Wow, Im a huge Sabres fan and Vanek supporter, but Jesus Christ some of the people commenting are absolutely retarded. xSabres26x, just shut the fuck up. Dont ever try and say that Vanek is a better goal scorer than OV. The only reason his SH% is up is because of how many deflections/rebound goals he scores. Anyone who watches hockey and says Kovalchuk is average might just be the stupidest person you will ever meet. He's one of very few players in the league who is comparable to the Big 3.

Well apparently you've never watched Kovalchuk play because anybody that claims he is an average player is a moron. Also, if you would notice now that he has a decent team to play with, his numbers are higher than ever. 13 goals and 21 points in 12 games while injured, yeah, those are definitely the normal stats for an "average" player on a decent team. I suppose Gaborik was also an average player on a shitty team in Minnesota, same goes for Sid and Ovi their first few years. Gimme a break kid

I never argued that he wasn't their entire offense, he has been since Heater left. Calling him an average player by any stretch however, is just ridiculous. An average player could not lead an entire team to even half the success the Thrashers have had, especially in the NHL, the toughest league in the world. Kovy makes some of the best defensemen and goalies in the world look like they belong in the juniors.
