  • welcome dude

  • mommy that kid scares me

  • How did u mount the camera? i have the X rocket and wanna try this. whats the camera cost?

  • that thing sounded like a hybrid awesome launch

  • @NASAmaster8181 Thanks for watching!

  • Nice hour

  • made me sick watching the turbulence lol

  • In that case...WAY TO GO! When I first started building, I was lucky if all the fins stayed attached.

  • You should try sanding the leading edges of your fins into a more aero shape 'cause it looks unfinished

  • @hamid236 [SARCASM]Thanks for watching. I will be sure to let my son, who built the rocket ( at 5 years old at the time) know that you disapprove of his building prowess... [/SARCASM]

  • Nice launch video!

  • I built and flew Estes and Centeri rockets in the mid 1970's and the Big Bertha was my favorite !

  • cool

  • Did you bundle the parachute right? It looks like it came down fast compared to some of mine.

  • @rhett2909 Chute opened just fine. Remember this was holding over and ounce more weight with the camera on it. Thanks for watching. ~ James

  • @FangarJim That makes sense...

  • thumbs up if your building a big bertha!

  • didnt the ant in the video hear the warning siren and countdown? not paying attention might make u end up dead

  • what camera did you use? and how did you put it in the rocket?

  • Im dizzy

  • This totally reminds me of me and my brother when were about 10. It was so much fun and the kid in this vid is having a blast!. Back then, I always wondered what a video camera would look on one of these things. At the time it was impossible to do, but now that cams are so cheap, everyone is doing it!!!!

  • Amazing photography! Can never get enough of rocket launched on-board video. Also, cute little guy who I am sure really appreciates his Dad. Thanx again.

  • I used toilet paper once for wadding. Bad idea. It burnt the chute and caught a field on fire lol.

  • I thought the video would be all fuzzy and jumpy...cool that it isnt...Nice VID!!!

  • Awesome. Always loved the Big Bertha. I'm thinking of building another one to carry a 808 keyfob vid cam. Nice video. Thanks for the inspiration.

  • I have built rockets and used the biggest engine possible just to see how high it would go and if it would come back. I was for sure that I lost one once...couldn't even see it, and it landed about 100 feet from us.

  • nice video, did make me a little dizzy....

  • Good slow-mo at ending, eat your heart ot NASA

  • you guys are so lucky that it landed 20 feet in front of you. the first time i launched my rocket, i used the C6-5 engine (big mistake) and it dirfted a little more than a quarter mile away. took us 45 minutes to find it.

    anyway, cool launch!

  • HOW HIGH?

  • big bertha is sopose to be black lol

  • me and my dad started to launch model rockets today okay i think if we have 2 launch pads and shoot them off at the same time would be really cool we onley have one

  • its like the nuke in call of duty four

  • DID U SEE THT BUG?!?!?! HE GOT OWNED!!! ANYWAY GREAT LAUNCH!!!

  • The Big Bertha is one of my favorite rockets of all time. It really flies nice.

  • I'm getting dizzy.

  • Nice footage, men.

  • from 0:09-0:11 it sounds like a vaccum

  • lol, pause at 0:40

  • I wish i had some rockets i found one, lying in my yard 2 days ago haha now i just need to figure out ho the shute works and where to get a fuel cell my goal is to get one into space haha its gunna take alot of fuel pieces and some mathmatics

  • Estes now has a channel on YouTube! Subscribe at youtube.com/user/EstesModelRockets.

  • I love it!!!! the best video yet...I wanna do it now!!! AWESOME! YEAH! WOW! Like the slow-mo a lot too.

  • just bought an estes atlas III rocket. hope it works!

  • That's great! Me and my dad started launching model rockets recently, but we've lost them all after launch so far. I guess it takes some practice! Just wanted to say this video is really cool!

  • @cordsman Glad to hear you liked it. Also nice to hear you and your Dad are having fun. Don't be discouraged as I lost many myself as a kid. Keep learning and having fun! ~ James

  • @cordsman what were the wind speeds

  • @ireneetull not too high except for the last one. we just needed some practice. the last 6 or so launched have gone perfect!

  • @cordsman don't let the loss of the rockets get you down. How big is the field your launching in?

NAR recommend that you have like 400ft radius clearing for a C grade motor.

  • sweet!

  • That's one crazy decent.

  • We're broadcasting Rocket launches live for a new game from Intel and Dick Smith called Turboboost Touchdown. We're using 5 cameras + 2 onboard cameras and 9 different C,D and E engine fully decal'd rockets.

  • Nice

  • cool dude!

  • great video having fun with rockets and sharing the enjoyment with younger generation... five stars... I put a similar camera on my pigeons its fun to watch those videos

  • @newpigeonguy

Thanks for the post and kind words! I checked out your pigeon cam! Now that is really great. Keep posting! ~ James

  • that looked awesome

  • That's COOL!

  • that's one happy kid

  • This is America

We speak english. Type REAL WORDS!

  • @laffstv all that may be ture but the must important part is his son had fun. Which is what make him a great dad

  • nice launch for having counter weight, it went strait up and strait down

  • very cool. what kind of cam was that taken with?

  • ST Labs eDVR. Thanks for watching!

  • vertigo!

  • Good video! But......one little question: How come the rocket didn't continue upward with the delay before the chute deployed? It seemed like it started going down before the chute deployed.

  • Thanks for watching... The Motor used was a C6-5. The number 5 at the end represents the time delay from the boost stage to the parachute deployment. Even though you saw the smoke trail, if you listen closely, you will hear the boost stage run out... count 5 seconds and the chute deploys. Gravity causes the rocket to begin to fall prior to that. ~ Cheers.

  • I dont launch rockets anymore because a teacher of mine says it's illegal is that true?

  • Not illegal. I guess it might depend on where you live, but they have been selling rockets at hobby shops since I was a kid.

  • Your video inspired me and my dad to try the same thing! check out my channel, and comment on the video and tell me what you think!

  • Great work. Have fun!

  • That was awsome!!!

  • Nicely done!

  • Thanks for watching! ~ James

  • Did you add any sound effects if not that sound is SO COOL

  • Nope. That is the sound of the rocket. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • Awesome job man i launched my first model rocket yesterday

it was an estes wicket streak and sadly it ended up in a tree

    ps im 12

  • Totally cool. Check out my channel for a rocketcam video, it was my first attempt and has surprise ending!

  • That was really cool. I built rockets as a kid but we did not have the cool tech stuff you have now. Great job on the video.

  • Thanks for the kind words. I built them as a kid as well. I used to dream of putting cameras on them. Now my son can see what it looks like.

  • Nice video. How did you mount your cam on the rocket? On the Bodytube? I`ll try to mount a MD80 on the Big Bertha, i think i have to build it in the nose.

Would be glad to hear from you!

  • Hello Skylaunch. It was a simple Balsa mount right to the side of the Body tube. You will want to find a place the mount it where it does not effect the Center of Gravity. Have fun!

  • Nice framerate on the camera - what did you modify/purchase for the job?

  • Thanks. ST Labs eDVR 5 in 1. It is a nice little camera for the money.

  • Can it be used again?

  • Yes. With another motor, the rocket and camera are re-usable. Thanks for watching.

  • How do you make the motor? i would like to buy such a rocket but i really don't know where to buy the substances from or so..

  • You simply buy the rocket and motor. From Estes. Do a search for Estes Big Bertha.

  • No no, i mean the motor preparation, what substances do i need? in my country it's illegal to talk about "these motors" preparation. That's why i ask you..

  • You don't prepare anything. You purchase the Estes Motors. Once they are used, you pop them out and put in another one. Good luck.

  • This is a 2 yr old vid and you still take time to answer comments. your an outstanding dad and a great youtuber. Thanks. has your son ever taken a vid in for show and tell or daddy day. he should be proud

  • Thanks for the kind words. No vids in the classroom yet, but that is a good idea for the future. Thanks for watching and even more for the comments! ~ James

  • Are you a frequent rocketii

  • the camera through it off becasue it was going down but the engine was still going for about 2 seconds

  • What you were seeing was the motor smoking, but it was no longer putting out any thrust. Thanks so much for watching!

  • overall it was amasing but it didnt get that much height. wat kind of motor did you use?

  • C65. The Big Bertha is a huge bodied rocket that is only designed for a C motor. I would say about 500 feet or so max with the camera. Likely around 700 without. High enough though. There is another in my folder on a "D" series. Likely around 1000 feet on that one. Thanks for watching.

  • COME ON!!!!

  • those things are hard as hell to make

  • After the shoot blows out than it sounds peaceful quite.

  • COME ON!!!!

  • Hey how do you mount the camera on the rocket ? Can you give me the directions so i can do it ?

  • where do you buy the cameras?

  • Online. Search for ST Labs eDVR 5 in 1

  • Comment removed

  • What camera did you use?

  • ST Labs eDVR

  • Thats really cool can u make a vid attaching the cam to a Rocket? Cuz im into that stuff and would love to do that

    ~Zach

  • Does it come with a cam or what?

  • It has a small camera attache to it. This rocket did not come with a camera.

  • Great work an super quality on the video.. Still a stock big bertha? Kids sure love a rocket launch!

Take a look at the onboard video from my custom rocket.

  • Thanks. Yes, just a stock Big Bertha with a simple balsa mount I made. ~ James

  • I have the big bertha to

  • that spinning made me dizzy lol

    apart from that, good vid

  • I had one like that when I was a kid. Cool video.

  • THAT GOT SOME AIR

  • nice paint job. i like how you blended the colors

  • Thanks. My son chose the colors! ~ James

  • How did you mount the cam and what type of cam is this?

  • Bitchin'!

    Me thinks 700-950 ft.?

  • Hello, Jim! What a fine son you have! The rocketry hobby seems very interesting. Did your son help you with the rocket's construction? I bet it was 90% of the fun for him, helping his dad.

    Janine

  • Thanks Janine. He and his sister helped me with the rocket. He helped me paint it too. He loves anything that blows up or flies. Thanks for watching.

  • sounds like you need to take him for a ride in an airplane. I was just like him when I was that age. Now, I'm a pilot.

  • me too. i have loved flying since i was little and i startd flight lessons when i was 12

  • weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • I did this with my dad as a kid, I loved it. I recently found all my old rockets we built back in the day, wound up launching a few. Good fun.

  • Great Job !! Super video I raised 4 boys but at that time the camera (video) rockets were not really out yet They all went on to be great and good People, Your son has a bright future.

    Earl

    Long Live October Sky

  • Thanks for the kind words Earl. He is a good boy and I am proud of him. Thanks for watching!

  • you guys are rich huh?

  • Yes. Rich with time to spend with each other and rich with the love of family. Money... No.

    =)

  • There not expensive, its a fun cheap hobby.

  • cool video

  • i thought it blew up when the parachute opened

  • get that kid into nasa!

  • that was great perfect launch and landing. Your son was so cute

  • Thanks. He is quite the little rocket master. We had fun making this one. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • Too cool. Brings back a lot of memories.

  • what camera did you use?

  • ST Labs. There is some info down below in the previous posts.

  • yuor son is so cute!! 54321LAUUUUNNNnnnnccccccchhhh....!!!

  • Thanks. I am proud of him!

  • tha sound is totally faked out

  • Nope real sound, not edited. Right off the camera. Cheers.

  • dang that was a c6-5? me and my friend make rockets and we launched a c6-7 and it was gone u couldn't even see it

  • Thanks for watching. The BigBertha is a fairly large rocket, but designed for a "C". Your 6-7 would be the same as the 5, but with 2 seconds longer free fall before the chute charge is deployed. You are right a C-6 on a small rocket and they are gone! Have fun.

  • Try d's lol youll never recover it

  • lol today my dad put a d in a c and we lost it

  • where do u buy rocket camera

  • So nice... how do you get a video camera in such a small kit?

  • Just a real small 27 gram ST Labs eDVR camera. No problem for the rocket to pull. Thanks for watching.

  • lol ur son is funny

  • semed a bit more like a b

  • AWESOME!

  • I'd love to see the mount you made, any chance to post a picture? How small was your camera?

  • how do you mount it on the rocket

  • 00:34, Yeah!!

  • LOL. I know, I am a dork...But I love my Boy! Thanks for watching.

  • What moter wus that?

  • That was a C6-5. If you take a look into my folder, there was one sent up with a D motor. Cheers.

  • Thats cool in the slow mo you see the wadding fly out!! verry nice vid

  • I gotta admit that view looked 2 cool

  • i never noticed that

  • I have a question how far i mean what is the maximum altitude a big bertha could reach i plan to buy rockets i have to choose one Wizard, Viking Big Bertha or Guardian?? any suggestion

  • Hello. All of the rockets mentioned use an A through C engine. Altitudes will be about the same. The Big Bertha is a great rocket as it is very visible with its large diameter tube. The Wizard and the Viking would likely go a bit higher as they are more slim. If you are looking for maximum altitude from an estes rocket, go with one that will use a "D" engine. Cheers.

  • Alright thx pal, I'll follow your suggestion!

  • the greatest thing about the Big Bertha is the slow lift off.

  • the slowmo is way cool! you can even see he igniter pin being ejected!

  • Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers.

  • Nicely done! I launched my dad's Super8 movie camera back in '78. Needed 12 (yes, twelve) D12 engines to get off the ground, but it worked, went about 1000 feet. Now cameras can weigh just a few ounces...

  • Thanks for watching and commenting. I remember wanting so badly as a kid to launch a video camera.

  • Hello. I used one of the small 5 in 1 DVR camera's with a balsa mount that I made. I will post up some photos of the mount in the next video we do. Thanks for watching.

  • What camera set up did you use? Looks great. I would like to do this as well!
