  • What is that ? Both sound like an electronic alarm, and SLOW. Is this NewYork STYLE LOOOOOLLLLLLLL

  • bad mic or not, he STILL sounds amazing :-)!

  • I've heard that so much lately watching LSO and Sydney masterclass videos. What are they playing? haha

  • @rhapsodyno1 it's the first movement of the mozart oboe quartet.

  • The sound quality in this video isn't good enough to making judgments about this tone versus that. I really can't hear what they sound like with that much distortion from the mic. Just sayin...

  • Nice playing from both of them, but for a Mozart piece, the staccato should have been much shorter, and both their postures look lazy...

  • @zran4oto and heinz holliger sounds like a mosquito

  • I wonder how well Mr. Wang can improvise?? Symphony musicians in America don't have nearly the credibility the jazz ones do.

  • @eet73 You clearly are not mature enough as a musician to understand that professional musicians should know how to play ALL styles of music.

  • Hi I think the color we have the right level but I think that there staccato playing in momentum in this part that's playing SP Liang Wang no misunderstanding

  • QUANTE PIPPE....

  • liang wang is awesome

  • I love his tone. It's beautiful.

  • liang kicks ass

  • Does anyone notice how unsteady/inaccurate Wang Liang's rhythm is? You literally cannot put a metronome to it.

It's amazing how many musicians cannot play steadily without a steady accompaniment.

  • It is a thing called "rubato". Look it up in a dictionary.

  • Rubato doesn't mean that you play 2 beats while there are 2.5 beats written in. I would love to hear you play with your brand of rubato.

  • well i may not know much but a solo would be extremely boring with a steady beat... if the solo u r playing is by urself without any accompaniment then ur supposed to have freedom of time...

  • caper7oo, I totally respect your opinion. By the way, this piece has a string trio as accompaniment, so one will need to play in time or else the ensemble will be broken. I have performed this piece a few times by the way.

  • oh i am srry then. i didnt know... i dont play oboe i play bassoon btw.

  • Every good musician knows that you have to have a good concept of the tempo, and on the other hand, every MUSICAL musician has a tasteful idea of what rubato is. Honestly, Liang Wang's rubato is very slight, and very tasteful. He is one of the most musical, talented oboe players of our time, and even if a soloist used more rubato, any good string trio would know how to follow the soloist, or know when the soloist is following them. No interpretation is wrong, just different.

  • What song is tessa playing?

  • Mozart: Quartet in F major for Oboe and Strings, mvt. 1-Allegro

  • Comment removed

  • um, its definitely the first movement.

  • please

what is my oboe model ?il has 4 metal keys for the left little finger...( 5 on most oboes fotos). 3 keys for the right little finger..right hands rings looks like clarinet- left keys look like oboe.. it has a octave key -can i play a 3rd space C with a flute fingering?

    i play flute-sax- clarinet

    i am mixing fingerings...

    thank you ;)

  • I like his unique tone.

  • kool

  • Liang Wang brings a new edge to oboe playing, ill defiantly put Manhattan School on my map for colleges just for this guy!

  • A teacher's job is to motivate and inspire, and he doesn't do that. He may be a good player, but he is not a good teacher. Find another, Tessa ! : )

  • I really hope you are not judging his teaching ability from a video that is less than 3 minutes long.

  • His playing doesnt motivate or inspire you? It sure motivates me to practice and get better!

  • You can't say who hsa a better tone or not especially since there is a huge difference in reed making between USA and Europe. I for myself don't like his tone very much but again this is my own taste and I am used to a different tone here in Europe. Tessa played it too slow. The pice didn't swing enough. Also Mozart never used such a long staccato. The non-legato notes should always be a little shorter...between staccato and portato.

  • Personally Liang Wang is my favorite. yes tessa has a nice sound and a good tone but overall its about the spirit of the music. Tessa doesn't have that.

  • It look like he is playing on rosewood which will have a brighter sound...

  • He plays on a rosewood A. Läubin oboe.

  • what are you talking about? rosewoods are notorious for their dark muffled sound, which leads their players towards a lighter reed.

but laubin oboes are the best in the world so either rose or grenadilla would be fine

  • let me say one thing. laubin oboes are not even close to the best in the world. THE best is up for dispute, but by no means are laubins even close.

  • The best oboes in the world will depend on the person, since every one has different tastes. Lorees and Laubins are usually thought as the best. I personally like laubins better because they have a very sweet tone with a wonderful feel of easiness to play and hear. I also think that Laubin oboes are more consistent than loree since they are hand made with great care and Lorees are not; however, i have played an a few Lorees I really like aswell.

  • let me say one thing. laubin oboes are not even close to the best in the world. THE best is up for dispute, but by no means are laubins even close.

  • ... Rosewood are brighter

    and Grenadilla are darker

  • Actually, that is a MISCONCEPTION...Grenadilla is generally edgier with more projection, but it is NOT darker. I have violetwood Loree which has a very dark, lush tone. After buying it and playing grenadilla, the violetwood (a genus of rosewood) has a much richer, lush and darker sound. I also have a grenadilla Loree, but rarely play it anymore.

  • no lyricism... that is correct. No passion and a rough sound

  • and guess who's the principal player in some many philharmonics and even ballets? not tessa, my friend.

  • @musicalmarion I think when he said "tempo" he didn't really mean 'tempo" (sort of a language barrier thing, his English seems a tad shaky) I think he meant that he thought it should be more bright and showy, not necessarily faster, per se.

  • Wow Liang wang's face looks soooo funny when he plays.. but then.. what I hear is what matters.. GOOD JOB

  • he is a sensitive musician, but when I hear him, comparing to Heinz Holliger for instance, there's a huge difference

  • Well Buddy Heinz Holliger isnt the ONLY or THE BEST. Open you ears Jackass

  • I never said he's the only one, but if you'll find someone better then him, I wanna hear it.

Also, I said that he's not an oboe player of the HIGHEST standart.

He's sounds dead comparing also with Albrecht Meyer and some other orchestral players.

    You jackass, jackass!

  • he*

  • Well we've seen by your comments who's the idiot here

  • You?

  • he*

  • She plays it too slowly. But she has a wonderful tone. Like, almost as good as his. Lol.

  • he's aint good

  • You Aint Good

  • and you hear like shit

  • You don't me, and don't know what are you talking about.

    Got it, you failure?

  • Hahaha loofascraper. Your pathetic. hahaha argueing with everyone. your sooo immature. sorry Loofag I like to compliment people with comments not diss other viewers.
