  • I do exactly the same thing with my blanket (the tying) instead of a slip knot at the beginning, put a little loop at the end, and feed the cord through; I find it's easier to tie and undo.

  • @VeronicasMidget I would use mine, to about -50, but you have to have a fire. Wool, is a remarkable material.

I actually went out on purpose one night cos it was going to be -3..you are right about wool...it's like millions of hollow straws that hold the moisture inside rather than between the fibres, so the air still gets trapped in the gaps..wicked for misty/drizzly morning when the wind has shifted in the night and blowing water all over your face...all the best!

  • @VeronicasMidget thanks for your comment..the winter nights that I have been out were without a fire for warmth@6 degrees celcius with only the wool blanket in a light breeze that had shifted constantly throughout the night so the tarp could be adjusted..and without a fire on poncho barrier with a cheap Halfords sleeping bag+the blanket wrapped around to -3 degrees....one night with Joe was pretty cold,,I had a mat,bag and sort of shared the blanket on top (but I kept nicking it!) to -6 deg Cel

  • @bassfuryvi if you had a tent,,then the wind isn't an issue..outside with a cheap ass Halfords tent,using a mat ,my black micro bag and the blanket was easily -5 one night..when you start implementing a fire then the wool blanket really starts to come into it's own,as a natural fibre it won't melt, so with a skilful long fire lay and a good long pace distance -20 degs and more is achieveable,,the fire MUST be big so it lasts throughout the night without dying,,this prevents you,,,,,

  • @bassfuryvi ...prevents you subconsciously rolling nearing the embers to gain heat,,then you would get burned..a good long fire at a long pace should give enough heat,,BUT in that situation I would shift the hours about...sleep during the day more when it's a bit warmer and stay up at night a bit minding the fire maybe keeping active prepping traps/snares/spears/bark baskets....the best situation would be a tent/wikiup with a wood burning stove..outside temperature would be arbitrary then! :-)

At the moment I carry a five season sleeping bag it is excellent and I'm always guaranteed a great nights sleep but with the bivvy it weighs in pretty heavy so I'm looking for a lighter summer, autumn option. This is a real help so thanks again Mr. Bassfuryvi. You are a Geezer. PS. Do you answer questions about Knife making?

  • Good stuff, but the whole video has made me want to eat a roll of Pork covered in chocolate! I've switched from a wool blanket to a fleece one. Just as warm, lighter, and dries quicker :-)

  • @hoosierarcher sorry about the voice..been singing (roaring) again....slightly hoarse for an hour...the music ..the first track is "Hit The Steel",, the second is "Tribal Fire",,rhythm guitars,bass,riff,ideas.....ME­,,drums, lead guitar,mastering,,Martin Miles..look at the owner of The Beast knife....so original work..they are on Reverbnation under scottwilliamsbass...the chocolate was a Twirl..which is like a Flake but with a outer layer added on..

  • @bassfuryvi I think I had one of those when I was in the Midlands in the 80s. I was training to be a chef. I wonder why some many bushcrafters like heavy metal rock aka Industrial rock music? Chocolate is one of the few things that make civilization worthwhile. That's right you heard it here first the only reason to submit to civilization are chocolate and the internet. LOL

  • An impressivly sharp axe you have there :). I used to use a 8" tanto to open packets of biscuits. For some reaosn visitors used to look at me a bit funny when I did that. So now I use a 6" bowie. Oddly they still look at me a bit funny.... and now you've out-done me with the machete and chocolate. Time to get the katana out for the biccies I think, lol.
