  • Hey. That's me.

I actually just started a new site about plastic bag crafts.

I'm traveling to India this summer to teach plastic bag crochet workshops there. You can find more info about that that on my site as well.

  • i have a plastic bag bag (: its so cute <3 .

  • You go, girl! I am a school teacher, always teaching my kids about recycling. We will try this in class!

  • we have used this brillian video and shared it on our facebook page make australia a plastic bag free zone well done Cristen.......love your work!!

  • Cristen ur awesome.

  • I love crocheting with plarn... I made a purse and I love it... like she said, it's durable and you are using up old plastic bags... I'm planning on making my mom some grocery bags so we don't get as many coming in :)

  • The "uninformed" person who made the comment, 'just put it in the garbage" doesn't have a clue as to WHY

  • To reduce the amount of plastic bags in the environment, do like me: make yourself bags out of organza to weigh your produce. It's very sturdy, it's semi-transparent and it weighs less than 10 grams per bag. I hardly use any plastic bags anymore and there are only about five in my house that's all.

  • @Khamomil attitude fail

  • I'm crafty and I love free stuff. If anyone would like to join Lockerz it's free and cool and it's invite only so msg me if you want an invite.

  • You can apparently knit with it as well. I"ve yet to try it though.

  • I've tried it, it's a lot more difficult than crocheting with it.

  • what is a crotchet????

  • Very good use of plastic bags. Good for you...

  • Hola

  • I am new to you tube, is there a way we can save this to our computer so we have it when ever we want to watch and make it. thanks and amazing idea

  • Yeah, you can save the video, just add it to your favorites..You can see the word favoriteso just push it and it will be in your account ;)

  • Right at the top under the video, where you see the stars right under that just click where it says favorite, and it will save it to your page, and you can get to them from there.

  • if you download and use Firefox to surf the web, It's free and in my opinion better than safari or internet explorer.... Once you have Firefox you can install an app. called "1click youtube video downloader" then you can save the entire video onto your hard drive.

  • you can add it to ur favorites

  • If you want to download it and view it without connecting to the internet, you need to get a program called youtube downloader, just google it ;)

  • @HarleyRidingNurses

hey so all you have to do is click the favorite button under the video if you have an acount, or just save the while link under your favorites tab found typicaly under the page back or page forward button on the the interenet browser you use. :)

  • SOOOOO hackin awesome. Why go out and buy expensive yarn when you can make things out of plastic bags? Kudos to you! 8o)

  • Cool idea! I crotchet with yarn..

  • Hey this so cool! I'm very impressed! and I'm totally doing this for Christmas gifts!

  • Hi. Nice job. I make adult fashion handbags in a similar way with shopping bags. I have a video up if you want to see. Think Green!

  • Hi, I wanna talk with Cristen Andrews. Is that possible? thanxs

  • Well done. I wish you well with this. I am inspired to do something just like this.

What size hook do you use?

  • Suxx !! plastic hats ur will suficate ya head

  • This girl deserves and environmental award. Has anyone shard this with an environmental organization? I have crocheted for years and this is an amazing idea. I thought they would be really stiff but they are not uncomfrotable.(the hats and they are waterproof.)

Everyone talks about how bad teens are nowadays, well Done Bravo

  • Bonjour, I really LOVE your channel. I've subscribed and added you as a 'Top Friend'.

If you subscribe to my channel too, you can download and print out my puppet friends and I for FREE !?! - Tinklebottom

  • I will def. try this out the next time I go shopping...I usually end up trashin the plastic bags. Thanks for sharing this!

  • That is awsome I seen this before but I have yet to try it. And I seen where you can use old vhs tapes to crochet to. I do crochet and loom knit so I will have to try this some day. You know these bags would be great for beach bags so if they get wet no matter they plastic!!Thanks girly god bless

  • That is so awesome! What a great way to recycle!

  • wow that girl has talent

  • I haven't checked out beginner crochet vids yet, just haven't had much time

  • that guy talking over her is annoying

  • Like the idea but got completely stuck 'after the chain bit' as I can't crochet. Not sure 'how to make it go up' as she sad.

  • As you start doing going through each loop one at a time it goes up.

  • This probably isn't the right video to learn on, but there are lots of crochet tutorials here on youtube. Once you've got the basics, you can apply it to anytthing. Check out tjw1963. hth! x

  • Yes, I will have a look. Those patterns scare me though, look complicated. I find that crochet yarn is expensive so I like the plastic idea.

  • Don't be scared! Just start with the basics and take it one stitch at a time. You can get acrylic yarn for cheap, I know what you mean though, why spend money when you have plastic bags around the house already?! Good luck :)

  • Go check out the Salvation Army store or other charity shops near you. They are the only places I buy my yarn. I get a bagful for 3 dollars. I gotten enough of the same yarn to knit and crochet socks, gloves etc. My last bargain was black silk 20 skeins!

  • did you check out the beginner crochet lessons on youtube there are some really good ones.

  • she's hot

  • I just tried it and the key is to make sure you cut the strips wide enough so that they really have some strength for when you hook them together. I'm wondering if I should add fishing line to this so that it will make the bags practically indestructible... I will totally use the fishing line to reinforce the edges and in the handles... This is fun...

  • Great way to exploit this whole brainwashing, Orwellian group-think "Green Movement"! I save all my plastic grocery bags and use them for MANY MANY things but I never thought to try and Crochet with them! Too bad 99% of my bags are white... I'll have to try and figure out something to do with them. I can't wait to see if I can make a purse out of them... I'm new at this craft so I would be lucky to be able to make a chain stitch with them... LOL Great way to scam cash off the New'Agers!

  • How creative! I liked it :-)

  • Very cool! I like to make rugs out of plastic bags. I also crochet them. It actually kinda soft when you walk of them! You would think it would be kinda hard and pokey. But it's very nice! A great craft for crocheters.

  • At home we always save the bags we us from grocery shopping and they are much more useful than I thought. I am going to try this.

  • I made a pencil case for school :)

  • Awesome Idea!!

  • Awesome video! That girl is awesome at crocheting!

  • Great Idea!

  • I too am not a crocheter but I do use yarn for other art and craft projects. I will try and use plastic bag in place of yarn. Thanks for the great idea and the very useful video.

  • thank you! i love it....

  • I've sold these bags in my hometown made from different kinds of plastic . i made one out of vhs tape but i dont recommend it. lol

  • dats so kewl :)

  • Excellent I am inspired to get out my crochet hooks, which I have not done for sometime! Thank you!

  • Awesome! I have a billion plastic bags. I usually just recycle them at Wal Mart or something, but this is a cool idea!

  • Please check out our blog on plastic bags at

    bagwithcare(DOT)blogspot(DOT)com

  • I'm sorry, but you're just as bad of a spammer as those turds advertising porn!

  • My grandma used to make baskets and stuff out of plastic bags just like this. It's a really great way to make use of what would otherwise be garbage. Thanks for the demo, I've always wondered exactly how she did it.

  • those commentators are pretty annoying

  • I am so impressed. Great job.

  • Very Very talented young lady......

  • I just love people that cant keep their pie hole shut so the sweet child can show her craft......

  • Do you think you could use a loom with the bags?

  • that's actually a good idea. i don't see why it wouldn't be possible. i can't crochet yet, but i can loom. i just might give it a shot!

  • very cool :)

  • Thanks for posting this! The part where she describes how to make the "yarn" out of the bags will is especially useful. I've got a pattern I've been wanting to try with this stuff.

  • wow.. i have officially seen it all.. lolz

  • You're amazing, God Bless You, we need more people like you in the world trying to use things usfully to save our planet. You're a brite shining brilliance and I'm so glad I discovered your video.

I know I'll see you on TV some day for making something else brilliant. Keep those great ideas coming.

  • somebody should macrame his balls, what a boob

  • he he

  • holy wow thats a great idea!! thank you !!

  • wow!great!you're so creative!well,keep it up!

  • I really like make magazine! I think this is going to be a new trend to do things by your self.

  • Wouldn't it be easier to use old VHS tape instead of all them bags, as ever stretch a cassette or VHS tape ? It basically turns into a thin plastic rope.

  • you should try that out, I'd be interested to see the difference between the two- like if one is more water proof or something :)

  • Well, since both are basically a plastic, they would both be water proof, with the main difference in the color.

I noticed that when stretched, both VHS & cassette tape will not only stretch out, but start to curl in upon itself, forming a circular rope like appearance.

The trouble is, everything you make out of it would be one color.

  • pretty smart. wow! i never even thought about that. that is so cool. =)very neat also it helps recycle. =)smart girl. =) whatever works and help the enviornment right??? =)

  • Love this video and I am a little perplexed about the mean commentaries of people. Mean people or plain dum?

  • Hmm interesting?...i wonder what her panties and bra is made out of??

  • i stole all them. So unless i missed something in her trash then she wears nothing.

  • yor nipple's showing

  • i hope you get cancer and die painfully.

  • your mean loser!

    shes recycling!

  • LMAO

  • your an idiot who said it just affects marine life? it does look hippy crap, and plastic does decompose..but how long does it take???? where are they stored meanwhile??? landfills that's where they end up until they decompose..now how does that affect us???..what if instead of wasting all the space and all the resources and pollutants needed to store those bags until they decompose we simple re-use them.. or not use them at all. there are many alternatives so STFU you gullible idiot

  • good work /clap

  • thats too fucking hard for me but it looks nice

  • GREAT IDEA!!!!! Just brilliant! you should patent your idea and start selling your own plastic bag crocheting kits. you should be very proud...

  • hey Cristen your nipple is showing through your shirt

  • stupid... but true!!

  • brilliant idea. I love the fact that it is washable too. Ignore all the negative comments.

    good job!

  • Excellent use of plastic...am definitely going to try this...

  • I ask to them please, qie clickeen in INSPIRATIONMAGNUS and sees my video hope *Esperanza*

  • nei

  • niet.

  • the girl is creative, the lady is annoying, from beginning to end. Stop pestering the girl, and watch how to do it! "what you cant use the handel?" "oh i never learned how!" "bags . bags?" shhhh, and watch

  • lol yea and that guy was like "is it basically like crocheting?" and "its esentialy macromet(idk how to spell it) on two dimensions".that girls prbly like WTF is wrong with u people SHUT UP

  • True, crocheting is time-consuming and often painful. Crocheting can often cause calluses on fingers. I suppose it is more practical for using up old plastic bags than to actually save the world. This is more economically friendly than the other plastic bag-related Make item, which was melting old trash bags and stitching messenger bag. When you melt plastic, it stiffens it and releases toxic fumes but yet it was more popular than this Make item.

  • By the time your done with that 400 million more plastic bags will be thrown away.

  • you know...if earth was a barren(idc if thats wrong) wasteland...WE WOULDNT BE HERE!
