My favourite Torch lighting ceremonies are the Sydney 200, Turin 2006 and Beijing 2008 olympic game. Hope London 2012 cant beat these and I want anyone except David Deckham to light the flame.
My favourite Torch lighting ceremonies from Summer:- Barcelona 1992, Muhammad Ali 1996, Cathy Freeman 2000, Athens 2004.
Winter - Nagano 1998, Salt Lake City 2002.
Predictions for London 2012 - think David Beckham might light it as he is very famous around the world. The cauldron is hidden so I don't know what they would do with it!!!
ATHENS 2004: Nikolaos Kaklamanakis (windsurfing) TORINO 2006: Stefania Belmondo (ski) BEIJING 2008: Li Ning (gymnastic) VANCOUVER 2010: Catriona Le May Doan (speed skating. She also ligthed the cauldron in the Closing Ceremony due to the malfunction in the Opening), Steve Nash (basketball), Nancy Greene (ski) Wayne Gretzky (Ice hockey. He also lighted the external cauldron)
ALBERTVILLE 92: Michel Platini (soccer), Francoise Cyrille Grange (junior alpine ski) BARCELONA 92: Antonio Rebollo (paralympic archer) LILLEHAMMER 94: Stein Grubber (ski jumping) Haakon Magnus (Noway prince, first royal member ever to light an Olympic cauldron) ATLANTA 96: Cassius Clay or Mohamed Ali (boxing) NAGANO 98: Midori Ito (figure skating) SYDNEY 2000: Kathy Freeman (sprinter) SALT LAKE 2002: Mike Eruzione and 1980 Ice Hockey team (miracle on ice)
MEXICO 68: Enriqueta Basilio, first woman ever to light an Olympic cauldron. MUNICH 72: Gunter Zhan INNSBRUCK 76: Christ Haas, Josph Feistmantl MONTREAL 76: Stephane Prefontane, Sandra Henderson (love couple at that time) MOSCOW 80: Sergei Belov (basketball) SARAJEVO 84: Sandra Duvravic (speed skating) LA 84: Raffer Jhonson (Decathlon) CALGARY 88: Robbin Perry (junior figure skating) SEOUL 88: Chung Su Man, Kim Wontak, Sohn Mi-Chung
BARCELONA '92, BEST EVER!!! TORINO 2006: Copied what Athens Paralympics Games did. VANCOUVER 2010: Epic fail!!! SYDNEY 2000: Spectacular!! ATHENS 2004: Original BEIJING 2008: Lavish! but copied what Athens Olympics did (previously the torch entered the stadium) SEOUL '88: Burnt doves!! LILLEHAMMER '94: Elegant! NAGANO ’98: Boring! ALBERTVILLE ’92: Tiny tiny torch!!
<3 I love how it was done in Sydney!!!
