  • Where do you download the Flam3 script? I can't find it...

  • CIGARETTE SMOKE! EEEEEEEKKK!! (LMAO)

  • If you think that was impressive (and it was), check out the fractals made by the Electric Sheep screensaver.

  • how long did this take to render!?

  • @nokineeded Approx 2 frames per minute, so it took about 12 days in total, but not all in one go. I created/rendered it in 2-5000 frame blocks.

  • This is very nice. I've been playing with fractal flames too and rendering them in high def. It takes forever, but is well worth the effort.

  • So you are constantly zoom in?

  • No - not zooming in at all.

  • Thank you so much for your help! I really apreciate it :)

I discovered that if you use vista you can rightclick on the folder holding down the SHIFT key and you'll be able to choose "Open Command Window Here".

  • You're welcome. I didn't know that. Thanks for letting me (and others) know.

  • Stupid question:

How do I "Open a Command Prompt at the location of the Flam3 program"?

  • 2 ways - the easy way - download and install the PowerToy from Microsoft called Command Prompt Here (google it) - once installed, right-click on your flam3 folder and select Open Command Window Here.

Alternatively, you could follow the link at that point in my tutorial which will give you instructions.

  • Thanks for the tutorial! First one I've read that has worked for me so far.

Though I was a little stunned at how damn long this takes. I tried with quality 100, a 3 image animation and it's now rendering almost 250 frames, which is going to take nearly 8 hours lol.

I can only imagine how long it took you to do 35,000.

  • Hi. You're welcome. Just wondering.. do you need to use Quality = 100? I never used more than 50. Fine if you do, but that will slow things down. Also, the more you're zoomed in, the slower things will be. How long is each frame taking? Most of mine took no more than 2 minutes per frame.

  • Yeah i've since reduced it to 50... which has pretty much cut each render down to about 45 seconds which is more reasonable.

  • at 1.09 it looks like the shape of a woman in the centre. I don't understand what this is but it looks amazing.

  • i seriously dont see what the hype is...

  • Would be cool with music. It doesn't work to well on my computer though.

  • Please explain:

Is this actually a fractal (product of some sort of iterative formula) or just a really neat chaotic looking animation?

  • Needs some relaxing music and you have a meditative video!

  • just play your own music while its playing

  • ooh..

  • Stunning!!!!!!!

  • smoke grass and see the video its the most amaizing thing in the life

  • pfff...

  • cool!!!..awesome....gorgeous!!

  • Must have taken a lot of rendering time.

  • Like.. DAYS!

  • Awesome vids..Im just missing some music :)

  • this is from the electric sheep screensaver I use it as my default screensaver it is so beautiful to watch it morph and change and its completely free to download flame fractals are awesome.

  • No it's not, it's from Apophysis.

  • the electric sheep uses and is apophyysis and its a global network feeding different sheep into the program

  • that's gorgeous man ! .....

  • That's brill! :O x

  • This thing is gorgeous!

  • thanks !

  • someone should use the itunes sdk to generate output to read back into aphophysis... all the animations look like clockworks..

  • I followed the tutorial, and I got down to the part where you have to open command prompt. I can't figure what exactly to open.

  • If only my tutorial made the 'command prompt' section a clickable link which takes you to a website explaining all about command prompts... oh, wait a minute.... it does ;-)

  • I saw that link and it helped me a little, but whenever I try it I get a message saying "is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

  • What that's telling you is that it can't find the program that you're trying to run. There are a few ways to solve this, but if you don't want to learn command-line navigation, you could install the Microsoft "Open Command Window Here" Powertoy (google for it) - then just right-click on your Flam3 folder, and choose 'Open Command Window Here'. Typing your commands should then work fine. Good luck.

  • How do you make animated flames? I can only make non-animated D: Your fractal rules!

  • Reminiscent of matter collapse, how beautiful!

  • Hi,

Ive been trying to use expers scripts and flam 3 to render animations like this and noticed you said you created a short tutorial on how to do so from your comments. I cant see it in your movies, any chance of a link?

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Tutorial link now in 'more info' section of this video. Hope it works for you - been a while since I wrote it.

  • I use a lot of the single frame shots for stuff like this as my PC desktop background... but I wish I had this for a screen saver. OH! Or an awesome media visualization!

  • for a second there i wondered what type of godly computer you had to animate that all in real time...

what's interesting is the waves variation looks very 3D when animated

  • this reminds me of a deep sea creature that dazzles it's prey into a mesmerized daze until it instantly striked and consumes it's victim. I'm backing up as I watch...

  • is there a video that actually shows how the make this in apophisis i really want to learn but i just dont find the information

  • That was AMAZINGLY beautifal. It'd be even better with the song "The Prayer" by Electric Universe. Psychedelic Trance, ftw. 5 stars~

  • hi, this video is really awesome.

reminds me on how our universe works...

I can provide you a Server Farm for rendering it in HD-Quality and I really like to do this for you.

we have 8 Servers with 4 3ghz cpu's each. I can use these Servers 12 Hours every day + full Weekend.

    contact me via skype: "fabian.orangeit"

  • Can I get this as a screen saver? LOL No I'm serious. This would be an awesome screen saver.

  • Yeah, it would be great, but it takes like one day to render this video. There's no way to view it in real time.

  • try Mozilla's download helper. I can save this vid in like 2 minutes.

  • Put music on this and will be great

  • 35000 frames. Do you have a render farm??

  • No, just a 3500 Athlon. Each of these sections would be rendered over a few days, mainly over night. I think it only took approx 2-3 minutes per PAL resolution frame. Generally there'd be 6000 frames per section, or thereabouts.

  • software?

  • jfrusciantetube: Good question about Blender. I'm not really sure why I used it now, other than I thought it'd be nice to have each fractal existing as a 'movie' in a 3D world and move between them.

  • Very nice.

    Why final compilation with bender?

  • how did you do that?

  • It would be so cool if this could be projected in REAL 3d using a holograph projector! They actually exist, so it would be possible!

  • Nice :)

Ive also done some fractal inspired animation. Inspired By Terrence Mckenna & Music by Entheogenic.

  • how nice if you could move the center too in rethemic motion.

    but this is so great

  • this would make the sickest screen saver!

  • There is such a screen saver, it's called Electric Sheep or something. Google it.

  • Wow, that is phenomenal! Thanks so much for posting.

  • how beautiful is that :)

  • its nice, but no music to trip with

  • Damn man, that's nice! Must have taken a helluva long time to render. Hell, takes my POS 10 minutes just to render 1 frame at good quality and a nice large size.

  • Nice vid, but I couldn't get your tutorial to work dude :(

  • Why not? What was the problem? Bigceef

  • Hi, I've put together a short tutorial on the technique I used to make this video. Hopefully it will help those of you who are having difficulties animationg your flam fractals. Visit my site (link is in my profile) - look in the Tutorials section, where you'll find 'Flame Fractal Tutorial'. Hope it helps.

  • how do you render this way? all i can do r stills...

  • Hi. Glad you like my flame animations. I'll try to post a tutorial soon, if this would help. Bigceef

  • check for flam3

  • i've been trying to make this gorgeous things since a while now...i work with apophysis but im sure you heard about some people with troubles int the rendering this fractal in flame...im one of those people...i study the tutorials of biomorphica but i cant get it to render the proper way, i do everything by the book but at the end,it doesnt make the render...do you know any other way to render this apophysis?

  • Karl Sims would be proud

  • great flame animation- must have took some time to render!

  • hello, I work with apophysis for do fractalsiamges but i want export the fractal as video not as image. When i do a preview of the fractal i can see a video so I want his video!!!! i can export it????
