  • lol i scanned all these with my 3ds XD

  • haha I paused at 1:50 and scanned the QR code with my phone... it worked!!! XD

  • In Britain only the expensive over-priced smart phones have QR reader software. So, if you don't have one (as I don't), then they are useless really, I have one in my 3\ds, bt it only scans Mii codes - nothing else.

  • For some reason these things haven't really caught on in US, it's too bad, cause they're cool.

  • @blahk04 really? there all over the place in Canada man and i mean every where :/

  • Here in America you have to have smartphone in order for them to work which I think is stupid -_-

  • My Lord! It's really everywhere! xDD

  • wait a minute... we been having that.....

  • if you scan it on a 3ds it wont work

  • We have lots of QR codes here in the UK, do they have them in the USA too?

  • wtf they have qr codes everywhere? or not in the usa?

    i dont get it

and yes its frmo last year but here in europe those were normal back then aswell :S

  • Mostly just a video of a guy taking photo's of QR codes. You cannot take back the time you wasted watching this.

  • @rwhyelzag yea for real

  • i see that on my 3DS to those codes...realy interesting!

  • A store in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, USA has QR Code a They Store Sign an just soda drink machine are Getting Cell phone billing ready yup USA slow on Future Tech

  • In the U.S. the smart phones scan barcodes then Google search and compare prices around to see other businesses that might sell for cheaper, also allowing you to order online via your phone. Blackberrys, Androids, and iPhones have these features. Really come in handy. I use it a lot.

  • I collect Madonna sealed Japanese CDs. I was wondering what that was on the back of the obi...

  • cool

  • so THAT was what those strange un-understandable drawings were! I always wondered what was that, thanks for the info.

  • There are NONE of these in Canada. :(

  • never knew qr code existed since 1994.

  • What make and model is this phone? Is it just a standard NTT Docomo phone?

  • that technology is soo good and well made.. Look how unclearly u held the phone - at an angle and quite a distance away and it still captured it and gave results IMMEDIATLY!

  • whats a QR code is it a link 2 a website

  • @jeffsmixs its a string (text) converted into an image

  • Thanks for the post!

  • The QR code is actually in the USA now. I don't know how long it has been here but I know that you'll need a smart phone with the appropriate application to do it.

  • Thanks for this info. I was born and raised in Japan, but left there a looong time ago.

So I am at loss with this kind of stuff. Can you do a piece on cell phone use, such as texting (or is it e-mailing?) people are doing all over Japan?

  • they're starting with this in Norway 2, i have an app for it on my iphone^^ It worked on the QR codes on the video as well :D :P

  • COOOOOOL

  • thats so interesting... i wanted brazil to have more of those QR codes... all i found to date is some chips promotional stuff that we scan the codes on theyr web site for some prizes rafles... and some unique pc pets of some sort haha... thanks for the videos! im watching your channel almost every day since its SOOOO informative and i need all information about japan i can get...

  • @Houstof

    Cool!

    Thanks for watching!

  • Wow, that is brilliant.

  • lol i saw a comercial for mr.donuts. a lion had a donut for his mane, poped it off his head and ate it.

  • waaa that's super cool!

  • I've seen some articles that say that these QR codes are also used by stores to give out promotional codes on sale items or specials that they have on. Have you tried it?

  • thanks to show how its works, its soo amazing! thumbs up!!!

  • is it with only with cellphones? or anything with camera and internet? like a macbook with the isight camera?! thats really cool!

  • @zombiecarrot

as far as i know, it is only for handphone

  • cool i wish they could do that here in sweden.... japanese phones really are ahead of time iwth this especially ^^

  • @ScrewFearMe Most smartphones can read those (not just japanese ones). I have an HTC Desire and it has an application that can scan barcodes (EAN/UPC, ISBN and QR). I sometimes use it to scan the EAN or ISBN code and search for information about the product/book online. The problem is that... there are no QR codes to scan here in Europe. Most people don't know about them.

  • @covidiu okay...but i wonder how long they have been doing that in japan... cause we must have gotten it when the smartphones came along.....im guessing the japanese ppl had it for some time now

  • @ScrewFearMe QR codes was created by a subsidiary of Toyota in 1994 so im guessing shortly after that it was mainstream :) only certain smart phones(usually only droid and BB can download QR scanners to read the codes) :)

  • wow that's awesome!

  • That is freaking awesome! I always wondered what those were they are all over the Gothic and Lolita mooks I get.

  • Ah yes, I have a QR Bar code on my personal card, with all my contact details so that whoever I give it to, can just scan in the details. I've only just seen them on adverts for some movies in the newspapers here in WA. I'm sure they will be wide spread after the next 20 years or so, once they become obsolete in Japan :)

  • I was surpised it was able to scan it even off of the computer screen like that. Some one below mentioned it even can scan of off TVs! That's intense.

  • Thats amazing, is the internet free on phones there? I've noticed they tend to use Email over Texts. Something we don't do here,

  • Cool!!!

  • whaaaat!? I love this! So awesome!

  • That's pretty awsome.

  • yeah my friend from japan sent me a TV show and it was advertising the shows DVD and next to it on the screen was the QR code for the show... and it was cool to see

  • What a coincidence, I was just looking all over the place for this since I just got an iPhone. The have apps for it! :D Thank you!

  • Bet the droid and iphone can't do that. That's awsome.

  • @Chaz2306 There's apps for it. x3

  • @RayjeeHakubi Well... I stand corrected then.

  • @Chaz2306 xD lol

  • that is so cool. they also have that in america.

  • i actually see these alot of times on japanese websites, but hardly ever in the u.s. i don't know if it's because we have an actual barcode now or what, but it's refreshing to see a video actually explaining what they're meant to be used for.

  • sweet never heard of that.

  • This makes things easy but I can't help but wonder how much PR is lost in the fact the reader does not have to make any attempt on remembering the site address.... In the "old days" you had to try to remember the site all the way home and the chances are you didn't forget it next week either.

  • Hi from fellow Australians travelling Japan.. We are in Osaka and heading to Kyoto tomorrow. Just wanted to say we have been enjoying your video's annd they came in handy understanding the culture and some do's and dont's. Keep up the good work!!

    Loz and Nicole

  • @lozza150

I am glad they help ^_^

  • I never knew how to use this and I have lived in Japan for 2 years. Thanks

  • hey briilaint video as always mate. I wanted to ask how you make your own barcode. Plus how do you get the application to scan the barcode? many thanks

    Marafi

  • @marafi

I used a QR generator to make mine.

All the phones here have the readers built into them via the camera.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom

Soo lucky! Okay im going to live in japan! Keep it up with the videos they are brilliant!

  • no self promoting huh. lol! i loved it.

  • I thought you meant "queer code".

  • Very interesting. Though how do you get the application of scaning the barcode? I wish i had that on my phone.

  • Thats really cool. There use to be a pen that did something similar to that where you scan the barcode and you could go to the website.

  • Japan is so awesome -_-

  • I really like your videos they are so informative :)

  • @gothicmuffinofdoom

    Thank you!

  • It makes me wonder though.... is there any way to decipher these tings without the use of readers? A pattern or something. just a thought.

  • Holy shit. So that;s what those things are. But my phone does not have a code reader :(

  • Maybe also interesting to mention is the fact you can use your phone to board some planes in Japan. While I was in Japan they had 2 queues to board a plane to Tokyo at a small airport. One queue was for regular boarding with tickets(tourists) and another for people with a QR code on their cellphone. Just scan the image on from your cellphone on the machine and you're ready to go.

  • Also forgot to say they use it to save their high scores in arcades if I remember correctly. I saw a lot of japanese people scanning a QR code after a game of Taiko drum arcade game etc.

  • have all products, etc. QR Codes or just a few of them ? and do a lot of people scan them ?

  • @AnarUto44 In Japan , people started to know about QR code by TV ad in 2006.

So now most products have QR code.

QR code also replaced tickets which have magnet like airplane tickets.

  • on this website: qr(.)quel(.)jp/qmelo(.)php

you can also download melodys by using the QR code^^ nice!

  • that's cool

  • Cool idea to put that on all kinds of stuff. Matched with your cell phone application becomes a huge marketing advantage.

A place that I worked at had to put 2D bar codes like that on all GM packaging. The 2D bar code can hold a lot of information, much more than just a web address.

That is a very sweet idea.

  • Is there this barcode reader for samsung avila?

  • Ah so that's what those square thingies are for!

I was wondering what are these just the other day, cause i saw them on one yt channel called 'universalmusicjapan'. Thanks to you, now i know!

    Very cool video m8! :)

  • can i do it with my 4 years old nokia N72?

  • thanks.

  • So that's how those work. Thanks

  • oh!!! I saw this sqaure code quite frequently on the net and until now i realised it is called QR code from here...thx!!! actually after watching your clip i went online and search for such reader app for my iphone, it works!! But here in australia i dun see much of such code around so i cant try yet

  • that's ridiculously awesome!

  • :O...

ive seen those things... but i didnt know thats how u use it XD

  • I've been wondering what it was for a loooong time!XDDD

  • Is that a i,docomo or AU?

  • seen it before but never knew it was for scanning! thank you!

  • cool stuff

  • That is very cool. Thank you for the video.

    Like

  • The last time I went to Tokyo to visit family I noticed that in 'almost' anything had QR codes- magazines, manga and etc..

Sydney has this too. Telstra's supporting a lot of QR codes nowadays..

  • i never saw this nor even knew this!!

  • America needs to adopt this technology.

  • wow that is useful

  • the iphone has an app where u can "scan" barcodes and it will automatically look it up online for comparison shopping

  • So that's what those are - I thought it was my eyesight

  • QR codes can hold a surprising amount of data! I love coming across one and scanning it with my phone!

  • Holy crap, thats amazing and very clever, I wish our phones did something like that here in America and cool barcodes too!

  • Why not just put the url rather than a qr code?

  • THATS SO COOL!!!!!

  • yes, it is worth while going to tha website :)

  • Damn! i'll probably only see something like this in my country in about 30 years lol

  • nite.

  • Interesting, Thanks!

  • That's so cool! I knew abit about these codes but not how useful it is!

  • That is quite helpful. I don't beleive there are any American phones that do that, but it would be an awesome feature to have.

  • interesting! wow, the tech has certainly advanced :D

  • I've never seen that system before. It's very practical :)

  • love your videos!!!! keep it up can't w8 for the time i will also live in japan;)

  • its similar to blackberries scan adding to bbm .. but this is more useful

  • Pretty cool, seems like even the cheap phones in Japan have some pretty cool features. Just got a new phone that has a barcode reader (which I'm assuming is the US equivalent) and I thought that was some crazy new technology ;)

  • Sugue!

  • No, no we don't need that here (USA) we have very efficent stone tablets and chisel.

  • I've wondered for a long time what was that code about, now I know. Thanks! :)

  • other countries have internet on phones too btw lol

  • Must be nice living in a first world country. Oops, I need to get back to my treadmill to keep this computer on.

  • Thank you! I've been wondering about these. I live in Hawaii and I can often find them on Japanese things. What a neat invention.

  • Thats freaking awesome! Really wish they'd get that in Canada D:

  • wow, it's like you're in the future.

lol I can imagine Japan driving hover cars before everyone else :)

  • How much do you pay for mobile service: internet, texting, and voice?

  • This is interesting... I saw that you had a QR Code in photoshop, is that a plugin or a imported image?

    Arigatou gozaimasu!

  • I've seen those "qrcodes" on stuff even here is the US, but I had no idea what they were for. That's neat, thanks...though my phone doesn't have a barcode scanner. It has the internet though...

  • cool vids hope you keep on making em

  • @felix88ful

    Thanks!

I will keep making them as long as people keep watching them!

  • This is awesome!! We need something like this in the states.

  • This is amazing, I have never seen in U.S. I feel I live in a cave.

  • @109mytiger same here =] i live in australia, i feel like i'd just entered the 21st century lol

  • @109mytiger same here, i live in australia and it was only a few days ago till i saw this kinda barcode, and me and my friends were like....wtf?

  • That is a very cool idea! I can't believe we don't have something similar in the U.S.

  • ah, thats very cool. Its interesting that they have implemented the QR codes everywhere!

  • That is a really neat feature for every day life. I use my phone as a note taking device, usually by taking a picture of something related to what I'm taking a note of, which is awesome. But this sort of takes that to the next level. Very useful.

  • QRcode mean is Quick response code. Another name is "The second dimension bar code". It is already put to practical use new technology. It is possible complicated information than conventional bar code, Examlle is 4byte characteer infomation.

It is useing now mainly URL recogniton for cell phone.

  • AH thank you so much for this video! I've always wondered what the hell it was~so practical!

  • Wow. I've never seen those before.

  • Some of those codes are massive!

  • always wondered what the hell those things were.

  • Ah so that's what those are for. I see them all over in Japanese porn mags. My friend's Droid phone can read those.

  • ive seen that before and always wondered what it was

  • I have seen the QR codes on a few times here in the UK but they are not has popular as they are in Japan. I have a barcode scanner on my phone but it does not regconise QR codes. So I guess it has to be a special sort of software. I don't know why companies to do not make full use of the technology here in the UK.

  • @Theytoldmetodoit1 You'd be really surprised how behind we all are with technology in general. I certainly was when my dad said that not many people bother with the really awesome stuff yet.

  • mister donuts owns! my favorite is double chocolate :) wich is yous?

  • Thats pretty cool! Never knew that excisted... :)

  • Very interesting. Too bad they dont seem to be used as often in Canada. I see them around but my phone doesn't have any options like that.

  • that is so interesting!! :)

  • Man thats awesome

  • the QR scanner on my palm pre is garbage. takes forever to find the url. US needs to step it up!

  • Nice video.

    Thumbs up!

  • oh i think you should do some vlogs from japan!!

  • awesome video like always :D and that code thing seems very useful

  • This is very cool.

  • Thank you SO much about the information! =)

I've seen these QR codes on japanese web sites for such a long time and I've always wondered what they were.

  • that's cool, i want that!

  • that is very helpful

  • I actually laughed in surprise, I could not believe this for a second.

very interesting. Technology no Nihon, I almost forgot their technology is what led me to look into their language a while back already.

    Neat!

  • Britain has only really just got it last year, but its not on alot of products

  • Do you if I can make my own QR code?

  • @JapanChannelDcom I don't know maybe. I do remembered at one point there was a toy comercial about swapping codes in grocery stores.

  • I always wanted to know what's this thing. Thanks for sharing.

  • The bar code is not in bars like here in the US, I had a girl that sat in front of me in class in college that had a bar code tatooed on the back of her neck I bet the ingredients were toxic if you scaned it. Thanks

  • Again I'm amazed and speechless.

There's so much to learn every day.

    Thanks for the lesson. :D

  • wish we had that here in the US

  • ...no freaking way!
