So far there has not been a Japanese World Champion in WWE. Antonio Inoki won the WWF Championship in the late 1970's but he was stripped of the title on the controversial call. Also Yokozuna was Samoan so he was not qualified to be a Japanese WWF Champion. Also guys like Funaki, Taka, Tajiri, Akio, Sakoda, and Yoshi Tatsu never get near the main event of the WWE.

TAKA was one of the most talented light heavyweights of the last twenty years, and he's better remembered for being badly dubbed on live TV than for being a great wrestler. (Tajiri didn't speak much English, and he got over.)

Mick Foley said in his book, if the WWE were based on talent, TAKA would be champion.

WWE didn't get better until the "Attitude" era (1998-99) when guys like Kane, Edge, Christian, Kurt Angle, the Radicalz (RIP Eddie) & Y2J finally arrived. Then when WCW & ECW both folded WWE got most of the talent from those orgs as well as then newcomers like Cena, Orton, Batista & MVP came.
