  • What font did you use for the quote at 2:18 ?

  • wow, talk about an Apple fanboy. You do know there are other electronics companies out there right?

  • @downphoenix He was playing on a NES in the beginning. And since the NES is not an Apple product i guess he does know other companies.

  • @downphoenix I guess he was recording this video with a Apple DSLR too right?

  • @downphoenix go have a cry

  • @downphoenix And why do you Apple-haters always comment on Apple-related videos? Go away! Obviously, there are other electronics companies for you to loathe on!

  • @synjerome

Well seeing as how this is a video about Apple's failures, I'd say it's only obvious that those not in favor of Apple are going to comment.

  • The Philips CD-ROM drive shown wasn't merely similar to the PowerCD, it *was* the PowerCD!

The PowerCD was designed and manufactured by Philips. It even uses a Philips traverse assembly (the part containing the spindle motor and the optics).

  • You live with your parents.or your girlfriend.

  • 1:39

Any one else see what i see?

  • @colliebai ITS A WILLY SHAPE

  • @colliebai omg

  • YOU HAVE A LOT OF MACS thumbs up if you agree

  • @rand42Studios Go away.

  • This is why they made the iPod.

  • @xenocider64 dude u dont have any idea of the market and the competitors

  • werent all the apple failure products made when steve jobs was away

  • @whatthefudge2009

Nope. In fact, several glaring and HUGE failures happened while Jobs was at the helm. Remember the Apple III? An unmitigated disaster. The LISA? So bad that Jobs actually threw his entire development team under the bus rather than take responsibility for it. Perhaps the worst mistake was immediately after Jobs returned to Apple in the late 90s. He had a hidden agenda to push the NeXT platform and Rhapsody, not Mac. Everyone jumped ship for Windows, instead.

  • Apple Failures: iPhone 4S (They can't even release a damn iPhone 5.)

  • Apple without Steve Jobs is NOTHING! Steve Jobs was the heart of Apple inc.

  • @adrianfaisal96 Look at the stock prices. Dream on.

  • what the! i thought its playstation 1! lol

  • Reminds me of first iPod: "It's only 9 pounds, 8 inches think, and holds ELEVEN SONGS!"

  • But it was made by Apple, shouldn't it have been good?

    Lol...

  • 1:40 0_0

  • what is the model of the philips

  • You need an Apple IIgs. Apple's best system, too bad it was sandwiched in between the outdated but widespread Apple II series, and the overpriced, underpowered Macintosh. IIgs was a great machine for gaming, and it competed favorably with the Amiga and Atari ST in terms of graphics and sound.

  • Will you please do a Hockey Puck mouse Apple failure video?

  • Looks like an original PS1

  • You say "Apple learned from these failures to become the success it is today...", but it wasn't that which made Apple successful. Steve is what happened.

  • it means Apple wanna develop PowerCD but didn't release?

  • I thought I heard

    "Thane, it's time to go".....

I recently looked at smile.jpg too....

  • I never knew about this! This is so cool!

  • jajaja!!!!!!!

  • Good stuff. Thanks for the video. Very informative.

  • @InfinityDroid lol it was a joke

  • I wish companies made things like this again. I like chunkier electronics with large buttons or nobs that feel good when pressing them. Right now, everything is a tactile-less slate,

  • Maybe all the apple failures failed because they used the ugliest gray plastic they could find.

  • i remember when apple was just a fruit :/

  • You were playing mario in the beginning. How?, was it like an app or on the internet or what? Please tell

  • @southparkking1997 The Nintendo was connected to my Mac through a TV tuner.

  • @MattsMacintosh I have a question about that. Doesn't the TV tuner have a bit of lag between the NES and the actual game play?

  • @coffeeandsugar20 You need to turn off the buffering and instant video playback.

  • @MattsMacintosh Do you think the Apple logo should change again?

Let me know what you think!

  • @MattsMacintosh do you know which one specifically you bought? i've been looking for a good one

  • @MattsMacintosh can you tell me what TV tuner product you used? I'm going to be getting the parents a new Mac and this is one feature that I put into the family PC that will need to come over to the Mac.

  • @southparkking1997 You can get an app to play nes games with on mac

    actually you get a few

  • @southparkking1997 you can also use a computer emulator to play nes all the way through wii games, just look up jnes for nes

    znes for snes

    project64 for n64

you download the roms and whatnot, than run them in the emulator.

the only one i know that has a mac compatible counterpart though is ZNES

  • @southparkking1997 haven't you heard the saying "there's an app for that"

  • nice to see reviews for apple products thats fair and not some rant on why its the best or worst or how youd like to blow steve jobs dead body nice reviews man really interesting thanks for posting!

  • The videos filmed by you, are gorgeous, nice work matt

  • such and ugly color of plastic they chose

  • Should have talked about why it sucked, and why it failed, you just basically introduced it.

  • @Telekenesis123 I think I was pretty clear on why it failed at about 1:50 in the video. Also, I wouldn't say that it "sucked". It worked well for what it was designed to do.

  • @MattsMacintosh Well you called the video "Apple Failures" so I thought it would be an elaboration on why it was a failure.

  • @Telekenesis123 As I said in the video, it was overpriced in comparison to its competition- which it was nearly identical to. Apple was also stuttering into consumer electronics unprepared. I don't feel like there is any more elaboration required than that.

  • But i do give him credit for giving us the first ipod which is fucking awesome imo for music on the go.

  • And steve Jobs music sounds superior in the Cd or Vinyl record format its real and not thinned down tinny shit.

  • I honestly don't see what's wrong with that CD player.

  • Apple should sue Philips for having an almost identical product like the PowerCD! :P

  • i had the power pc from them. i can see why they are better today...

  • Most of apples "BAD" products were mad during the time when steve jobs wasnt there

  • Do you know, why apple made so miserable products in 90's? Because Steve Jobs wasn't in apple this time... R.I.P Steve....

  • @wojtas2524 Steve had many failures too.

  • @MasterArtist900 Name one

  • @duckiegoesquackie Macbook Air is a pice of shit.

  • @MasterArtist900 Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • @MasterArtist900 Macbook air is for people who travel alot

  • @duckiegoesquackie A good laptop is for people who travela lot. It's cheaper and better.

  • Both these products were launched when Steve Jobs was away from Apple.

  • @r2212xx imagine what bs theyr gonna bring out now since hes going to be away forever

  • Looks like a playstation for some reason in my eyes.

  • @superiormusicman me too

  • LOL! Now that Youtube just came out for Xbox I can now watch Apple vids on a MS product! :D

  • The days when i watched youtube vids on a COMPUTER. Now it just makes u feel old to do so.

  • The thee music is awesome!!!

  • hi john sculley you failed as apple ceo in the 90s.

  • it looks like a playstation 1 with an apple logo on it...

  • @vaghoust not really. mayve more like the psone

  • @vaghoust Looks like apple has their next lawsuit.

  • LOL!

  • Is that a Radial pin Cam lock @ 1:22 , WTF is that for?

  • Haha, fantastic.

  • 2:56? 256? 256KB?

  • Wait i realy like the G4.

  • show off :)

  • It looks like a PS1.

  • HI!

  • This is a classic example of what happened when Apple kicked out Steve Jobs and they lost their focus. THEN when Steve returned in 1998 he shut down all those crappy products and got back on what was important.

  • this just proves that when you make mistakes that greater things will come of it or something like that.

  • I think it looks like a Nintendo GameCube.

  • It looks like a Sega Dreamcast from the top.

  • @merritt2014 more like a ps1

  • WHAT ABOUT APPLES VIDEO GAME SYSTEM.

  • I have one of these, I had it hooked up to my TV to play PhotoCD's. Later I used it as a CDROM for my NeXT Cube.

  • I just watched a couple of your vids, they are awesome! Definitely subscribed!

  • Please, god, focus. On something! Focus your damn camera. That was painful. Just because you discovered the aperture ring on your new camera doesn't mean you need to over use it in each and every single shot. But if you insist on doing so, at least find 1 thing to focus on!

  • @raskol666 lol how was he changing the aperture in every shot? I don't think you quite understand cameras.

  • @SpenserRoger I didn't mean he was changing the aperture, obviously. I meant what I said. Focus. Everybody has a DSLR now. Just because you can do something doesn't mean it needs to be done all the time. It's like the old days of shaky quicktakes to make things look cool and edgy. We get it, you have an HD DSLR with manual focus and f-stop to make blurry backgrounds. Great. It's a youtube video. Not Cannes.

  • @raskoldorks Man, what. He doesn't have expensive studio lighting-- as u said, it's not tv -- so when he has close shots especially moving ones showing details, he has to be really stepped down on the aperture, which reduces the depth of field and increases what is out of focus. To make up for this he does a good of racking and pulling and even pauses. He uses the effect also mostly to highlight what he's talking about. Real criticism of this video is the audio->lack of popping filter

  • @raskol666 Its called "racking" or "pulling" focus... something that people that make good looking videos do all the time. It was nothing to do with the aperture ring, except it being set to a lower f-number. You clearly know nothing about cameras or making ascetically interesting videos- in fact your one upload is a shaking cam, boring, and overall terrible shot.

  • @GoingBackToCheney The video I posted was shot with an iPhone3. I assume. So who cares what it looks like. My point is that the video above over-uses a "gimmick" or a common technique making a video that is mostly out of focus because of a severely narrow focal range. The result is "interesting" yes. It's also extremely irritating to watch. Especially if you're trying to examine the details. Imagine watching this on TV and not having a pause button. And Cheney is the spawn of Satan.

  • Hmm Its looks like the first generation of playtation..

  • i see a dick in 1:41

  • If Steve Jobs was there, he would have made this 1 inch thin and have no buttons at all.

  • That was because Steve Jobs wasn't in Apple at the time.

  • That was when Steve got kicked out of Apple so they had to kiss his ass to bring him back, WHEN he got back he showed them how to create a product like the Ipod!!!! :P

  • lol if you mom says its time to go, its not time to review an item!

  • This is the crap they where making when Jobs left

  • I want one!

  • the call that portable...lol

  • I have a Aiwa Boom Box that loads the same way, you put the CD in the door and then close it to load the CD.

  • You always say OK when the wife says it's time to go?

  • i would like to see apple try the console market again.

  • but the iphone isnt that great. Its like they took steps back.

  • Love this vid. I still remember when I was little I wanted to buy a cd player like that at Target. I never got one 

  • Nice vid. I completely forgot about the PowerCD. And probably for good reason too. LOL

  • i quite like apple's failures; there kinda less big-headed and snobby

  • it kinda looks a ps1 slim :\

  • @2020man996 Nope, its an actual Nintendo hooked into the iMac via an Elgato TV tuner.

  • @MattsMacintosh oops I'm sorry.

  • @2020man996 and by the way, the patents on the NES have expired so it isnt illegal

  • @taylorhadley pretty sure not. Patents expire much later than 30 years...

  • @2020man996 emulating is legal if the game is no longer in production

  • @geovanni05 No it isn't because the game is still copyrighted and Nintendo still owns the copyright to the game. Care to bring up any more ancient arguments?......

  • @2020man996 "Circumventing copy protection to access legitimately purchased software because the company refuses to support the old hardware is LEGAL." enough for you? peace.

  • @geovanni05 uhh where did you pull that quote out of? Your ass?

  • @geovanni05 No it isn't because the game is still copyrighted and Nintendo still owns the copyright to the game. Care to bring up any more ancient arguments?......

  • @geovanni05 Nope. Nintendo still owns the copyright.

  • @geovanni05 No it isn't because Nintendo still owns the copyright.

  • @2020man996 It's not illegal if you own the actual game.

  • @TheOdysseyKid Yes sherlock had you read the other comments you would've realized I've been proven wrong earlier and that it's actually PiP with an 'Elgato TV Tuner' and that he actually DOES own the damn cartridge, as @MattsMacintosh said. Sheesh. F- Off.

  • How did you play NES on the iMac? :O

  • I've always found these products that had a mix of round sides and flat sides always a confusing mix. This **HAS** to be from the 90's right?

  • thank god for youtube suggestions, subbed!

  • @theworldisnotmine Awesome. Glad you like my videos!

  • @MattsMacintosh same as what @theworldisnotmine said

  • @MattsMacintosh Did you go to mcdonalds after vthis video?

  • Wow, seriously impressive collection! I think my favourite is the Cube though ;)

  • Man, Apple was nothing until all the ipod.

  • A good apple failure would be the Apple Bandai Pippin

  • @applerules100 Yea I see it. Everybody look at the side of the dock at 1:40. lol.

  • What Consoles Dow U Have?

  • knock off of playstation ... cheap apple.....cheap...

  • @1994toyotasupra ummm...this came out before Playstation. So, cheap Sony...cheap....

  • @1994toyotasupra Are you creazy? That is a NES! It was just moded!

  • you almost cant see the logo!

  • ....so what episode will the ipad be in this series

  • @pettyfan45 One of the most successful consumer electronics of all time? I don't think it'll make this list. If I ever make an "Apple Mega Successes" list I'll be sure to include, though.

  • was i the only one to have a perverted thought at 1:42 ?

  • DUUUUDE!! I HAAAVE ONE!!!

  • ha ha ha, good intro, so weird to see the comparison in size with the current media players

  • it looks like a ps1

  • @TheBioman12 I'm using the Mac as a monitor for the Nintendo.

  • @MattsMacintosh Can you please tell me how you were able to use your Mac as a monitor for your Nintendo? Is it possible on a MacBook Pro? I've been looking for ages to do something like that. Thanks!

  • @sounddie I use a TV tuner called the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid (there are others out there as well). It basically converts TV signals to USB.

  • @MattsMacintosh I know you're into cool gadgets, but couldn't you just use a Nintendo emulator plus a gamepad? Not nearly as fun, but a lot more practical ha ha. Well, never mind. 'Cause it's not like you use it for ONLY Nintendo to Mac screen...right? ha ha

  • There was an iPhone 4.

  • Commercial failure = uber collectible (i.e., the TAM)

  • make some more videos on apple failure.......

  • what was the case on ur iphone 4?

  • cool intro bit

  • So jealous over the amount of Apple stuff you have!!

  • It's twice as thick as my MacBook Pro!
