildings from sections of the fuselage, but unfortunately the U.S Government will not sell any aircraft, subs,or large ships to the American public unless it is to be only turned into scrap form (and the ships are to be dismantled in other nations due to enviromental regulations and health concerns). Which is a shame because there are a million different uses that they could be re-purposed for use as ...
if U.S didn't decommission does aircraft it would be 2x or 3x Air power dominance than china and russia.... and sucks you know my country use a old aircraft that had been used since 1960, and Vietnam war..
to think that the american tax payers still haven't payed for all that scrap metal yet, but the corporations that built them, got their money a long time ago.
the guillotine is no longer used and torches are now used insted. insted of just crusing the metal which was found to cause alot of stress on the parts of the aircraft that were going to be re used for other flying ones. the torch dosent have much of a shock of the aircraft then the guillotine
Aircraft scrapyards are all located in areas with little precipitation and firm soil. Few of these aircraft have any chance of getting back into the air. A very few might be sold to foreign governments. The rest will be used for spare parts, then get cut up into scrap. The scrap metal market is the source of this unit's profit. These pictures are many years old. I expect that the B-52s are long gone.
why pick a place that is so hot. the Air Force Material Command should have selected a place in the midwest that do not have tornadoes. I must say the boneyard is impressive
@BeerMoneyLive All reserve aircraft have special coverings on all windows and electronics to signal enemy satellites above that they are out of service.
@rcsparks01 Actually, the B-52's were scrapped under one of the START or SALT agreements. The guillotine might still be there look at Google Earth or Maps for a fuselage with severed wings beside it. It was used to sever the wings and destroy the main spar so that the aircraft were not repairable. They were positioned to be verified by recon satellites. Verification was always a stumbling block to arms reduction until the end of the Cold War when the Russians finally agreed to it.
@rcsparks01 yea... okay whats your point??? theyre out of service but most are able to be returned to service. i'm just saying that we got an entire air force sitting there, and a few bombs could take it ALL out. sure they aint in service now, and it would be really easy for them NEVER to be. Reconditioning of old aircraft is usually a cheaper way of getting more aircraft into service than buying new ones, and saves the United States billions of dollars annually.
These parts along with the stripped aircraft may be sold to other countries.
Depending on the demands of the military or for commercial purposes, an aircraft or a whole squadron of them may be put back into active duty. These may serve as replacement parts for aircraft that are still flying or may be used for reconditioning if and when the aircraft are called back into active duty.

That's what we do in america? We're in a constant and everlasting production process of building planes for 'defense' and we store them in yards like these. How many storage yards does the us have?
@GeneralMaximus4 that "defense" covers most of europe and asia. while we spend billions on defense, those countries spend relatively nothing on theirs. in fact, its what allows europe to freely spend on their socialist programs. we learned that the disarmament after WWI and not being prepared for WWII its best to keep reserves. after all, another stupid political theory will eventually come from europe and start another WW. this time i hope we stay out of it, but unfortunately i doubt it.
@GeneralMaximus4 Just one. Many planes are stored for possible later use. Some are used for target drones. Most provide a huge supply of spares for active aircraft. The B-52s are unique. After the parts are taken, the shells must be chopped up and left in the open for Russian satellites to photograph to prove compliance with treaties restricting nuclear weapon delivery vehicles.
Support Our Troops? You mean support the billions of dollars worth of useless aircraft... retired that were never needed in the first place to fight a war that never happened and would never really have happened because of the existence of nuclear weapons all to justify the most bloated and overpriced military force in the world.
@pmccullo123 supporting the men and women of the armed forces doesn't always entail supporting the government.you could be more concerned with their physical/psychological well being,so you could "support the troops" by "ending the war".seeing stuff the way you are,i think, just misplaces the anger onto the wrong people (the troops rather than the government).
So saying the government spends too much on the military is an attack on the troops? Well wrong. The government and the brass at the Pentagon will spend $ 2 billion for a plane (B2 Stealth) to bomb mud huts in Iraq or Afghanistan yet won't even be ready for the type of weapons insurgents use (improvised explosive devices) so they have to refit armored vehicles which should of already been prepared for such an attack. It's an example of gee whiz weaponry replacing..
@pmccullo123 no,criticizing the government isn't an attack on the troops, however, when you say "support the troops" in such a cynical way it makes it seem like the average soldier has ANY control over that stuff when they don't.the only point i was trying to make was that supporting the troops doesn't have to involve supporting the government.
@tarzanzardoz007 You would be suprised in how old some of the aircraft that is still in service today, example A-10x warthog has been in service since Vietnam and it is still used today in combat. If the Military wants it to run they will get it to run.
@tarzanzardoz007 Not true. USAF is prepared for WWII loses. In the bombing campaing the AF lost 80,000 Airmen and over 13K aircraft. If the need arised again the USAF has boneyards like this just in case. These planes will fly again
Jesus Christ we need to get all these planes in to combat all the fuckin congressman are whining about money ThIS IS WHY if they stop trying to find new technology for aircraft and bring half this shit back in we wouldn't been in the economical situation we are in the US
@TheSh3rman I know it says that all those aircraft can be returned to service but the thing about it is the amount of money needed to do isnt there either. And why use obsolete systems, with the exception of the B52s in this which have been actively serving since the 50s and still are today, when we have new stuff like the raptors
I wish the US gov't would donate some b-52's,B-47 and f-15's to the Philippines for free.... President Obama, if you can read this, please... we need air units for us to protect our precious skies :))
All of this pictures show a repetitive pattern. In one of them even the rust on the planes are exactly the same. Now what would be the chances of that happening? Also the tracks between airplanes is the same. I could bet this is PS.
Time for some serious recycling initiatives!!! Imagine all the things in there that could be used for something else (even making other planes), rather than using new resources!
@lestypuss it is being used to make new planes. in the corner of the boneyard there is a recycling center that does it. however they are still tearing through world war II and vietnam havent quite got to these yet. Especially since the big planes shown, the B52s, are still flown in the air force on active duty
I see a lot more there than just airplanes. I see moon bases, Mars colonies, Apollos 18-50, a real spaceplane that wasn't a flying deathtrap, space stations that are more than just a string of tin cans, a space infrastructure that might actually have done mankind some good...well, I trust my point is clear. None of that's going to happen now, in fact you'll be lucky if you can pay the bills required to keep this junkyard open.
Well, you wanted an empire, America. Enjoy the memories.
Not a nice place for any combat pilot to visit. So sad to see your friends sit in the sun unable to fly again. Then you notice you might be in the same condition.
I live in the Tucson area, and i know that it costs $100,000 just to participate in a bid for just one of the aircraft there. they keep them there until they need to be used or sold as scrap...
THAT BONE YARD IS A SMALL DROP IN THE BUCKET OF WASTED TREASURE THAT HAS BEEN TAKEN FROM THE WORKING CLASS SO THAT THE BILLIONARES AND POLITICIANS CAN PROFIT FROM GLOBAL DOMINATION.
@1IIIIIIIIII1 please explain. tell me what i'm doing as an enlisted member is for nothing. that leaving my wife and two kids to go to war and serve to give complainers like you the ability to talk shit about our government. tell me why all those spec ops guys on that ch47 were there and died. four of those men were extremely close friends of mine. like slept in the next bunk in bmt. please, from your comfortable civilian seat, explain to me what I have to learn.
@lrafbbullrider GO TO MY VIDEO LIST AND FIND A VIDEO CALLED...WHY WE FIGHT... ITS IN 12 PARTS I THINK.....WATCH IT ALL......THEN LOOK UP CHALMERS JOHNSON VIDEOS...SORROWS OF EMPIRE AND THE OTHER TWO, I FORGET NOW....WATCH HIS INTERVEIWS, THERE ARE MANY AND THEY ARE ABOUT 30 TO 60 MINUTES LONG...
FIRST OFF, YOURE CHOOSING TO BE IN THE MILITARY AND DO THE BIDDING OF THE CORPERATE OWNERS AND CONTROLLERS DOES NOTHING TO "GIVE" ME ANY FREEDOMS....DONT DREAM THAT DREAM...ITS AN ILLUSION...
I live in Tucson. During my time in the army national guard out here I got to explore with a tech Sgt. The array of aircraft is impressive. The craziest thing there to me, 54 Titan II missiles. The single largest ICBM ever created by man. 7 MT warhead, 5500 mile range. All are 100% capable of use it their silos were not demolished. Very cool thing to see and they do give civilian tours.
wow US is US ..well I am an indian and I just love US like anything ...the cars , army , the command , the power , politics ....america is america ..I can feel how each americans would be proud of their nation .. all I ask jesus in my prayer is a US tour in my life before I Die ..that barns, cars, hollywood , route 66 heckberry, this one including ..US rocks seriously ...
I was just there and here are some facts. They have just over 4000 complete or partial aircraft. Many of them can not be returned to service and are being used for spare parts or destroyed for scrap medal and many more maybe could with great effort but were never meant to. However, a large number are there only for storage and could be reactivated within a few weeks, others are for sale, some from other nations air forces like the Norwegians who sell their old C130s to anyone online.
why are they exactly there? is it to store planes for when we need it? or are they just outdated?
in that case why not recycle the planes or auction them off.... because this seems like a waste of money because a planes can drop of bombs here and blow up all the air planes because theey are cramed so close to each other
@billytoob Blessed? You are probably one of those "hillbily's" that still thinks America is the best country in the world...lolololololololololololololololololol you've got people that die of hunger, the worst health system in the western hemisfeer, the highest mortality rate among car users, the bigest number of Homicides per capita (only compared with 3rd world countries) and you think that's being blessed??????? what a joke...
@pupilos229 You have no idea what it's like to be an American. It is hands down blessed by God. You don't see us hammering on Portugal, why are you berating America? Why do you waste your time? A little jealous I think.
Our economy is twice the size of the next closest country China and they have 4 times the people we have. We are still "the best"...and always will be...because we are indeed "blessed". Good day...
@cchanderson i dont believe in god...but still i think that America is one of the greatest countrys on this planet however we all forget in the end...were all from planet earth we all share the same faith as the earth and therefore we are equal
@pupilos229 i agree that 'blessed' is a too strong word when such a big country as America could do much better. but don't forget every country has got weakness and strength in some things. Americas is just a bit mor visible then others
I've been here a few times. Sad to see such fine aircraft being readied for the scrap heap, but people don't realize you can only get so many hours on an airframe. They don't last forever.
@wiccanmoonman now, you see...I'm very interested in this. How exactly are you planning to shut my mouth for me for good? Oh, you aren't? Because you can't, is it? Thought so.
I've called in about that many B-52's in Black Ops

Jesus Christ we need to get all these planes in to combat all the fuckin congressman are whining about money ThIS IS WHY if they stop trying to find new technology for aircraft and bring half this shit back in we wouldn't been in the economical situation we are in the US
TheSh3rman 5 months ago
@TheSh3rman I know it says that all those aircraft can be returned to service but the thing about it is the amount of money needed to do isnt there either. And why use obsolete systems, with the exception of the B52s in this which have been actively serving since the 50s and still are today, when we have new stuff like the raptors
lrafbbullrider 5 months ago
I wish the US gov't would donate some b-52's,B-47 and f-15's to the Philippines for free.... President Obama, if you can read this, please... we need air units for us to protect our precious skies :))

All of this pictures show a repetitive pattern. In one of them even the rust on the planes are exactly the same. Now what would be the chances of that happening? Also the tracks between airplanes is the same. I could bet this is PS.
Vavelush 5 months ago
@Vavelush Nope, sorry, but this is real. Try searching on Google maps. Just copy the name of this video and switch to Google earth or satellite.
Mastermunks 5 months ago
@Vavelush The "rust" you see is the B-52 Camouflage paint. It was made the same, hence the same "rust" pattern

Time for some serious recycling initiatives!!! Imagine all the things in there that could be used for something else (even making other planes), rather than using new resources!
lestypuss 5 months ago
@lestypuss it is being used to make new planes. in the corner of the boneyard there is a recycling center that does it. however they are still tearing through world war II and vietnam havent quite got to these yet. Especially since the big planes shown, the B52s, are still flown in the air force on active duty
lrafbbullrider 5 months ago
How old are these videos? I live in Tucson and have seen, over the years, the inventory dwindling. It is a sight to see though.

Very cool thing to see and they do give civilian tours.

how is usa blessed lived in uk ans usa and they both seamed the same to me
pierstebbutt22 8 months ago
Ok, update:
I was just there and here are some facts. They have just over 4000 complete or partial aircraft. Many of them can not be returned to service and are being used for spare parts or destroyed for scrap medal and many more maybe could with great effort but were never meant to. However, a large number are there only for storage and could be reactivated within a few weeks, others are for sale, some from other nations air forces like the Norwegians who sell their old C130s to anyone online.
5mitch08 8 months ago
why are they exactly there? is it to store planes for when we need it? or are they just outdated?
in that case why not recycle the planes or auction them off.... because this seems like a waste of money because a planes can drop of bombs here and blow up all the air planes because theey are cramed so close to each other
charkee167 8 months ago
@charkee167 If we had enemy aircraft bombing Arizona, dead aircraft storage would be the least of our concerns by that point.
7EMERSON9 8 months ago
@charkee167 Surely they keep any unidentified plane waaaaaaaaaaay far from them...and hit em down if they get too close..
DeepTechs 7 months ago
Why don't they just use the material to make new aircraft/ weaponry?
ChaosDynamics 8 months ago
@ChaosDynamics because technology these days doesnt use those kinds of material, most of the weapons are created from alloys

DO THEY NOT USE THEM FOR SPARE PARTS ETC ?

billytoob 8 months ago
@billytoob Blessed? You are probably one of those "hillbily's" that still thinks America is the best country in the world...lolololololololololololololololololol you've got people that die of hunger, the worst health system in the western hemisfeer, the highest mortality rate among car users, the bigest number of Homicides per capita (only compared with 3rd world countries) and you think that's being blessed??????? what a joke...
pupilos229 8 months ago
@pupilos229 You have no idea what it's like to be an American. It is hands down blessed by God. You don't see us hammering on Portugal, why are you berating America? Why do you waste your time? A little jealous I think.
Our economy is twice the size of the next closest country China and they have 4 times the people we have. We are still "the best"...and always will be...because we are indeed "blessed". Good day...
cchanderson 8 months ago
@cchanderson i dont believe in god...but still i think that America is one of the greatest countrys on this planet however we all forget in the end...were all from planet earth we all share the same faith as the earth and therefore we are equal
TheSmallPin 8 months ago
@pupilos229 i agree that 'blessed' is a too strong word when such a big country as America could do much better. but don't forget every country has got weakness and strength in some things. Americas is just a bit mor visible then others
TheSmallPin 8 months ago
I've been here a few times. Sad to see such fine aircraft being readied for the scrap heap, but people don't realize you can only get so many hours on an airframe. They don't last forever.
