I like your expression " in the sands of time ", in French we would say " dans la nuit des temps ", which means since the beginning.
Now, I'll go on a little bit. In fact, the Roman Catholic Church is already short of new vocations ( seen on TV )and the current priests are in charge of several parishes, up to four. Do they really have time for people individually speaking ?
Their institutions are too old-fashioned and too demanding in our modern society ...
... will they remain blind or deaf for long to what they see or hear of ? Being a Roman Catholic priest nowadays is a bit similar to being a " hero ", and they're just human beings. Life is long, and celibacy can lead to dangerous behaviours in some cases, or just normal behaviours in others. I know they have a lot of evening meetings, and must give their time to their parishioners, but do you think that your priests are less efficient because they are married ?
and do you know if they also have several parishes in charge ? Is the Church of England short of priests ?
Do you understand why I spoke about the real heavy weight of traditions ? This is one that " May 68 " was unsuccessful to get rid of, but it's normal, Church and State have been separated since 1905, and the young were angry with State institutions first, and then, they just chose to give up religion, I suppose it was impossible to fight a peaceful institution, and easier to " Turn away "
I think you made a really good comment, the songs as said it all, and it shows how religious beliefs are changing within the sex of whom go into the church,it is there for all walks of lives and things are changing for the better,
... with some belief left, even if, in France, everything started to change after the " May 68 " youth revolution, and not only in religion. Which was unavoidable, life was too strict ! There was a huge gap between the so-called visible lightness of the sixties, and the real weight of traditions.
I've been to church with friends in the Midlands, the service there was very similar to our Roman Catholic Mass, except that the priest was ... a woman !
... there was a children's area with toys and books inside the church ... and even a kettle and tea cups at the back !!! Such nice, friendly and convivial habits ! I found everything great, and don't understand why the Vatican authorities still refuse female priests or married male ones.
They will have to change someday or won't have any more priests ...
Sorry for those who aren't interested in my comment, but " It is written " was a good opportunity to underline a few obvious differences !
Thanks, Elaine, for your interest.

I've always liked this song, music, rhythm and lyrics !
Isn't it rare, unusual and a good idea, a pop singer praising Lord Jesus for his love and care ?
And Paul and Barry dit it in several songs ... and why not a rock version for Mother and Child in " Isn't that wild " ???
Of course, most of us, born in the 40s, 50s or 60s have had some religious background in our education ...

Just a slight change, nothing more ...
