I work as a loco maintainer for BHP Billiton in Australia and we are suppose to have the last 8 running over the world here, all i can say are they are a bucket of crap!!
good catch on that AC60 i got a few pics of a couple AC60-44,now that i look at them they dont have the dual exhaust stacks like the true AC60 units, one more question.. they are twin turbocharged, right?that explains the split exhaust and those geeps, look real fine, they are more heritage(original)than the SD70ACe's,which were first UP locos, then renumber and painted, even the new IAIS 513 its more of a heritage unit since its first paint is the rock island 50's scheme.thats only my opinion thank u
Those aren't heritage locomotives. UP was just too cheap to paint them. The real heritage units look brand new. Also, how do you know there is a 6000HP in the GE? As far as I know, there are no remaining ones. They kept snapping crankshafts.
Check the dual exhaust stacks at the top. C6044AC don't have them. There are still a few AC6000's in service, both UP and CSX. I have videos of other AC6000's I've posted before this.
@CSXAC6000CW: There are less than a dozen left of the 6000 hp for the UP. One by one, they are being replaced with FDL 4400hp prime movers. Just caught CSXT 5001 in the Pacific Northwest recently.
Their still is ac6000 that have the 6000hp engine...only like 75 to 80 left. They all have the 75xx numbers... 70xx 73xx have the 4400hp engine it in...I work for union pacific... The c60ac is one powerful engine. Most of the motors had problems with thin walls on the block and electrical fires.. A few broken cranks.
what he meant is that they are realll engines from the mergers so hes right to be honest, those would actuallly be true heritage units,, as for the ac600 hes right about that too so shutup

When one of Amtrak's P42DC's has a malfunction, and there are no other Amtrak locomotives available without making the passengers wait for days. This has happened more often lately.
Nice! I wonder if 7564 is the AC6000 SP had ordered when the merger took place? They supposedly had ordered 2 (600 and 601) a few weeks before the merger and only halfway painted with SP colors. Nice catch on the ex-SSF engines! (1347 and 1530)
Espeeboy speculated that rogue Cotton Belt elements in Texas facilities might have swapped the horns... The Nathan P3 was definitely a shocker for me.
Wait.....could that unit have been one of the original sp c60's? hmm.....

That P3 is the original horn

Like the Nathan horn on the UP7564, sounds like the good old days of Southern Pacific...

What is the cab identifier on a 6000? c60ac? i think ive seen a c60\44ac in colorado... is this that kind of locomotive?
singletrackmatt 3 months ago
@singletrackmatt: Yeah, the original UP AC6000's said C60AC on the cab. C6044AC's look very similar, but don't have the dual exhaust the C60AC's did.

All trains freight or passenger should have this kind of awesome diesel engines pulling them... instead of the wimpy electric looking ones...

Why would a freight type engine from Union Pacific be hauling (so to speak) an Amtrak engine and its cars?

Now with the 6000 on the point, is the California Zephyr allowed to hit its max speed of 79? cause I believe the top speed on the AC6000 is 74.
furryfurball1221 2 years ago
From what I heard, they run ~70 mph maximum speed with a freight engine in the consist.
cchan006 2 years ago
that would make sense. Thanks for the info.

nice local!!

Probably another P42DC malfunction. The AC6000 was first reported on the train past Denver, so it might have been added there.
