  • A good video! But why no mention of Highland English and Hebridean English? Seeing as the video is entitled "Scottish Accents" and not the "Scots language"

  • Someone needs to make a Soap MacTavish voice compilation. Kevin McKidd is the coolest scotts man.

  • i live in the t

  • Sometimes it sounds like English spoken by Poles or Russians, generally people from eastern Europe. I do know what I'm talking about - I'm Pole ;)

  • The r's are pronounced so clear in the Scottish accents. It almost makes me think that this variety of English is the kind that ought to be taught to second language learners, rather than the "English English" variant.

  • @Ohaiku91 Or the 'American standard' for that matter.

  • want to move to scotland

  • scotland is the best!!!!!!!

    From the USA

  • Scotland fucking rocks! :D

    Greetings from Poland

  • there or here in the states. I love the country, I love the people and I love the history. If I had the opportunity, I would probably move to Scotland and be completely at home with the choice. I think that one reason I could do that is because of the strong connection the United States has with Scotland and how many Americans of Scottish ancestry, myself included, relish that connection and our ancestry. I see nothing wrong in that at all. Alba gu Brath.

  • Now, I could go around calling myself a Scottish American or an American person of Scottish descent but that seems a bit much to me. I've been to Scotland several times and will go again and take my girls to Tarbet so that they can get a sense of where they come from. I think that's important. I don't pay much mind to the ones who tell me I am wrong to be proud of my Scottish roots and just enjoy my time there and take it all in. When it comes down to it, Scotland is a part of me, whether I am

  • I personally love Scotland and the people but I'm biased, my Father was very proud of his Scottish heritage and I was raised hearing about Scotland and growing up with that so there you go, lol. If there is one thing you can count on, it's that idiots have no nationality, they're universal, lol. I know I take knocks sometime from Scots who are of the "rabid nationalist" variety because to them, I am not Scottish. I am a Knox, my family originally came from Scotland and that's why I know, lol.

  • Which accent has the voice from the vid ?

  • Visiting from the U.S. and currently sitting in the Central Library in Edinburgh. It's true, the Scots don't seem to dislike any foreigners, excepting maybe the English. :)

  • @JonTheBassist talk to us !

  • I'm looking for someone who can TRULY speak Scottish Gaelic and teach me how to pronounce some terms! I'm portraying a Scottish mountain climber in an indie film, and I don't want to come across as a stereotype. If you can speak it, please message me. Thank you!

  • I'm American and visited Scotland last fall. The people were absolutely wonderful!

  • Pronunciation of Kirkcudbright is like "Kir-koobry"

  • Quick side question..... What's the name of the tune this video opens with. I like it.

  • The Highlands rock! To hell with those bloody Lowlanders!

  • @InuyashaLuver84 Fuck you sheepshagger ;) Mon the lowlands!!!

  • Scottish Accent - "I Just Sat There, Thinking."

  • heck yeah! tartanic!

  • IT'S KIRKOOBRAY!! (for Kirkcudbright)... coming from someone fae Wigtownshire

  • I adore the lovely Scottish accent and their beautiful songs!

  • Amazing accent, adorable people! I Love Scotland :)

  • i love how they speak like dwarfs from wow ^^

  • Basically...Its English, but Scotland want their own language. So call it Scottish English.

  • @costateguise We have our own language, in fact we have three:

    1. Scots Gaelic

    2. Lowland Scots (a west-germanic language)

    3. Shetlandic

  • @wibblegorm lol ....yeah ok

  • @costateguise thats wrong actually. since scotland originally spoke other language(s), as the English language grew in importance it evolved to form a hybrid form of English.

  • Im german....and i love scotland :D

  • Don't know why, but Scottish accent reminds me of my Russian one...

  • please tell me the name of the song there in the beginning. i love it. need to know where to get it in good quality :-)

  • Scottish have no problems with foreign people, why would we when a lot of our scottish diasporia are spread all over the world.

  • Um our view on foreigners.....i looovee foreigners but Neds dont.

Anybody wanna chat then add on facebook

    Shadowkeeper1@hotmail.co.uk

  • I like Scottish accents, when I heard them for the first time, I was shocked and amazed that some sounds were so similar to my native language, especially rolled R's and flat a's ( in back, map, etc..) . I've heard that Inverness accents are quite neutral sounding. Could anyone confirm this?

  • what do Scots actually think bout people that are from Scottish descent?? I know I am from there, but never got the chnce to ask my grandfather and now he's dead.. I wanna travel through the country to rediscover my roots :)

  • because Aussies and Americans, as well as New Zealand, Ireland etc, Scots have easy communication as English is our first language. In my opinion Canadian, American, Australian, I love because yous sound so different, it's wonderful hearing yous talk and I enjoy it. We have Aussies that work here of course in bars etc in town and restaurants, doesn't matter if it's a lassie or a guy, the accents I have adoration for. Would a typical Scot take to an Aussie or American? Without doubt ;)

  • I can only give you my view as a Scot, and a Glaswegian. We're a small nation that has a lot of love and respect for what is outside our grounds. We're a very proud nation of our heritage, the history surrounding us, what we stood for, thus most Scots tend to prefer being known as 'Scottish'. Not all however. Our view on foreigners in general? We love foreigners, probably partly why we're such a friendly nation...

  • I love the Scottish accent. :)

  • I've never actually been to Scotland, I'm Australian myself. I lived in Arizona for a little amount of time but it was nice. Do the Scotts have a view on us Aussies?

  • @darcscorpion Yes....we envy your weather haha

  • I'm italian and I love scottish accent, really. It's so wonderful...

  • @SnarkedGirl Scotland v Italy at hampden 2006 - all I can say is, when Italians come here, it's the friendliest atmosphere you could ever have, we have a lot of admiration for Italy, a very historic nation and is part of us.

  • Quite informational but if I can make a suggestion? Use a pop filter with your voice overs to cut down on the hissing of your S sounds and puffing of your P sounds. You can actually make one inexpensively with some nylon, a sewing wheel and thick copper cable or similar material that is bendable but can hold it's shape.

I just figured I give you this tip when I saw that you use Pinnacle Studio yourself.

  • Oh and as for the scenery? It's something pictures and video cannot sum up, people that come here though will remember it largely for it's people, and if any trouble, ignore, I doubt there will be, but there are MANY Scots like myself that love American people. Not all Americans are up themselves ignorant, I know this for sure. One other thing, Americans with Scots heritage have every damn right to be just as proud to call themselves Scots as we are, just look at the quote by Woodrow Wilson ;)

  • Take my word for it, there's quite a number of Americans that live here in Glasgow, don't know any personally, but west end. Americans in general that come here will be made to feel very welcome as anyone would, you are not singled out. Sure you get your ignorant type, but you get that everywhere. If it weren't for a sea's distance apart, I'd even marry an American lassie lol and believe me, many Scots guys would agree.

  • Yeah, I love the music, too...

  • i love the music...

  • Scottish is a nice accent, but this guy who speaks first has an annoying voice. He sounds like a rich Scot.

  • lol I most definitely would welsee xx ;)

  • I love the Scottish! I'm visiting Scotland in a few months. I can't wait!

  • i love scotland as a country as a national football team and league and as an accent. you cannae hit me

  • what the crap is that noise in the back ground? other than that... like it

  • @JoyousinJesus Och aye!...Me too! ;)

  • First pic is the old man of Storr, I live near there. :D

  • Scotissh accent is so so sexy, Im from a mediteraean country but I was living in Edinburgh for a while...

  • Scottish accents are so sexyxD

  • I think I have every right, I'm 26 and not some troubled youth that has his pants in a twist. Sure, not all American people are perfect, some maybe arrogant, but that does not give a right to tar that on a whole nation. And the fact there are a LOT of Scots out there like myself, I gave me the decision to speak out. Scots love America. May it also be noted they are made to feel welcome like any other country. It's our youth and people like you that give us a bad name.

  • Scottish people don't hate their foreigners, if that was the case why do they all go away from Scotland wanting to come back mainly because of the people. I find it sad that yes, some Scots in my country tar Americans all with the one brush just because they met some uneducated twat on MySpace that knows next to nothing. Bottom line is, you American people will always be welcome here, we love your country and your people, and we have a strong connection due to history.

  • @ScottMcK9 What the fk are you saying ???????we we we,dont think you have the right to decide what WE like..JEEZ!!!!

  • @ScottMcK9 marry me?

  • @ScottMcK9 If scots (and I am one) have a major problem its that they tend to be a bit parochial, believe their own myths about scotland , and believe America is actually the way its portrayed in the media , when infact its a land of people driving about aimlessly shopping and working too much, trying to find something/anything that will stop them from feeling like they are sleepwalking through life. I live there, nothing against Americans at all , I just find it all a bit empty maybe too new.

  • @ScottMcK9 Yes, we do have a strong connection with Scotland. It took many people from the U.K. to make America, and for that, I for one am grateful. Can't wait to visit Scotland one day.

  • @Nikisright SAME HERE!! im also an american from Texas and i have a friend who lives in stornoway scotland. going to scotland seems like a dream for me. i cant wait to visit there someday! :D

  • @ScottMcK9 im an american from Texas, and i totally agree with you* im glad to hear you feel the same way as i. :D i hope to visit scotland someday! i have a friend who lives in stornoway actually. i defiantely plan on going to scotland in the near future. it has always been a dream goal of mine and i cant wait till the day i get to leave america and visit here* it just looks totally amazing! :)

  • @ScottMcK9 as an american with distant roots from scotland, your statement means alot. Most europeans dont realize this, but a lot of americans have a subtle fascination with you

  • @ScottMcK9

Well good to know, because Id love to visit!

  • @ScottMcK9

My family left Scotland in the 1600's to move to America, but when I went there in 2007, it felt like I had gone home. They were some of the friendliest people I've ever met in the world.

God bless Scotland. My home away from home.

  • @USN1985 I think that's how I'd partially feel if I was to go to America, Americans seem to love us Scots especially for accent etc, and like stated even by yourself, a lot of our people were forced to leave their land behind and landed in America. I'm happy of course that you had a pleasant welcome when you were here in 2007, it's living proof and why am proud to be a Scot.

  • @ScottMcK9 Do you know this MySpace user?

Relevant to the title, my surname originates from your land and I try to speak in other accents besides my native accent, American. I sometimes get confused whether one accent I try is German, Irish, Scottish, or a combination of 2 or all 3 of the accents.

  • @DeadsoulXtreme A scot could better judge, listening to proper Scots and replicating is best mate. As for MySpace, it just had a trend of arseholes on the Forums. Don't know if you've noticed, but you find people when they go on the internet tend to turn into wee shits at times lol

  • @ScottMcK9 I love Scotland and your people as well. I don't know much about the history between Scotland and America except that we were enemies in the American Revolution, but it is comforting to hear that Americans are appreciated by the Scottish, and the Scottish are appreciated by Americans. You too will always be welcome here. God bless.

  • @ScottMcK9 thats great because I am planning on moving to Glasgow for Law school once I get my college degree :D

  • @and12387 You are moving here bud? :)

Well you'll find it hard in terms of jobs anywhere in this world, especially with the economy, but after your degree, coming here for law school, you'll love it :) especially if it's Glasgow! :)

  • @ScottMcK9 I can't wait lol. I hear Scotland has some of the best law shools in the world. Plus, the scenery is just breath taking :)

  • @and12387 The scenery is up north :) as for Law school? I wouldn't know too much on that of course :) I know that engineering, that Strathclyde University is number one in Britain for that however :) but yeah, you do have good Universities and stuff like that here in Scotland.

  • @ScottMcK9 ah, thanks for the information :) I still can't wait lol

  • @ScottMcK9 Thank you....a few nasties always ruin it for everyone else....American and non-Americans alike..

  • @willow7233 Pretty much the case, it's why I never let those certain idiots overshadow my thought upon the American people in general. I recently had one claiming he was insulted in Scotland and had nothing but hatred for our people, I know for a fact all that is complete bull, because any American I have came across that have been here, say they love it largely because our people are friendly. I know myself what it's like to have stereotypes against us and of course is never fair judgement.

  • Why doesn't Kirsty Hume have an accent? she is Scottish. If she tried to lose her dialect that is a shame, because these accents are fabulous.

  • i just loooove the scots^^ Love from sweden

  • @JoyousinJesus I hope you're enjoying it there. I found Scots to be rather friendly folk when I was in Stirling.

  • For crying out loud, they are all a stone's throw from each other and they speak with such variety!

  • I love the scots

  • i canny hear ma accent :L:)

  • now this is pure scottish im half scottish and half american

  • i find over all scots people are very welcoming and friendly though no matter where you are from anywhere in the planet we do not do arrogance( pointing no fingers at anyone in particular) but i have noticed that even 3 towns away where i grew up had a differnt style of accent or types of words used, for example in stead of "says I " while replying to story in parts of ayrshire is pronouned "sii "

hard to explain really but hey im a mix of wets coast and fife .lol

  • its called Scots

  • Hi man, whats the name of the track at the start?

  • Comment removed

  • Well I have to ask - Why do people have to generalise other people's nationalities like that?

  • im scottish and i dont hate anyone

  • @inturn23 Your talkin pish mate, we get lots of americans over here researching there ancestry, we love having you folks over here back in the Auld Country :) (you have probably been talking to some NEDS)

  • @Oxgangs1966 hehe, thank you. What's a NED?

  • non-educated delinquent afaik, but hey you can always look it up yourself ;)

  • @inturn23 Non Educated Delinquent. The english version is a Chav.

  • @Thingsdonthavetoend thank you for clearing that up[.

  • @inturn23 I'm Scottish, and this is a very common misconception. In fact, it's a stereotype. I've got plenty of friends from America, and other places in the world, and I don't hate anyone, let alone whole countries of people.

  • @inturn23 I am born and bred and marrying an American. So your info is a bit wrong! It's pretty much England we don't get along with!

  • @inturn23 Where did you get that idea from? Of course not!

  • @tcm1707 I went into a Scottish chatroom and was attached just for stating where I live And a person in that chatroom said " We hate Americans". It was just so unfair and narrow. But I am glad to hear that it is not 100% true.

  • @inturn23 Scottish are generally very welcoming of other countries. Not sure where you get this belief we hate americans! Its not true! How can anyone hate a whole population without meeting them individually?

  • @rowanrockhopper2 I went into a Scottish chatroom and was attached verbally just for stating my location. A member of that chat wrote in CAP letters "WE HATE AMERICANS. YOUR KIND IS NOT WELCOMED HERE." It made me so made and I just couldn't understand such a nasty narrow thing. Thank you for clearifing that. At least I know it is not 100% true.

  • @inturn23 It could be he was an englishman pretending to be scottish. :P joking joking. I can assure you Its not even 0.01% true. That guy was just one sour grape.

  • @inturn23 no its the irish imagrants who your thinking of

  • @inturn23 we're not aggressive at all. I'm assuming you've not met very many Scottish people.

  • @StuartHaitchXbox True. I need to meet more Scotts. You have a nice culture.

  • @inturn23

    i dont!

  • @inturn23

we do not hate everyone. that's a stereotype and actually very offensive to us! We are just very proud of our country, and love our people, but we don't hate anyone!(except some might hate the english but that is for obvious historical reasons)

  • @inturn23

How do Scots hate Americans? first av heard ae it... English on tha other hon, thats a different story hahaha :p

  • @TheCatholicnproud You have somehow been hindered clear. Having truble understanding what you mean by "ae" and 'hon." by thank you for the reply.

  • @inturn23

ae means of.. hon means hand ;)

  • @inturn23 never really heard them hate everyone else except for Britain i know they hate. but France does the same thing

  • @inturn23 We're not hateful. We just find it funny genrally, particuarly agenst the english. So aye, relax we don't hate a soul till we at least have a reason haha.

  • @inturn23 Hating America because....well... the USA has many problems (even though the rest of the world does too)

And Scotts are BARBARIC HIGHLANDERS HURRRHH!!!

And are annoyed because all the clans were killed off? Im not sure C:

  • @inturn23

The whole world hates americans? You sould get used to it finally??

  • @oldfurniture The whole world? Who the fuck said anything about the whole world, you stupid retard. Learn how to read and p[ay attention to comments CORRECTLY Oh and on top of that, learn how to spell "You sould get used to it?" (sould) is not a world, idiot. Go back to school and learn English before you decide to bother me. Halt Ihr Mund, Nutte.

  • Comment removed

  • @inturn23 I am not a Scott, but Scots are amongst the most warm and genuine people you will ever come across!

  • @ujmi I know that now. That is an old comment I left a while back. The many replies I have received tell me the same thing, that Scottish people are very welcoming. An old friend of mine who visited Scotland had a bad experience there and told me about it. I guess he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

  • @inturn23 i dont actually hate americans, i like to take the piss outta yas, its ya government i hate, much like the english government, altho i hate the english people as well. as a catholic and as a highlander my ancestors have been starved raped and muredered at the hands of the english and scottish traitors.

  • @gaelscot You can't hate the English (present day citizens in England) for something that happened in the past that these present day people have nothing to do with. That just makes you weak & narrow minded, passive, & childish. And a smart, clever person does not have to blame Scotland for producing people with that mentality. Just you, who is making Scotland look bad. Do you really want to be that way? But thanks for the feed back.

  • @gaelscot Many of us Americans hate our government as well, but you shouldn't want to "take the piss outta us" it isn't fair to judge all Americans by the people who run this country. Anyway, love ta all in Scotland.

  • @aclark8888 hahaha me 2 lol

  • GOD BLESS SCOTLAND!!!!

    Regards from Argentina!

  • @vanescotland Argentina must be fun to live in.
