@TheSilkyjohnson14 Its just a utube name, doesnt refer to me, instead of using a name like treebing84 or something like that, not sure how many of my 500 vids you have seen but I think I have over 30 of them, check my playlist
Drop the teeth in the rear sprocket so you don't have to short shift so much and so first gear isn't obsolete. I would kill for that bike. Got my firstvcr500 when I was 15 . You will never be happy on anything else ever again.
@groutaone alright thats what i was kinda of figuring but thank you for helping me keep doing what your doing. ill upload videos of my build when i get the money together
Hey Groutaone, I bought a 3 wheeler a few days ago and the front tire has ice screws in it, but they're all worn down and doesn't really help. and I'd like to be able to ride on the road without worrying about working them into the tire. So I'm wondering is it ok to take them out of the tire?
@groutaone i watched all of your vids on when you were building this bike and i also subbed to your channel but do you think it would have been easier to use a 450r frame other than the 250 cause i keep watchin these videos over and over again and its really settling in that im gonna do the same conversion myself cause it looks like way to much fun lol
@groutaone Thanks! When I was in the rebuilding stage and needed a little motivation, i'd check out your video where you're "tending the land" spraying dirt and weeds all over the place. My KX is no where NEAR as clean as your CR... but thats why its still fun. Doesnt matter, we're both having a blast on big 2 strokes! take care
@Brawling2010 I gave that some thought, I saw a few pictures of these tires mounted backwards and decided to do it this way to create a forward facing V shape with the screw pattern. Ask the guys that know how to pick a sled track, thats how they do it
It's a shame that ice wasn't thinner, this video wouldve been much more exciting.
By the way if you have enough time to film the differences between fourth and fifth gear tracks, you have enough time to tighten all the screws so that a flat edge s facing forwards.
Sir!-Your so cool. Im on the left Coast in Good Ol USA-No ice-No snow riding were im from.
Your 500 reminds me of a Husky 390 that I sported 20+ yrs ago.All metal-two shocker boat anchor --would pull the front off any gear! any speed. Now Im Old- my YZ is like riding my couch LOL.Keep im coming
@gurkensalat0815 On dirt it would be awesome but I dont want to dull the screws so I keep it just for ice, on snow if it cant touch the ground its nothing special
Wow, that's impressive. The tires on my truck are drilled for screws and now your video makes me want to try putting some screws in and seeing what it can do. I don't very often have ice to drive on though.
yep...winter tires on cars have to be the same on all four corners or else it throws the balance off. so a bike is prob the same way....but wow....what traction...
Nice! Reminds me of a very old video (30 years maybe) involving circle track ice racing. One rider fell off of his bike and the whole pack was coming towards him. He crawled to safety just in the nick of time, barely escaping the gnashing of spikes headed his way. Later, they timed the distance he crawled and declared it a world record.
@cashstore1 It would be the hardness of the screws to resist wear.Tensile strength would be how much it can resist being stretched before it breaks. The way the screws are all black it looks like they're probably high carbon steel so they're probably damn hard.
@cashstore1 I think they are hardened steel but what makes them wear fast is hard spinning and frozen dirt, this abuse they are not getting so they should last a while
So as long as i can compare from viewing the videos the new ice tire gives much more traction while the front is now seems to have the problem.. So the solution is simple ice tire and to the front with screws in it and you ready to go.. Intresting experiment Groutaone great job!!
Very awesome Groutaone. I love the 500cr/af you built. I recently had a suzuki rm and always wanted to ice ride. Ill have to get another one and maybe make my own studs out of some harded steel ram set nails. Do these studs hold up for a long period of time or rip out?
The sound of a CR500 gets my blood pumping, I recently modded a 02 blaster frame with a kx 250 engine can't wait to hit some ice with it, check out snow mobile trails.com for a nice tire setup for ice. If you don't mix your gas then you're not hauling ass.
@motocrozz8 Yes the only drawback though is then not all the screws would be turned in all the way, its zero spin now so I'am not sure what would improve

@Blackout9550 Sorry I misread your question, not sure on wear yet as I havent run it much, but I think as long as it doesnt spin it will last a long time, those screws dont like hard spinning it seems
@bonzo9303204406 I think you are right, that way I could put more screws in and make any pattern I want, also liners are available for the inside of the tire so longer screws could still be used
@groutaone yeah .. and there is tire sealants for spraying the inside of the tire ... that will protect the thinner street tire from leaking air and going flat from the screws
@edzgarage well frozen dirt is pretty tough too ... the ice is more fragile like glass ... and dirt is like rock when it is frozen ... i'm not good in explanations but you should understand me right ?
@edzgarage I lost a bunch of front screws off the very side of the front tire, they are shorter and I screwed a lot of them in the same hole as last year, need an ice front tire to make this work

You did "wrong" with the screws in my opinion.
the more screws you have the less pressure you will have on each one.
So the less grip you will have on each one.
Look the ice tires on race cars.
very thin tires and sharp screws, not flat, to have the best pressure surface ratio.
remove the half would be better i think.
