@elephant35e for a train that is absolutely terrible. i pdont think you understand the concepts of basic locomotion. that train is traveling at 65MPH and carying over 60, 20 ton cars each, even the slightes imperfection in the rails is incredibly dangerous. and this is terrible, the damned things lucky not to have snapped a wheel right off
I live in between the canadian national main line that goes into toronto and the canadian pacific main line that goes in to toronto so its pretty busy on both lines and with CN's new SD70M-2'sand ES44DC's and CP's SD90MAC's and their new ES44AC's i'm all set.
It's like what happened in Thomson IL in 2005. Bad ballast between the concrete roadbed and teh concrete sidewalk resulted in bouncing and did lead to a derailment.
It's good to see -- that many containers .. in ONE train movement (as -- how MANY cars .. would be intimidated .. on the highways ... if ALL of those .. went by raod .. on the back of trucks) ..As every one .. would most likely be .. just as a ONE_UP .. on an articulated 18wheeler unit
What "bad crossing"? Do you think it'd be used long if it wasn't capable of the rated speeds/loads of that line? Do you think the crew wouldn't radio it in, were it a problem?
OTOH, there were at least 5 "square wheels" in that train- bad wheel flat spots from brake lock-ups. Given the high wheel-loadings of freight cars, the pounding they give the rails will not benefit the rails.
We had a soft spot on our double main line BNSF crossing, You could really hear the couplers rubbing against each other as the cars jumped about ! Then one day the BNSF crew and a alot of machinery stoped by, cut out the rails and dropped in a pre assembled model RR looking segment, welded the rails and done in a couple of hours ! Really cool to watch
The containers aren't going to fall off. Each top can is secured to the bottom can via 4 IBCs (inner box connectors) made of steel. It's a twist-lock. Thats why all cans have the holes at all 4 corners in the stacking posts. Also secures them to a chassis for highway transport.
I think the engineer noticed that... I'm an engineer myself and i think iv'e been through worse. When the locomotive dives into a set of loose ties and then the suspension bottoms out. WHAM!!! it's odd that nothing breaks....
what a bounce :O

Thank God it wasn't serious condition. But still, somebody should out to call the BNSF crew to check out the condition of the track for replacements.

all of the trains in my town are slow and always carry box cars so it kinda neat to see a train with that kind of load and the speed it was doing
