  • are you from ny ?

  • Also, the accents you portray, even by "olden days" standards are very ethnicity-specific. The "Brooklyn Accent" demonstrated here for example, sounds more specifically like an "old Jewish Brooklynite" accent. I doubt any of the Irish/Italian/Polish (etc) segments of Brooklyn produced many people who spoke like that.

  • Might have held true back in some period of "the olden days", but these days you'd be hard pressed to even find someone who speaks English as a first language in Queens (for example).

  • YO TONY, HAND ME TOMMY GUN WILL YAH?

  • This is a riot. It's been more than 30 years since I left the NY area, and while I had no idea that there were distinct accents by borough, I'm sure I've heard each of the accents demonstrated here. Very entertaining.

  • omg you must be joking....NO ONE I grew up with EVER sounded like that. I do know some people with a pronounced Brooklyn accent ... but the only other time I have heard that type of speech you portray is on TV where it is ridiculously exaggerated

  • great video. i am from da bronx, but people say i sound like i am from brooklyn.

    chud1able.

  • @SpikeFancier Janice*

  • Queens sound at first sounded like louis on family guy

  • The individual borough accents have faded and the only way to here them is to talk to your grandparents. Also there is a stark difference in the New York dialect between male and female speakers, more so than any other accent in America.

  • Janet from Friends?

  • sounds more like angry italian moms to me

  • I love my bronx accent and would neva change it for the world 3

  • im from queens...i live there...

  • Brooklyn = Bugs Bunny!!!

  • Queens is Janice from friends

  • lol the queens is fran fines mother!!!!

  • Masterbate my bowels?

  • Queens don't sound like that and also we aren't depressed living here lol smh

  • I actually think this was pretty spot on. Grew up in Manhattan, went to hs in The Bronx(the italian area), college in BK and dated a guy from Queens. I now have the absolute worst accent ever..no one expect to hear it especially coming out a black girl's mouth :)

  • I find the Bronx accent so aggressive, it's like a punch in the stomach.

  • haha Manhattan. So true.

hi, blah blah blah bye ... -walks away

    ??? um, ya hi ???

  • Queens... We don't sound like that...

  • LMAO Manhattan accent. So true. I get anxiety everytime I talk with my friend's aunt who lives on 34th street.

  • @ins1d3out1611 Everything is just MADDDDD fast. I mean, New Yorkers generally speak plenty faster but Manhattan, man.... Like... You mad bro?

  • Sounds like a leprechaun

  • So off on so many levels.. smh lol

  • Sounds like it has kept some of the Dutch accent from New Amsterdam a few hundred years ago.

  • Lol not accurate.

  • Brooklyn reminds me of mike Tyson...

  • Queens sounds a little bit like Janice from FRIENDS :D

  • Being from Brooklyn and now living on the west coast, I loved hearing the Bronx and Brooklyn accents. They really cracked me up!

  • Queens sounds like Fran from The Nanny. I kinda talk like Manhattan, all fast

  • What, no dickhead Italian greaseball accent?

  • What the fuck is this!

  • brooklyn is mad off

  • I grew up in Queens and the only people who talk the way she does were from Forest Hills. She completely misses the point that accents are inherited and Jewish does not sound like Italian does not sound like Irish. She doesn't even mention the glottal stop which is what got me laughed at when I moved away.

  • Tears are streaming from my eyes from laughter.

You neeeed to add Long Island!!

  • That was GREAT!

  • I was born in Phoenix but I was raised in queens for a gud little bit. Im back in phx now. My accent is very watered down now. People here tell me it's still very strong but hey WTF wud they kno lol...

  • Only Italians sound like this....I've never met a non italian-american with any of these accents.. and i grew up in Brooklyn, lived in Queens and in the Bronx...and Brooklyn is not just bayridge..the BX is not just City Island and Queens Is not just howard beach...

  • This lady is so WRONG about everything she said.

  • LOL...Jay Z talks just like your Brooklyn accent! I'm from Louisiana so this was interesting

  • I've lived in NYC all my life. I was born here. I have never heard anybody speak like that. The manhattan and is right but most of these accents died. I feel like some of these were made up.

  • brooklyn sounds like mike tyson

  • have you ever even been to ny? haven't ever heard these accents and i was born & raised here.

  • Brooklyn is Lois from Family Guy! LOL!

  • the bronx sounds like mort the jew

  • NYC is a sewer. I left Bklyn in 1977. Everything seems run down, even the people.

  • It's said the accent Mel Blanc gave Bugs Bunny was a cross between Bronx and Brooklyn...I took a bus tour of New Orleans and the driver/guide said she was indeed from N.O. but in some ways their accent was kind of like NYC. She talked about how she'd pronounce "Toilet" as "Terlet" like Archie or Edith Bunker would!

  • Queens sounds like Fran from the Nanny.

  • @arielmariaa Exactly like her. I think she's from there.

  • @arielmariaa Or Janice from Friends lol

  • @arielmariaa you realize shes from Queens right?

  • Hell yeah, the Queens accent really does sound like Janice in Friends!

    Oh. My. God! lol

  • no matter where in america you come from i still love american accent

  • I think I just had a vowel movement! I'm from Buffalo so there is alot of the Chicago sound & also NYC sound. we're right in da centah, between 'em ya kno? ovah dare

  • Im from queens n I don't appreciate that.... lol nah its all in good fun. Ya Brooklyn sounds like woody Allen!!

  • Queens sounds like the nanny!

  • She sounds like Lois griffen

  • Staten Islanders sound nothing like that. Her Bronx accent sounds more like a Staten Island accent.

  • How are all of the voices annoying as shit?

  • I'm from Brooklyn originally, my accent is sort of generic american though.

The only people I know who talk like the Brooklyn in this video happen to be elderly women. XD

  • OBNIXXIIIIIIIOOOOOOOUUUUUUUSSSS AND NAAAAAGGGGGGGGGYYYYYYY.

  • barbara streisand is actually from brooklyn. my grandfather and his crew used to make fun of her nose when she worked the counter at a local store. true story

  • pretty much everyone in south new york talks pretty much the same. mt.vernon yonkers, some of westchester, pretty much anything from 25 miles north of the bronx to north jersey to the rest of the boroughs to long island basically sound the same. However some new yorkers choose to sound proper and drop the accent. Especially native new yorkers of the yuppy faction. the kids. You would think they were from fuckin california. really it depends on the individual and the nationality more then anyting

  • I love this video, Accents 101. Thank you!

  • hahahaha "Brooklyn is more sing sowng"! haha <3 this person!!!

  • Queens sounds totally like marcel the shell!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love that guy!

  • Girl u had it right u sounded more like JANICE or FRAN on the queens part... Manhattan superb! Nailed it

  • You're confusing Queens with a jewish accent.

  • Wow! Great video! FINALLY someone got it right! Thanks!!

  • FRAN.

  • hey i love this video! could you possibly do another one going more into detail about how to do each accent? i'm actually currently doing a project for a theatre class about the various dialects of new york and i'd love to be able to use this

  • Hate these BS accents! They are nothing but exagerrated accents of a few from specific boroughs. Born and raised in Brooklyn and Queens and I never ever met or have known someone who sounds like what this lady has portrayed.

  • Janice!!!

  • thumbs up if you guys think the queens one sounds like barbara streisand lmao

  • @dimez000

Nah, man. It sounds like the fuckin' nanny.

  • @dimez000 Sounds more like Janice from Friends lol

  • I love the Bronx accent. Gritty and tough.

I already imagined a American EastEnders there

  • WHAT?!?! I <3 Queens

  • great. very funny

  • Brooklyn accent is completely bullshit

  • u need to masturbate ya vowels lol

  • @MsBXprincessISBACK she said masticate lol not masturbate

  • Your Brooklyn accent sounds very Jewish.

  • janice from friends ha

  • This sounds nothing like Brooklyn.

  • queens sounded like louis from family guy

  • This should by titled, Italian, Jewish, Irish accents. Most of us don't talk like this

  • Get this women for the new gta shed do 100s of accents

  • Very nice. You kiss your mother with that mouth?

  • lol...."you ENJOY your vowels"

  • That is not a Bronx accent , but it's mad true about staten island.

  • HAHAH i've been to NYC before, only because i'm from long island & if have a say to this, its pretty accurate. but my cousins live in queens and they talk nothing like that :P

  • is this spot on?

  • Queens sounds like Janice from FRIENDS!!! Haha

  • @Lkbnnrmn345 Exactly my thoughts! lol

  • This was hilarious!!

  • Yep. Staten Island getting kicked around again. Bastard.

  • Thanks for this! I'm doing a monologue from The House of Blue Leaves (Bunny) and it really helped.

  • I grew up on the eastern Island and this is pretty much how we view the City accents- we picked on the Bronx dialect the most "Turlet" (toilet) and "Go axe yaw Muddah wahts fa dinnah" - words ending in "sk" were pronounced "x" or "ks" instead. When I'm identified as a NYer I always get the "Jewish G" "Oh you're from "LawnG IslanD" when in fact we drop the "ong" sound entirely and it's more of a Laaawn Eye-lan. Probably vestiges of the Dutch- no R sounds and soft endings. Fun memories. Thx!

  • The Bronx accent is def on point though. Everyone there has a sort of italian derivative.... def intimidating lol

  • My gf is from Brooklyn but according to you, she sound more like Da Bronx

I'm from QUEENS and I do not sound like Fran Drescher! In fact I know no one that sounds like that.

  • They all sound like jewish american princess accents. nobody in my italian family talks like that.

  • I'm from Queeeeens... I live here... LOL

  • brooklyn accent sounds like chinese

  • Brooklyn accent does NOT sound like that, it's too high pitched

  • @melissadeortiz Yeah I agree

  • When I heard the queens I thought of Janice from Friends saying Oh. My. GAWD.

  • Comment removed

  • The Queens one, sounds like fran from the nanny!!!!!!

  • @truelovewaits116 lol I thought the queens one sounds like fran also

  • I am a native of The Bronx. I only heard that accent with Jewish people.

  • so everyone in ny is jew or italian

  • nyeh nyeh nyeh

  • 5000 cups of coffee

  • Queens accent = Janice from Friends :D

  • Nasal, its spelled nasal. What, you guys don't have spellcheck in New York?

  • All jewish sounding new yorker accents? or is that the near same for everyone there?

  • i thought she said masturbate to your vowels. LOL.

  • part 2 and no one anywhere anymore talks like , That hoyts, or I hoid a verse. Like Art Carney in honey mooners or archie bunker. That's a near extinct vernacular

  • she got some wrong. Though some parts of queens are nazal, like flushing - but mostly, the nazal borogh is the bronx. Think of nancy Walker, Edith Bunker, Rhoda's sister...They're all very bronx soundihng. Brooklyn is like Debbie maizal, the secretary from spin city. ANd Manhattan has no accent now, but earlier on, it varied between neighborhhoods. The Irish of Hell's Kitchen sounded different then the lower east side jews, who sounded different from Little Italy's Italians.

  • lolol - favored for being so funnyyy

  • the bronx haha

  • nicely done; distinctiveness of each accent.

  • Carrie Hefernan from The King of Queens-that's the accent you have for Queens.

  • lol your queens accent sounded like Sylvia Fine :)

Oh by the way if you know where to chill its live we aint no dirty ghetto hood rats like the bronx. BUT im not going to front bk (brooklyn) is live whenever ive been there

  • elongate and masturbate your vowels

  • I live in california but I luv the bronx accent, I dated a girl from the bronx and I picked up the accent a lil bit, so there are times when I say "dawg" "dohr". queens is probably the most annoying accent ever :D

  • @Socoolscienceshow you must be bored coo coo!

  • You got the Manhattan accent sooo right

  • @yukisucks00 I talk really fast like the Manhattan Accent (Weird, I'm from the Bronx...) and my mom yells at me for doing it -_-

  • Im from California so all this was a shock. I think Brooklyn's tougher than the Bronx

  • Hahah, she's right. Queens sucks. I don't have an accent myself(although I have been told I sound like a "city kid" whenever i visit relatives overseas), but I don't really hear the accent in Manhattan. At all. Everyone there speaks really neutral and midwestern there :P A lot of my teachers/profs have/had the NYC accent but not many students and then I have one friend from Brooklyn who has no accent whatsoever lol. So I guess my point is that people talk differently despite where they're from.

  • @punkgrl325- I'm a native Queens girl. Don't hate thats why it called Queens because thats who lives or is from there. A beautiful place that ACTUALLY has suburbs thank you!

  • @feminineandfeisty I'm from Queens...wasn't born but I was raised here, and yes, I do live in its suburban areas, but I have to commute to Flushing for school. At any rate, it was just a joke. Try not to be so serious :)

  • queens: lois griffin!!!!!!!!HAHAHAH!:D

  • queens and brooklyn got it locked down

  • Ah ...very good, I'm from the Seattle area and, when I'm in NYC feel like I'm really on vacation since I have to put my listening ear on if you know what I mean. Almost like I'm in another country when listening to people there. Your explanations are very good and, explains why our coffee Starbucks does so well in the city, lol thanks.

  • i LOVE staten island & the bronx accent :')

  • 0:35, Brooklyn accent sounds just like the mom in Matilda.

  • *sigh* these accents are disappearing! :(

  • these stereotypes is hilarious

  • I love ALL of these accents. I wish I had one of these instead of a british accent. :(

  • @SafSuperSaf Im speachless

  • @carnut476 Lol. How come? XD

  • No wait, it's defiantly S.I.

  • Gorge from Seinfield, his parents come from queens don't they?

  • I'm from Rochester..... fwm ny all day

  • I masticated to this.

  • Sycked

  • Very good & funny.

  • California native, I have a "Western States" accent.

  • sounds like fran from the nanny
