I was hearing this when I was on shrooms for the second time!! I've promised myself to wait until the next trip before I start to listen it in daily life, but this song I just needed to hear again, to be reminded of the trip and because this song is just utterly beautiful, gifts by God, one of the world wonders of music
every time i come here i always see two types of comments. Either "i listen to this when i was on [insert drug] " or "i was hearing this when[painful experience"]" originality here is amazing. i was listening to this when i ripped my own eyes out from the comments ... (still a good song)
Seriously people this song is about shooting up with heroin. Just listen to the lyrics. "just a little pinprick." "your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying" "I have become comfortably numb."
According to a Rolling Stone interview, the inspiration was a doctor irresponsibly loading Roger Waters up with (medicinal) drugs before a show. Waters could hardly move for the two hours he was on stage, and it made a big impression on him.
your all wrong this song is about insulin. when he was a child he had a fever that caused his hands and face to swell .. so the doctors injected him with insulin to keep the swelling down and reduce pain ...
this song is about when there guitarist (cant remeber his name bad at names) was injected by tranquilizer by a "doctor" to help him deal with hepitituas one something like that. he had to play the whole show while barely being able to lift his arm. the doctor was a sleazy doctor of course. in fact the whole album the wall is dedicated to the guitarist. menat to be listen to in a row and it is a story
this song is one he wrote while on drugs, and its mostly about how his father beat him as a child, and his feelings of being on something like heroine or meth and loving the numb feeling it gave him and he became Comfortably Numb
Many people think that Comfortably Numb is just popular and the really best songs of Pink Floyd are songs like SOYCD, Interstellar Overdrive and stuff like that. But what they fail to consider is the amazing peace like feeling it induces when it is full of violence (come on, the song is about drugs, distorted childhood and mental disorders). That the sheer awesomeness that Floyd is...... And its reflected most in this song.
You'd think that this would be a song you could fall asleep to because it's so beautiful and soothing, but because it's so awesome, you can't sleep but just listen.
i love how when introducing this song to two friends who hadn't heard of it or pink Floyd they both instantly said the same thing. "makes you feel so chilled and melty" yes... yes it does
@gunguy9mm HAHAHAHHAAH that made my day xD I should so do that lol, whats hilarious is that i can so picture someone giving blood at the same time to hearing this song hahaha xD
@blaflz lol give me a break, apart from not hearing this song since the other day i do actually have pretty good tastes. I've been a fan of pink floyd for a while
@Mrsteddyz I couldn't agree more. So much of todays music beats you over the head. This music and much of older music gets into your head and often tells meaningful stories.
It is about a drug. Sorry to tell you, but it is. It's about when Roger Waters had to perform (while the concept for The Wall was being made) while on tranquilizers. You can look it up, it's all fact. It's about tranquilizers.
@Lockstep290 While I knew from just the song it was about an opiate of some kind. I feel like it does not matter, the song can be about a good deal of drugs not just tranqs. I felt a comfortable euphoria on LSD and this song takes me back to the great feelings I had on that. All the same amazing song a classic piece that will be enjoyed by minds both young and old for many years to come.
@blaflz um? no it's not at all actually, david never struggled with drug problems, and syd , the original singer (R.I.P.) couldn't continue to tour with floyd because he took too much acid and literally fried his brain, nothing to do with muscle relaxants.
@keepthrashalive "The Singer" being Pynk, the titular character of The Wall. I should have perhaps used narrator; however I am fully aware that David never had drug problems. That was not the context I spoke of.
i remember they played this at my school dance in 8th grade. i was jumping up and down and cheering while every one else was like "what the hell is this??"
The song is about pain. And is a great description of going from that agony to the initial rush and sick feeling of painkillers, and finaly once the rush and nausa subside, you become comfortably numb.
While it is completely foolish to say that this song was written 'about' drugs (The Wall is about isolation, and its pretty clear where this fits in); this song [coincidentally] describes my experiences with morphine very accurately. :3
obviously it is about heroin... and you say 49 people were on drugs shit, im pretty sure every druggy loves this song hahaha, i got a needle full right now this is my song to do it to every time.. i love it.. comfortably numb baby..<3
If you guys have ever listened to The Wall, this is about the character Pink, a rocker, who is worn-down by his life (as well as a mental breakdown). The only thing that can keep him going is massive amounts of drugs. Most Pink Floyd songs (at least ones from Wish You Were Here until The Final Cut) are PART of a story, not just a song. Listen to the whole album. The songs make a lot more sense.
@kimbothebimbo805 i don't think it's about heroin, and i don't think it's encouraging it. i think that's how you feel when you're trippin' on acid, is what he's singing about. i don't know, i could be wrong, all i know is that it's an amazing song.
it became for me, pretty clear it was about H when he mentioned the pin prick and it being just enough to get through the show. Also, while I've never shot heroin, I've done a line of Oxycotin or two, and comfortably numb, and maybe a little sick is pretty much the perfect description for the high. Thank God I ALWAYS puked when i did it, and stopped doing it after 3-4 times. I like partying as much as the next guy, but I generally live my life trying not to vomit
@punkshaman yeah, i didn't think about the pin prick, but i think you can shoot up acid too, i don't know. and i can't ever take oxycotin again. bad, bad things i did.
this is great. and it is talking about drugs. and the whole time they are tripping acid. so yeah...you dont get numb and have baloon hands from not doing drugs, just saying. and if youve ever been to there concert you would know. hhaha
@Sissy950 Honestly try out dope, if you smoke weed why not snort dope. its the best feeling without a bad comedown and you dont feel braindead like you do afer you smoked weed all day
@sambozoukov yes it is.. it is about the singer over dosing on drugs.. if youve watched the movie "the wall" you would understand what exactly the song is about.
@sambozoukov um yeah it is about drugs... It's about the time Waters was injected with tranquilizers before a show due to stomach cramps... so this song is completely about drugs!
This music is great why can't they do this to modern day music. Listen to Justin beiber and compare it to this modern day music has not talent all it is rap that is generated by computers and some skinny black guy singing... anyone can do that i see it in church all the time. My favorite part is defiantly the lead.
Don't you love it when a certain song that you've heard time and time again give you chills and makes your hair stand up every single time you hear it?
Try checking out the webste (ww w. songsterr. c om) and look for the comfortably numb tab on there in the search engine. It helped me when I was learning. Other than that.... I use youtube as my teacher. Lol
David Gilmour's guitar is out of the world. But in my opinion, it's his voice that really draws me. Throughout his entire career, from early Floyd and later with his solo stuff and On an Island. No autotune, if anything just slight chorus like during this song. Man. I can't get enough of it.
@alexhazeful Incorrect yet again. I've liked Pink Floyd since I was a teen.
But let's not avoid the subject, shall we? You've disliked videos in the past and this: "48 people....... ummmm...can go fuck themselves :)" has undoubtedly been said about you too.
So what makes your tastes special? How is your comment any less retarded than all the others who automatically hate those who do not like their favorite videos?
A relaxing song with awesome guitar solo`s...NICE! :)

@alexhazeful I'm glad to see that you understand so well that not all people share your tastes.

People say that God listens to Eric Clapton everyday, because he is so good. Well guess, what? Chuck Norris listens to Pink Floyd everyday.
