Mental illness is the last social taboo. People do not like to talk about it nor do they understand what it is exactly. It is deadly and destroys the lives of the sufferers as well as those that love them. Van Gogh could not "cheer" up. His chemistry and brain did not function correctly much as someone with diabetes or heart disease.His bipolar/psychotic features alienated others and caused his self mutilation. Thankfully his brother stood by him. Bless beautiful Vincent who loved despite it.

About six years ago my mother and father bided on a storage bin. As they empted it out there was this painting in the back of the bin which had been placed and sealed up in a black trash bag. This oil painting was of sunflowers and the name Vincent on the flower vase. We realized just recently it could be a painting by Vincent Van Gogh himself

Thank you for this, very beautiful and inspiring. It was the loneliness, the rejection that killed him as much as the bullet.
He did sell two paintings, not one. If he had hung in a bit longer, but all got too much. Never give up on life.
