  • FLUBBBBBY BASS SUCKSSSSS

    Band kicks ass though

  • @NoggaNewt - I like fat 70s bass. I dont like modern metals sharp trebley grinding bass that you can barely hear because the guitars drown it out.

  • @progjazzfusion na that ain't 70's bass. thats poorly EQ'd and poorly mic'd flubb. i hate treble-y bass too. its just this particular recording.

  • @NoggaNewt - well the bass sound is similar to geezer butlers of the era. this show is known for it's excellent sound production and gear, not "poor" by any means. What you are hearing is more likely a combination of things like dead flatwound strings, his personal playing style, and small 12" speakers in the amp cab he's using, as often the amps+spk cabs they used on this program for bass were the same 4x12 orange cabs+amps as the guitarist used. I see sennheiser 421 mics. nice mics

  • the guitar sounds like a mouth organ, great like.

  • "UFO Live" for me is one of the best Live Albums of all times (together with Lynyrd Skynyrd's "One more from the road" and Thin Lizzy's "Live 'n dangerous"). It's unsophisticated, raw and full of power.

  • pure love! hypnotic, mesmerizing, flow!

  • U.F.O Live was my first longplayer !

  • schöner Boogie-Rock!

  • this is the real "space"ufo ,not to compare with the later "rock"ufo -nothing against schenker, but this is spacerock, according to the name of the band, and bolton was the genius.

  • UFO with Shenker kicks ass... but the Bolton era was more hallucinating. UFO 2: Flying is one of the best rock albums ever!

  • Killer Klasssic Music. 3X's Grat Gratus....1 of the best albums

  • UFO doing some Free "The Hunter" is just the best. Two of my favorite bands of all time!

  • Habe sie Live 1973 gesehen GEILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • habs leider verpasst, war damals erst 12. Fand es aber auch da schon gut !! regards Prince K. :-)

  • Still groovy as fuck for today's standards !!!!!

This, along with early Purple, laid the bleuprint for metal !!!

  • Ufo!!!!dizer o que dos caras?É curtir...

  • bummers

  • Don't anyone try to tell me that this band wasn't good before Schenker because if they do they don't know what they are talking about!

  • boah geil

  • WHAT A DRAG !

  • love this but cant find this version anywhere to buy or download can anyone help please

  • yes this ufo,.... jimi and janis were still alive, zep III hadnt come out yet, duane allman was still alive,.... not sure about morrison....this shit is fucking killer....

  • 2:30 the hunter

  • pete way has never changed, to me he has always been the heart and soul behind ufo..... this is killer shit....

  • Bought the record back in the day. Really a worldclass act in the making. Many basic mistakes, bad timings etc. But who cares, the general idea is just great. Still got this LP and still play it at times, ha!

  • @progjazzfusion as soon as I heard this tune I grabbed the whole discography, now I can Kyuss Lives all day long (=

  • The bass is increeeeeedibly loud in the mix! hahahahahahaha

It's swallowing up the vocals for christ's sake!

  • What ever happened to Mick Bolton?

  • @karenpato1 - drummer and bass reminds me of the sabbath guys...same basic simple sludgey approach

  • @progjazzfusion oh yeah sabbath

  • @karenpato1 - better than gibbons, but similar thick tone.

  • PS: F*ck that Schenker bullshit, Bolton was the real genius behind UFO !!

  • I want mooooore of Mick Bolton!!! UFO's seconds album Flying is the best music ever played, i could cry all day they split after bringing out the best album of all time. :(

  • Flying (1971) mit 26m30s ist ultimativ....

    GOD !!!!!! (good old days)

  • After their success in the mid 70s, I bought UFO 2 (some years after its release). Very spacey and unique under produced sound. It got damaged that same year by walking outside with it in the dark (and with a head change). I kept it all these years later even though it had a gouge in it right in the middle of Star Storm. I just sold it last year for $15 as is. In ex condition it's worth $50 maybe??????

  • 7 people have no audio capabilities to their hardware.

  • @abrahamsha Don't try that stupid joke here, people who listen to this music are not kids who usually "thumb up" that kind of comments...

  • @amcotale wtf if your problem? I'll try any joke I bloody want to, PROBLEM??

And don't try any stupid reply people who listen to this music are neither stupid nor smart they're people who like this music.

    mkay?

  • Free also did the song "The Hunter" live on a BBC show about the same time.....great music happening then......

  • that's some killer sh-t

  • their best song, i think

  • cviruliki, cviruliki.

  • Awesome video. Thank you Tony for sharing. Nadine:)

  • UFO just fekin rock

  • i love this !!!

  • look at the first seconds, the guitar has one of the strings cut

  • there is a couple of lines of Led Zep's "How Many More Times", what up with that uploader?

  • @juacozeppelin the lyrics in question were not written by Plant, Page, Jones or Bonham...in fact, many more times they "borrowed" not only the lyrics, but also the melodies - hell, the whole songs of early blues masters like Willy Dixon, Muddy Waters, and alot more -- the Zep just rocked them up and made their fantastic versions of them. Take the time to investigate -- it's good for your brain!! hahah 8]

  • @juacozeppelin Actually the song "The Hunter" by Albert King is quoted in this song. Zep also quoted this song from around the same period. :B

  • yeah baby yeah boogi ebaby

  • Different, earlier feel but Mogg still has such a great voice.

  • ufo rocks

  • cool

  • I have wondered since 'Phenom' LP ...WHAT HAPPENED TO BOLTON??? When I got the 1st LP with Schenker I thought they now have 2 guitars, till I cked the credits. Thx much 4 sharing this piece of history!

  • @recman1207 I heard, but I can't confirm, that Bolton worked for Shcenker as a technician, but don't quote me on this

  • @recman1207 In 1973 they went to Germany, Michael was in Scorpins at the time, and Bolton forgot his passport, Scorps were supporting UFO at the time. UFO asked Michael if he would play with them for the gig..something like that anyway.....

  • Is Bolton another drug casualty or what....never heard of him...love the vid ....love UFO ...& MICHAEL SCHENKER is still GOD!

  • looking alot like Deep Purple here..

  • that's probably the best bassline I've ever heard...

  • ufo with mick bolton then schenker are better.

  • Cool :)

  • oh shit this is just amazing !!

its sad the pitiful rock music the kids are listening these days !

  • Best ever music

  • so stoner guys...

  • In some parts this reminds me a little of Fairies Wear Boots by Black Sabbath..

  • holy F great

  • oh Leute....war das noch geil....wie oft hat man nach dem Stück auf der Tanzfläche abgetanzt??

  • Simply beautiful music. This band kicks ass. The rock music of today have nothing on the classics. Rock music today is nothing more than whiny bullshit and it all sounds the same.

  • Man waren das Zeiten ! Die Haare lang, die Musik laut, der schwarze Afghan rein und billig, die Mädels ............Ich will zurück.....

  • shenker ufo is great, but I'm more a blues/phycodelic fan....love this shit

  • @bozozoo I agree. Im more into this earlier stuff..This is great!

  • i love this band, its so fucking awesome

  • Don't know what else to say.....this is Awesome....it should be a rock classic!!!

  • Yes please, i wanna know too whatever became of Mick Bolton !!

Seems like no one knows anything....he was such a talent

  • @SlickStickJackson I read a story some where andit claims Mick is Micheal Schenker's Guitar tech

  • Dang, in this vid Phil is 22, Mick and Pete are 19, and Andy is only 18. Is it just me, or does Pete look just like Gary Thain from Uriah Heep in this video. Check out The Wizard promo and tell me if you agree.

  • My dad have the album i see the ambum when i have 7 or 8 years, and one day he put the turntable and buy beer, my birthday 20 and i drink whit him and we listen this album great album and great song . UFO nice...thanks dad.

    Sorry for my inglish.

    From Silao, guanajuato Mexico

  • Cool thanks for the post prog

  • I never followed UFO much, this shit rocks.I like there old blues rock (Free,Humble Pie,Faces) style

  • Great video. Love UFO! Even without Michael, still sounds amazing. Cool special effects too! Great stuff!

  • Guys

    Whatever became of Mick Bolton?

    He seems to have disappeared.

  • Does anyone notice that Phil looks alot like Bruce Dickinson in the 80's? Epic. Pete Way was only 19 and Andy was 18. Wow.

  • great band .. great music

  • class tune

  • Great band just bought showtime great dvd

  • I prefer the songs from the early UFO w/ Bolton over their later work w/ Schenker. Although both are good, I just prefer the earlier stuff.

  • U F O LP#1.

  • I must ask, what are those weird rocks that are flying around in the video? They're also on the album that this song is from.

  • @DarkForces99 this tv show often used groups album covers as backgrounds. the album cover itself just looked like generic space rocks to go with the 'cosmic' space/ufo theme, though theres nothing spacey about the music, so why did they name themselves ufo to begin with?

  • Their space rock formula is on their 2nd album, most prevalent in the song "Star Storm" It's a great album.

  • @progjazzfusion They got the name UFO from a London Happening Club at the time they start playing which obviously was a Club : UFO!

  • @progjazzfusion Because there was a club in London in the sixties called UFO where the band played under their original name of "Hocus Pocus". They were spotted at the club in late 1969 and signed to Beacon records.

  • @progjazzfusion Well listen to Space Child and you shall find your answer.

  • @progjazzfusion there was a club called the uf o club in london i believe

  • @bluesfunky009 you're correct..that's where they got the name

  • @progjazzfusion There was a club in London called UFO, that's what they named themselves after. Pink Floyd used to play at this same club.

  • @progjazzfusion for one reason, because the hip underground club at the time was called ufo. floyd, hawkwind, and of course mogg's group played there. ufo was a ladbroke grove rock group that grew up in the shadows of hawkwind (definitely a space rock band). the mogg/bolton unit DID have pretensions to being a "space rock" group, and at times they got a little "spacey" (well, "far out" at least).

  • @progjazzfusion IMAO the second album is very spacy, actually it was titled "Flying: One hour space rock"...

  • @DarkForces99 Damn, man, that's the egg!

  • i keep on coming back to this song the best ufo it is raw

  • The hunter... classic, how come everyone used it? :D

  • Because everyone in the 60's-70's knew how to appreciate a good old blues song?

  • Early UFO is the best UFO.

  • @Eldryzif Neither brilliant nor awesome go far to describe this UFO song, kind of reminds me of Uriah Heap!! LONG LIVE ROCK 'N' ROLL

  • @Eldryzif Schenker-era UFO is the best UFO.

  • @Eldryzif yes you're right, the decca years ist the best album

  • Thanks for posting this gem!!

Anyone know what Mick's doing these days? I tried looking him up on MySpace and FaceBook with no luck. He was really underrated.

Oh, and does anyone know if there's anymore live footage from this era?

  • love that gold top.

  • They call me the Hunter, thats my name, Well, Blue Cheer, Led Zeppelin, UFO, Danzig.

  • Free.

  • wow, I didnt even know UFO was around that early! I saw them in '77, my first concert, they were opening for AC/DC, who were unknown at the time. Concert cost $3. I saw UFO again oepning for Ozzy in 1982 on Randy Rhodes' last concert the night before he died. Some crazy guy drew a snake out of his pocket (dead) and threw it at the guys in UFO. Later on, the same guy threw another dead snake at Ozzy.

  • I was in High School at the time and I got to see them in Chicago. The best show EVER.

    Debbie

  • long live bolton ufo!!!

  • ...and i tought that i was the only one to believe that...

    Cheers mate!

  • haha yeah man schenker just cant send you flying through space like bolton could

schenker is a great heavy metal guitarist though

  • HMM I LIKE THIS

  • @z1chuckster: AMEN

  • This is great rock music ! I can`t even listen to the overproduced crap that is being put out today.

  • @z1chuckster right on, chuckster! i'm no producer but I know what i like and this 70's deep metal sound is awesome! metal today is either that low-growl death metal mumbo jumbo or otherwise unintelligible hard rock trying to copy metallica, et al. Give me Budgie, old UFO, Cap. Beyond and handful of other 70's era bands and i'm happy.

  • Great!

  • shook your hair if you have someone! shook it........................and you will feel great. call me the hunter.

  • Great freakin' song....Sabbath was happening at the time....UFO was jamming with the best....Acid Rock

  • I agree. I'm beginning to understand more and more why Steve Harris, Kirk Hammett, Dave Mustaine, Frank Hannon (Telsa) and Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) all site UFO as one of, if not their biggest, influences. Even without Michael, this band could crank it.

  • It all goes to Michael Schenker not the whole UFO.

  • Nice .... favourite for best acid song all time gotta be Warm Sounds - Nite Is A'Comin. You can taste it!!

  • This song absolutely kicks ass, got all all 3 Beacon era UFO records, really love this early proto metal stuff, so many great bands to discover.

  • yeah love the early heavy stuff...check out the first 2 blue cheer albums from 68...they were heavy first...before sab even.

  • I'm curious, does anyone know what became of the guitar player here afterhe left UFO? He's got a good sound.

  • @16penney In the early '80s he was guitar roadie for Michael Schenker in MSG. Still had his chops then, because he could play Schenker's solo's note for note. Too bad I don't have the copy of the Dutch magazine anymore with that interview of the MSG members :-(

  • Long live UFO whether it's the early Space , Bluesy Heavy Bolton era or the later Metalish , Hard era of Shenker .........a fan from Saudi Arabia .

  • great guitar work!

  • i could play the bass for this song :D

    fuckinggg sickkkk

    song

  • does anyone know if this lineup ever toured america (Bolton era)?

  • Ein später Beat-Club!

  • Way hard to believe this is only 1 year after Woodstock. Love UFO!

  • The bbirth of a legend

  • Yep, Phil singing, Pete Way on bass, and Andy Parker on drums. They would pick up Schenker soon. Mick Bolton was the guitarist for the first two studio albums and a live one I think.

  • Someone was listening to Zep (The Hunter...Whole Lotta Love!) and probably some Black Sabbath.......;)

  • maybe they were listening to the original "hunter" song like zeppelin and everyone else to covered it at the time.

  • The sound of UFO before the Schenker era reminds me of Black Sabbath too. Nothing bad about that, I'm just saying that it reminds me of them. Unlike Welshbluesman, I don't think they were trying to copy Sabbath though. I just think they shared the same influences.

  • Flipping 'eck, I never realised they went this far back! But sure enough that's Phil Mogg singing.

  • willie dixon - hunter

  • I love how the beginning sounds, that sound from

late 60's. The heavy bands..The tone or sound just melts like butter..

  • Excellent point. I've often wondered where that sound came from back then; was it the gear, or shall I say lack of so much gear like nowdays? I think that sound comes from the smaller places they performed in too, as opposed to the huge arena rock concerts that came a little later.

  • the heavy 70's sound is a conglomerate of many things...analog tape, compressors, and other gear that is inaccurate in terms of frequency range, transient response and distortion compared to modern gear. Also different miking and mixing techniques, flatwound strings on basses, etc, etc, etc. Everything adds up and results in that colored early 70's sound. Even moreso on albums than live in studio like here.

  • someone knows their shit, lol but you are right all those factors come into play

  • hey you must be a producer or something..it's true ..flatwound strings had their own sound!

  • yes I do recording and I try to emulate this 70's sound sometimes. My fave bass strings are "Half Rounds" which are halfway between the dead flatwound sound like this video and modern strings. "Half Rounds" can also be called "Ground Wounds". REcommended if you want more of an early 70's bass sound like this, but maybe not quite all the way as dead and flat sounding.

  • wow, this goes back a few

  • Good song this not heard this for many a year, thanks for posting.

  • Great video!

  • Comment removed

  • The best years of UFO were with Mick Bolton. Thanks for this awesome video man. Keep rocking!

  • i agree. I also like Phenomenon with Schenker but after that they got softer and away from the space rock......then the keyboards oh no! But yeah Mick Bolton years are the best. The Early Years 70-73 cd rocks.

  • Yeah, I recently bought the album and loved it. Nothing wrong with keyboards, but they didn't really do anything to create that spacey atmosphere for their hard rock sound after Bolton's departure.

  • I will say it again, this is why i watch the tube, thanks for the share AWESOME

  • They are singing The Hunter by Free 2:27

  • "the Hunter" is not by Free. it was a 60's blues standard that many bands played since then...Blue Cheer, etc. This has been discussed at length here many comments ago, so see the earlier comments if you want to know more about the origins of the song "The Hunter".

  • The Hunter is by Albert King I believe. Great song. Also theres a clip of led zeppelin covering it in 1970 at the royal albert hall here on youtube awhile back. Blue Cheer's version is the best in my mind.

  • Yes, Albert King did the original song. It was written by Booker T. Jones

  • Excelente performance de UFO..esa guitarra es de locos!!!....

  • Comment removed

  • Pete way is awsome, can see where steve harris gets his great playing style from.

  • What calls our attention is the bass tone. Awesome.

  • Pete Way always had brilliant tone

  • fuck yeah its the shasissle!!!

  • der absolute hammer

    wie von einem andern stern

  • hey ---

    eines ihrer schönsten stücke------

    ich liebe UFO....

heute so geil wie in den 70ern.......

    das waren noch zeiten.....

  • Pete Way...Yep...

  • oooo Love that bass tone!!!! is very Geezer butler sounding.

  • Wow, Bo Bice is good on guitar!!

  • the singer needs a couple of years in the army

  • Army?! What did he do to you so that you have so much hate on him?

  • i was joking .....i am going to see them in june....not my scene but going with a mate who likes them
