The egg is smooth, the Earth's surface is jagged/w/ major grooves in comparison to it's size. My point still remains, the scripture shoulda mentioned "the shape of the Earth is xxx without water, but yyy w/ water". But even then, it should have mentioned "the Earth is the shape of an almighty bumpy ostrich egg!".

@8u5ra Sir I wish Intelligent design were true because it invalidates any and all notions of your imaganary god lie. The prime argument of ID is that EVERYTHING complex MUST have a creator. If you believe a cake or a human is complex then to make a God is even more improbable.You will have an infinite chain of God makers each one more complex than the last.
You're also in error because biological evolution requires organisms that can reproduce. As we all know a cake cannot reproduce sexually.

I read a study done on people who received faith healings vs people who didn't get faith healings. it came to the conclusion that the people with faith healings got way worse than the others who kept going to their doctors for treatments. There was also another study where people were prayed for and they got worse also. Religion always fails.

Aids is a syndrome of a variety of diseases some are treatable others are not. .Cancer is when your own cells become dammaged and reproduce incorrectly. What science can't do religion never could. Many people were unhappy when they found out the sun was the center of the universe. Today it's standard no one believes the sun is orbiting the earth like religious scholars once dogmatically claimed.

we know the sun will run out of fuel in approximately 5 billion years. We know this not because of your silly book but because we as humans have developed math and nuclear science to determine the mass and usage of fuel. You say your book supports the expanding universe and the theory of the big crunch. Both theories oppose each other and if your book says both will happen it's in error. In one theory the universe rips itself apart and or just keeps expanding the other the universe falls back in on itself.

So what of it if the earth is equated to an egg. You say eggs are prolate, I say that eggs are a certain shape because of the forces applied to them. You yourself can search the web for "prolate planet". Even so, if we look at eggs, we can find many egg types more so than bird eggs. Mammal eggs (note placenta), amphibian eggs etc. We can study eggs to one point to find the similitude of the Earth.

PLUS! The Earth has a tidal bulge moving around the center. Caused by the gravitational pull of the earth/moon relationship. That is why the oceans have high and low tides. An egg has no moving bulge anywhere.
AND as you so coolly shown, without water the earth is even less round, still not shaped like an egg, and still has a moving bulge.

I've wondered when someone would point this out. I've been told the Earth (oblate) is the shape of an ostrich egg (prolate). I found the confusion to be confusing the 2D shape from the perspective of someone looking at a 3D shape :| Just turn the oblate spheroid on its side and see it become prolate, tadaa! That's what I mean.
I also don't recall a definition of Earth not including the seas also :S

When people speak of Earth, 99.9% of the time at least, they are talking about Earth WITH water, not without water. But nice twist, if the creator of all was all knowing, it would be known to this being the context in which this verse would be taken, hence it should have been pointed out within the verse that the shape of the Earth without the water would be so and so. Vagueness in religious scripture is one of the many ways in which people can invent their own interpretations.

@TurboDally Interesting point... have you never seen an egg sweat? What vagueness in the scripture, one refers to all the terms used by the root. It is not the fault of a term that you do not understand it. And anyway, this is just one verse, of one term in the quran of 6k verses. We can study the term, we can refer to quran 3:190-191, 29:20. One term doesn't just describe the shape externally but also internally, & it's motion, as well as the forces on it and it's comparative size.

The egg is smooth, the Earth's surface is jagged/w/ major grooves in comparison to it's size. My point still remains, the scripture shoulda mentioned "the shape of the Earth is xxx without water, but yyy w/ water". But even then, it should have mentioned "the Earth is the shape of an almighty bumpy ostrich egg!".

@TurboDally If you go to 'quran corpus', you can see the terms and the root they're from. You can then look at chapter verse 79:30-32, you can then refer to the meanings used by that root if you refer to the arabic dictionaries eg 'project root list'. But even so... so what? What so special about the planet being declared as so? Are we to assume that we are going to crack open planets and fry them? Either way, an egg is not smooth.

My point still remains, if you're going to define the shape of the Earth being that without water, it's still not the shape of an ostrich egg because of all those relatively large bumps/canyons/depths which are normally covered by water. Well the koran could have mentioned the shape of the Earth without water being like that of an ostrich egg and a very bumpy one as that- but even that description is kinda pathetic. You're also the first Muslim of dozens interpreting in such a way.
