  • new challenge: chop down a tree with a shotgun

  • Begs the question. Since your not fond of ladders; What about spring eaves trough cleaning ?

  • Lol...love the tree trimming method, easy on the back.

  • Trees prefer getting their braches shot off... "It beats the saws." they say.

  • I keep telling people you are hilarious (you know I'm a fan... I once asked if you wanted an Aussie nephew) and this clip is one of the many reasons why!

    Love your work!

  • lol

  • Beats the hell outa my telescoping tree trimmer that I bought....it stinks living in the city limits....love your vids....

  • I hope you are away from people when you do this, I mean I rolled on the floor laughing it makes for a good exebition shoot, but guns are dangerous tools, I hope that you have enough leadway that you wont hit anyone comming by they can be killed by your tree trimming you know.

  • @manga12, Geez, I didn't realize they were dangerous; maybe that's why my neighbors have all been buckshot. :-)

  • I thought you used birdshot for this? anyway i see you have over 100 yard in your other videos, but from first glance you look like a madmad using ammo to clear trees, like homer on the simpsons joining the nra and using a hand gun for everything to put the lights out chang the channel, get cans down ect.

  • @hickok45 I'm Canadian and I do that too, with the same shotgun at that (if that's the Mossberg 590).

  • @manga12 lol, are you serious?? i guess you haven't watched many of his videos... Hickok lives gun safety, as we all do..

  • not till after the fact that I made the comment, still there are tones of rednecks that do this stuff without reguard for life and limb just to blow stuff up.

  • @manga12 He was probably using birdshot... unless somebody was in the tree there was nothing dangerous about this... the only way guns are dangerous is when ignorant people that know nothing about them like you handles them! ;)

  • dont group me with the other yutzes of youtube, I have handled a shotgun plenty, and can handle 600 grain 3 inch shells just fine, I might not be as involved as hickok but I know that even birdshot can do lots of damage to someone close up, there are some on youtube that are just plain unsafe I wanted to make sure hickok was not one of them.

  • @manga12 I was just going by your comment... looked pretty anti-gun 'yutze' as you call it to me... LOL and 600 grain shells? That is one HELL of a HEAVY round for even a 12 gauge! Thats almost 1.5 ounces! LOL

  • They are the brenneke gold magnums, and they are 1 and 3/8 ounces at 1502 fps they will break an 8 inch cement edging brick in half with one shot, and my dad used one of my slugs to take down a doe that was bigger then two bucks that were with her, ripped the whole top half of the heart it was just gone not ruptured just gone.

and while I am not a large man 5"9' 148 lbs they are just as stout as you can imagine.

they have one for law use that will go though the brick without breaking it.

  • Hickock your sooo lucky to have machine guns pistols and semi auto rifles in Australia were no aloud any of those things only bolt action lever action those kind of guns i wish i had a pistol so bad! :D

  • man... that guy is having some FUN!!

  • lol this is how we clear skeet trees on the farm.

  • you should start a landscaping business. ill be your first customer.

  • thats how americans deal with problems...

    my gosh.....

  • @MrBiffi, Yep, it's really not a problem unless you are unfortunate enough to not have a decent shotgun! :-)

  • @hickok45 LOL!

  • @hickok45 Yea... My country doesn't allow me to have guns

  • @xxweaponsxx123 Isn't communism a bitch? LOL

  • @XHustonProductionsX Nah wel...You can have guns with a gun license. Maximum of 7 guns per household. No fully automatic weapons. To get a gun license you must not have a criminal record. And you need to be in a gun club. And hours of paperwork... and police inspection 3 times a year... and some other shitty rules.

30 years ago it was just the same like in the USA... But then some crazy bitch people started to do some stupid things........

  • @xxweaponsxx123 It was NEVER like that in the US... if our government ever tried to enact some BULLSHIT like that there would be a civil war at least, there is no way that americans would do that! In fact what you just said is a direct violation of our 2nd amendment, though most politicians seem to not care about the bill of rights anymore all I can say is it must suck to live where you do! Maybe move out of China? LOL

  • @XHustonProductionsX LOL why does it suck where I live. Guns are not everything bro... And china wtf?

  • @xxweaponsxx123 I never said guns are everything... but what if cars were illegal? They can mame, kill, cause a LOT of damage... same with firearms COMPLETELY harmless by themselves, just like a vehicle, so why ban them? Well because somebody very stupid made that law and where your at nobody cared and fought it, first they ban the 'dangerous guns' whats next? Maybe the dangerous people should be banned instead? Get my point bro? LOL

  • @XHustonProductionsX Exactly...

  • Someone get this guy a M134 Minigun...

  • oh yes. we cut down a small pine tree with one.

  • theres these things called hands.

  • that was extremely effective

  • hell ya

  • Wouldn't this be fun using handloads with lengths of bath tub chain? :-)

  • I sure wish I were you! Very nice hickok, good review on the sks45 by the way

  • Dude your my hero! guns are like the answer to everything. What gun havnt you shot?

  • Yeah you should try sharpshooting then off. With a rifle or even a pistol. That would be cool.

  • Four Tree's got scared watching this video

  • That was pretty cool, you should try with M1897

  • Man, wish you could see what gun control is like here in NJ, we have the strictest gun laws, yet we have the highest crime rate involving guns, is there some kind of connection?

  • Just sending some presents downrange to Kentucky =)

  • Dear Hickok45, you are what we call, "Badass."

  • i am the lorax i speak for the OH SHIT DONT SHOOT MAN

  • Better not let the greenies see this!!! Those trees have feelings too you know!!!!!!

  • oh yeah, and before someone laughs and says read the owners manual, it didnt come with one.... which i have no idea why you wouldnt receive and instruction booklet even if its very small and simple at the least

  • @hickok45... Thanks Hickok just got home with the 870. i was also wondering if, without looking at the gun, you could tell me how i would go about putting the slide back to a locked position, without shooting the gun (my neighbors may not like me discharging rounds in the backyard)

  • hey hickok, tomorrow im going into gander mountain to pick up a remington 870 marine magnum. ive never owned a shotgun before and i was wondering if you could answer a question for me.

ive heard some people say (not necessarily speaking about specific shotguns) that the quality of the round can cause issues in the ejection of an empty shell, has that ever been a problem for you? if so what kind of rounds did you try shooting to help.... im hoping not to spend 15 dollars for a box of 5 shells..

  • @sk8terfreak33 , I've not really had any trouble with cheap field loads. I buy a lot of the Federal at Walmart in boxes of 100. They work pretty well for tree trimming.

  • @sk8terfreak33 I have a 870 and for plinking and even small game hunting I use remmington sport loads...There$20 for 100 rounds at walmart! 7 1/2 shot

  • Do you recommend a favorite load for this?

  • @tiggerr42431 , Favorite loads are just field loads with 7 1/2 size shot.

  • @hickok45 How 'bout 20 gauge - what load would be most effective? Thank you.

  • @hickok45 Hi, what about a 20 ga. - what load do you think would be most effective? Thanks!

  • awsome Vid HIckok ^^

  • Hahaha! That's really wonderful! Well, what can I say, that sure is one way to make choirs more entertaining, isn't it?

By the way. I noticed you posted two videos where you were talking a bit about your shotguns. How about a video of your revolvers too? I really like the old western 45 caliber colts.

    Lovely.

  • @Srjl . Better look around; I have lots of them.

  • @hickok45 Oh, sweet. Sorry, I just happen to be a tad bit lazy. Thanks!

  • Is there anything you won't shoot at? Great videos and very entertaining.

  • @buhrdt Well, what's the old saying, "When you have a hammer in your hand, everything looks like a nail. "

  • @hickok45 When you have an 870 Express in your hand, every half wit, gun control, tree hugging socialist looks like a zombie too.

  • hey man i love ur vids there fun to watch and u rly know wat ur talkin about and theirs rly only two kinds of vids i would love u to make if u wouldn't mind and there shotgun cleanin and water expansion tests ty

  • looks better already lol x

  • 1st Hickock45 I love your videos but what is that you're using to "trim" branches?

  • @hunterwr69 it says a 12 gauge remington 870.

  • @fear606

sorry I wasn't as specific but I ment what loads he was using

  • @hunterwr69 Oh.

  • Just one word: BEAUTIFUL!

  • and i really thought i was the only one that did this!!!

  • what shot are you useing and do u think a 20 gauge would do the same

  • 20 gauge should work about as well.

  • I'm having trouble seeing through the tears of laughter....LOL....ROFL!!!

    My gut hurts!!!!!!!!!

  • Never gets old.

I could spend my whole day just watching you trimming trees :-D

Hope you will film some more tree trimming action next summer!

  • funny, i just use a cherry bomb and a slingshot.... or some homemade TNT if the cops are distracted on the other side of town.

  • Only in the U.S.A.

  • HAHA! this is great!!!

There are great men and then there is Hickok

  • Wish I could do that where I live. Oh well, a man can dream.

  • Hahaa thats great!

  • i once cut a 4 inch wide limb that was 40 feet up in a pin oak with a ruger 1022.

  • should never shoot a rifle up in the air.

  • Shot gun won't go far. Shooting bullets is another story.

  • @deerslayer25 and why's that?

  • Rifles travel to far and a large bullet maintains more energy than several 100 #6's. My .22 mag ammo says right on the box that it can travel up to 2 miles. It may not be able to kill at that range, but I don't want to get hit by it. and because of this I believe it is irresponsible to fire any rifle without a solid background to stop the bullet.

  • It's a shotgun, not a rifle.

  • my comment was for carpcorr who was shooting a 22

  • Looks like fun :)

  • Its less expensive than the gas and oil used in a chainsaw and much safer than climbing a ladder.

  • plus, you get to practice your aim!

  • i always thought about it, if i saw such a tree

  • that is hilarious!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • works good on ice too!

  • Hickok thanks for the good vids. Any concern with shooting up in the air, or are you really far away from other people? Thanks.

  • if he is using the birdshot shells, it really does not matter how far other poeple are. The pellets lose their energy very quickly.

  • minerdrc is right; they don't go very far; however, I WAS surprised once when I was "trimming" trees over on the other side of the range. My wife said shot was landing on the roof of the house. It had made it farther than I would have guessed.

  • @minerdrc

Pellets my lose their energy in regards to lethality, but they still hurt. I've been pelted Dove hunting from shooters 75+ yards away. Depending on the angle, the shot can travel quite a distance. While I was not hurt, a pellet to the eye could be very damaging and the pellets themselves still had some heat when they went down my shirt. With firearms, muzzle awareness and what's behind your target is important, with any caliber or type of gun.

  • Well, my neighbors do complain occasionally about the lead pellets landing in their beer mugs as they sit out on their decks! :-)

  • Why is there pellets in my beer .LOL

  • quicker, easier, safer than climbing on a ladder with a saw

  • "beats the heck outta pulling out ladders..." you can say THAT again! HAHHAHA :D I always wondered why when I went to Ducktown there the people are kinda shotgun happy if you walk on their yard...I thought it was just me! But, hey, if I could, I'd do that too! Thanks again!

  • That was beautiful. Awesome video. Sure does beat the pole saw and ladder. Jet over and out

  • wow thats impressive...

  • thats how we trim trees down here in kentucky aint that right hickok

  • what, no ladder?

  • What type of shells do you use?

  • we cant trim like that here in california....luckyyyy

  • Thanks for the video! I used this method to save a powerline from an ice covered tree a few years ago but forgot about doing this. I am VERY glad I checked the channel today because I was about 45 min from getting on a roof and latter to back up some tree limbs from the house. Thanks to you a 2 hour job turned into 5 min of productive fun.

  • Know what you mean. We had a severe ice storm here in '94, and I used the old 12 gauge to clear the trees off our electric line running to the house. It was quite a surgical endeavor making sure I didn't shoot the wire in two.

  • ha i was born during that february ice storm....

  • Yeah... I took the long way around, I played it safe and shot pretty far from the line, took FOREVER but I didnt hit the line. Great shooting with the 19 btw. Do you do much skeet or sporting clays?

  • I hope I had a farm like you... I would be shooting all day..

  • that was sweet.

  • I wish I could de-clutter my office this way.

  • @OutbackWP yeah you, and about 2 million other people, lol

  • Great video! I think all libs should have to watch this to see the usefulness of guns around the farm! :)

  • Actually, since most shooting of expensive ammo is strictly recreation, accomplishing a needed task while shooting expensive ammo is just the opposite! The most practical shooting one could do!

  • Much more fun than using a saw or pruning hook on a pole.

  • "Thats Right" cut them bushes!!

  • i thought this video was going to have some kind of saw involved. great video!!

  • Using the Mossberg, what is the one-shot drop percentage on tree limbs? LOL

  • Well, I must confess that I just about got a one-shot drop on MYSELF once. I was standing directly under a fair-sized limb and shot it off cleanly with the first shot, right at the trunk. The laws of physics (gravity!) kicked in pretty fast, and the limb popped me right on the head before I could even think about moving.

  • We use the saw.

  • So do I; mine's just a different shape and has Remington or Benelli on the side. :-)

  • You would not do this with a fruit tree though, would you? The lead would get into the fruits!?

BTW I envy you americans, all I can buy without any administration and testing (and can shoot anywhere) is airgun. Everything else needs gun ownership permit. However they do not mind me buying hunting bow or crossbow, big killer blade or so.

  • Nice but I think i would go broke if i dont get out the latter lol

  • What load was it, sir? You make America proud and strong. Hey European, UN, and the rest of the enslaved world, F with us and we'll send a million Hickok to kick your ass back to the stone age.

  • Field loads of # 7 1/2 shot seem to work well! Speaking of the "enslaved world," you reckon they trim trees this way in California or New Jersey? :-)

  • I have used my Mossberg 500 with the same loads to get an unsafe treestand out of a tree on my property. Great minds think alike!

  • that one was for m1accorder

  • Get your degree in landscape architecture today at your local tactical defense school!

  • That was awesome!!!

  • Loving it! Shoot more stuff hickok45. I want to see you cut your grass.

  • For cutting grass, I've discovered that a full-auto MP-5 held horizontally works best. Ammo is a problem these days, however! :-)

  • lol that was neat im gonna share this vid with some people.

  • Nice one hicock, that freaking rocks.

  • Ha Ha! Greatest redneck tree trimming video I've ever seen. Super.

  • i dont think this is the redneck way, the American way maby, but not rednecks

  • How do rednecks do it? Almost afraid to know...

  • Hicock called it redneck tree trimming himself in an earlier video

  • they tie machettes to strings and swing them around a beer bottle

  • Boy... we don't drink beer outta a bottle! ;)

  • heheheheehe:)

  • Nice

  • lol

  • haha this is awesome. Thank you for this!

  • You need to come to my house lol. Thanks.

  • haha that was awesome, im thinking of getting a 12 gauge pump here soon, which do you think is the better gun a remington 870 or winchester 1300 defender?
