Yeah, it's supposed to be getting darker, which heightens the suspense of the scene. Sometimes, seeing things in perfect clarity is not the aim of a film.
While I do agree that the blue tint that happened in the recent version of Empire needed to be fixed, I also agree with others in that the image now seems a bit too bright and sunny. Would it be possible to bring down some of those whites a bit?
I understand that the blue filter was a recent addition not in the original, but it improves the film's look no end. Removing it is a step backwards.
It's like the removal of the spinning shot of the Falcon jumping into hyperspace, or the static shot of the new TIEs added to the end of A New Hope Revisited.
Adywan's a good technical guy, and many of his changes are interesting, but he's certainly no director.
It now looks too black and white because in his effort to get rid of the blue, the image became desaturated. I would add more of the blue back in. The other enhancements are great but at least start fading the blue back in sequentially as it becomes later and later in the scene.
whilst I applaud the efforts made to clean up the original image I have to say this is going to far, Irvin kershner added a blue tint to give the film atmosphere and emotion. one of the things that always stuck in my mind as a kid were the beautiful colours of this film, the blues of hoth and oranges of bespin
I think the reson why it looks blue is because it's suppose to look like it's getting darker. Han Solo mentions this before he sets out to rescue Luke. So the fact that Adywan is making it all look lighter makes no sense.. please. Change it back or make it look darker in some other way. !!
According to the commentary on ep 4, the film aged poorly, and took on that sickly shade of blue. While true, it sounds like a cheap excuse, considering how much Adywan's version looks better. He's just a guy with a computer!
I LOVE THE REVISITED VERSION! So much better than the original "blue version".
Ady Wan, why did you not reverse the image of Luke lying passed out in the snow, right before Obi-Wan's Spirit appears? In that shot his blaster holster is on his left side, when it should have been on his right side.
'Ihope he replaces the Tauntaun scenes, they have dated badly- especially at 3:20"...Wow, I couldnt disagree with you MORE on this...that's one of my fave shots in the film, actually, the dramatic 'dissolve' from Ben to a shot of rescue approaching...brilliant stuff, and the Tauntaun looks GREAT, jogging toward the camera...sorry, you're WAY off on this one!...;)
THIS IS NOT A FAKE! , THIS IS REAL AND AWESOME!!!!!! :D

@WastedPo Adywan has said it looks much whiter in his version here than it actually is.

Personally the scenes on Hoth should be blue because Hoth orbits a blue star.

does the 1995 thx version have blue tint cause i never notice just on 2004
BobDylanFan1966 2 years ago
@BobDylanFan1966 No, only the 2004 version was screwed up. The 1995 THX version is the same transfer that was used for the original version on dvd.
Someone else uploaded this same clip from that dvd on youtube.

I hope he replaces the Tauntaun scenes, they have dated badly - especially at 3:20.

@darrellkaiser1985 but the 1997 version beats allbut i guess i have t see what adywan will do this time
BobDylanFan1966 1 year ago
@darrellkaiser1985 Actually snow looks kinda blueish, especially in dark. Adywan's version looks like it is midday, which is bad.

@darrellkaiser1985 And yet ironically, he still can't make luke's lightsaber fucking blue in ANH
