this is sooo true!! And then, Zoe has a management behind her. We're doing all the bookings ourselves too. Only seeing our friends when they come to a gig also sucks. Having to drive, to repair the car and bus to be able to drive. Zoe had some money from her tech job to record her cd. If you don't have that, you'll never make enough money with gigging to record a cd, and exactly for that reason our Freewheeler band still hasn't one. Sleeping at festival terrains also is pretty hard...
My 16YO son is starting a band- I’ve heard them rehearsing & they sound amazing!
However, I was disgusted to learn they are calling themselves ‘MURDERBAND’ & all wearing facemasks of Peter Sutcliffe, Jeffrey Dahmer, Ian Huntley, John Wayne Gacy, Fred West & others. Worse- he’s going to offer free tickets to victims’ families as a PR stunt.
He reckons it will all be a popular gimmick, but I’m trying to persuade him it would be a tasteless, horrible mistake…
@SuperTruth77 Sounds awesome and the initial gimmick will probably work but can't see the concept of "MURDERBAND" working out longterm UNLESS they do something different & 'outside of the box'.
I'm sure that even with free tickets, people are not going to travel from their home towns to see a sixteen-year old's band play while insulting their dead relatives.
I must assume, that when you like music, and believe on what you do, being able to project yourself to an audience (and earning some money with that) might be just great.. when you are studying music academically, and spend the whole day learning and eventually making some music, you are not happy because you cannot project what you are.. there are not better life conditions.. each one has its own difficulties, and you just have to learn how to deal with that
Great Job Zoey!! I heard from Twitter you were a little nervous about speaking in front of large groups. I agree. BUT you did a fantastic job!! Thanks for sharing your insight!
What I'd like to know is: how popular do you need to be to make a living at it? By 'living' I mean netting (at least) $500 a week.

It's true... Waffle House or if you're really lucky, Cracker Barrel. I always bring a stash of dried fruits and nuts cause I hate fast food.

Wouldn't mind the free alcohol :) But yeah the band life is a commitment, not a free ride ^_^ Unless you're Hendrix.
Oh, also a fan of Zoe Keating ^_^
