  • The crowd looks like they're bothered by the show, well...FUCK THEM!!!

  • Agree LizzyJaye - Awesome !!!

  • Johnny Just Rules!

And he only played with The Best!

A brief glimpse of Barry Jones...He Rocked The London Cowboys!

  • saw this line up at the old Ritz in NYC, Cheetha chrome opened up and Stiv Bators came out to do sonic reducer, great show, Johnny was amazing that night

  • Forever and ever and ever people will wonder what the girl in the shot at 1:59 whispers to her boyfriend? What is she saying?

  • Comment removed

  • barry's great , check out some of the london cowboy's stuff , but johnnys nasty tone and lead playing steal the show . sounds like everyone had it together that nite and it sounds great .

  • please thumb up 4jayeP.

Anyway, JT's Les Paul is a TV no really a Jr, no? ( or a LSjr TV;)

W/ just only one mike ,supposed to avoid mistakes like: JT turned down the neck mike volume, & when he switched on it, no sound, then he destroyed the fucking guitar with much fucking rage & alot of fucking etcetc. Happened in memphis, where the banana LS what bought for $360, Right or wrong, it's cute... No coffee in the morning? watch that vid.

  • He always used at least one Fender Twin Reverb, not Marshall

  • Oops, I meant to say I saw him in '86 there. I was and still am so enamored - he's so underrated.

  • Love this! Saw him that year there, think it was a different gig, got a flyer and some photos. He's great.

  • youre very lucky to have seen him.. do you live in L.A?

  • @TheThroney

    In the area, yes!

  • I've watched this video probably 100 times by now. The tone he is getting out of his guitar is unbelievable!!!! Pure balls. His Les Paul Jr. and a Marshall JCM 800. No effects, no distortion boxes, just pure power.

  • isnt that sound god like?

  • "Que Sera Sera". Great album. Check it out!

  • Brilliant!!!

  • Who the fuck is Barry Jones??

  • As it says in the video hes the guitarist, for a short list: Barry Jones played with Arthur Kane, Jerry Nolan and Johnny Thunders, toured around the world with them. played in the Idols, and London Cowboys he gave guitar lessons to Mick Jones of the Clash, he co-owned London's first punk club The Roxy, which gave early punk legends an avenue to play, he also made the first color punk fliers advertising shows in London,

  • @sankofa thank you for clarifing it for that jerk

  • ...A true Luminary of the early punk seen in London,Barry is the only musician who's played with both four band members of the New York Dolls and Sex Pistols. that's "who the fuck Barry Jones is".

  • @sankofa preach it my friend!

  • Oh I left out: Barry Jones played with Keith Levine (Clash/Pil), Clem Burke (Blondie), in a band with Chrissie Hynde (pretenders) google: "Barry Jones Guitar" for further research on your own.

  • @sacredo07 ....."who the fcuk is Barry Jones"...... . You should be ashamed of yourself..

  • Jerry was the first to leave, then Johnny, then finally Arthur. RIP to all. This was one hell of a show.

  • Johnny was the first to die :S

  • Wish I knew the basic chords to this rockin song, Take care People.

  • typical blues chord progression actually its only two real chods in there a 1 and a 4 chord. It sound like the key is in A. So its gonna be a chuckberry style and then d chuck berry style..two chords dude!

  • Pick up this dvd as it's the best live johnny out there!

  • Transfixed, huh? I guess that explains everything. I still love the music. Thanks very much for this video.

    Paul

  • the problem with this video is that Johnny was a rock'n'roller, but everyone else in the audience was sitting down. Given one more chance, audience, get off your ass.

  • They were transfixed

  • why hasnt he recived the credit he deserves? people need to speak up email vh1 and all the others rip johnny

  • the name of this song is "leave me alone". It's not rocket science

  • A ctually the song had three different titles .. the one that kept was "Blame it on mom" "depending on how high Johnny was determined what he thought the song should be called.. "

no not rocket science but not cut an dry either..

quote from Barry Jones {the guitarist}as we sat discussing the naming of these videos.

  • Hey Paul, when we did this tour,(w/Glen in Japan,Oz, and Europe; Arty in the US), THIS version was called 'Blame it on Mom"; as with "Chatterbox" the title would change if he sang new lyrics... but i never heard anyone argue that it was called "rocket science"..... so shaddup, and don't be so mean!

ps. a great time... miss those wingnuts; peace, Barry Jones

  • and... the 'rocket science' ref was a joke, so don't go correcting me. BJ

  • @PaulTettam - Know what you are talking about, idiot. "Leave Me Alone" was essentially a re-worked version of the Dolls song, "Chatterbox," and has 100% different lyrics to this. This IS "Blame It On Mom," which - as legend has it - was written by Stevie Klasson and JT decided not to credit him for it.

  • heroin is a sick fucking drug. still, its crazy how many amazing people chose to dance with it. i think johnny and jerry were amazing

  • enjoy Johnny's music and leave him alone already. R.I.P. Johnny, Arthur, and Jerry.LOVE.

  • Dont think he was ever "clean" when he wasnt on heroin he was on methadone. The only difference was that he had a prescription.

  • I think this is one of his best performances. he's tight and strong and rockkkkks...I hate his nodding vids

  • Isn't it interesting how people are enamored of the rock and roll lifestyle and attitude, but when Heroin enters the picture things turn cold and gray. I guess because it has a bad track record for killing people.

  • I think it's the lead up to the kill that destroys souls...using is hard. Dying is easy

  • Yes, I agree. Chock full of wisdom.

  • Thanks but I'm not so wise. I've seen quite a few people go down that long road; some returned; most didn't. Nobody who uses junk or whatever their choice of poison is happy. So many people feel there's something missing in their souls, psyches etc. and try to fill up the emptiness with drugs. I have sympathy...it's a tough world.

  • Yes. We lost two brothers through alcoholism and drugs. You hit the nail on the head.

  • You have my deepest sympathy. It's very hard to watch (let) somebody walk down that road when they don't want your help. They don't even hear you. And then the guilt of when they go all the way down. I guess today is a melancholy kind of day. I say we crank up some good rock and roll...

    aka KCRamone

  • Good idea. Thanks.

  • Nice chatting with you...anytime

  • Yes. Anytime. Thanks.

  • So strange. Even while he was still alive Thunders was like a ghost.

  • llol why is the crowd allkids, they look like theyre bothered to be there

  • He looks so fuckin' badass

  • How cum he never plays this good when I opened 4 him?

    BLAME IT ON MOMMY! MOMMY?

    taxiboysdrummer

  • The best video of Johnny! Les Paul Jr. + Marshall JCM's = pure tone. This friends, is pure rock n roll.

  • @LizzyJaye He was using a Twin reverb :P

  • This is not New York Dolls.

  • yes but you can found jerry nolan, arthur kane and johnny thunders..who were 3 guys of the new york dolls original core

  • I love how whenever Thunders plays a solo, he goes over to his old compadre Jerry "Nigs" Nolan. Its like he can only bear his soul to his old pal. And Nigs has such a bounce in his playing. Barry is so solid in his rhythm and Arthur, well, he's a beautifu statue. Ya gotta love 'em. This is such a powerhouse of a performance. If only....

  • raw fucking gig

  • Johnny sounds great here- coherent and on fire! Ironic that he's playing LA in '87, right in the middle of the glam / hard rock / hair band quagmire he inspired. Every hair farmer in LA at the time must've been at this show so they could better cop Johnny's act- name ONE of those 80s band that didn't have at least one Johnny clone in it. Nikki Sixx, Tracii Guns, Izzy Stradlin, Brent Muscat, CC Deville, et al owe a big debt to Johnny (and that's said with affection, not condemnation).

  • fuckin ROCKS !!

  • Amo el sonido de esas guitarras...no suena punk...es rock and roll mas basico...rock and roll a full!!!

  • get a life you little shoolboy bitch

  • fucking wow...i was at this show

  • johnny thunders forever !!!

  • ill always love you johnny,so sorry they made a fool of you

  • was there! saw that! finagled a camera into the roxy and took pictures. Hypnotic.....as jhonny always was!

  • Who doesn't look boring-the guy doing the lame HB strut for too long on stage and finishing with the bad stage dive? Sit down and enjoy the show if you want to.

  • arthur kller kane( bass ) ,jerry fuckin nolan ( drums ) and thunders ...3 dolls on stage .

ts from you cant nvEer put your arms AROUND A MEMORY vIdeo 1987 in L .A .

  • somebody has footage from early concerts from gung n roses and thunders ?'

    just courious .

so fine johnyy thunders, just like duff said !

  • Nobody's cooler than Johnny Thunders. This is from a Great DVD.

  • True, on-one BUT no-one cooler than Johnny and the word has become so devalued now I doubt most kids know what it means....u have to be that BAD to be that GOOD and he certainly was here. I miss the Roxy. I miss all those scummy. sweaty clubs where are they now all themed and cleaned. Not r'r.

  • That's cool. That's Thunders

  • fucking amazing

  • If you look to the right of Johnny's feet the guy in the white shirt is me the girl in black is my girlfriend Sinde singer of Party doll and the guy next to her is Larry Hardy who owns evry video of evry band in th eworld that was 1 of the many great show I saw and worked at as the stage manager for Sebastian presents Good times RIP johnny!

  • All three of you look boring throughout the whole show, sorry but that's just the way it is, I would have the time of my life if I would have been there, but you don't seem like you are having any fun, you didn't even move for 90 minutes or so.

  • That's a love song... "waste of time."

  • and that dudes left handed so he must be cool

  • AHHH BARRY JONES on guitar along with Johnny!!

    YES!

    The Idols and London Cowboys!!

  • Rip it up, foot to the pedal, Rock & Roll...seems like there is nothing like this anymore...these guys were in the "zone"...thanks for putting this up.

  • fan fucking tastic. and no pedophile speeches.

    hot!

  • Can anybody tell me where to found the lyrics of "Blame It On Mom', because they're unfoundable. I'm french, so couldn't understand well Johnny. I wanna play this song with my band !!!!

  • Is this clown still dead? How pretentious.

  • more than you will ever accomplish in your lifetime

  • Sankofa is right. This is taken from the "Thunders, Kane & Nolan" DVD. It's shot at The Roxy, 1987. Superb stuff. The DVD is amazing.

  • Wow, he actually doesn't seem completely fucked up.

  • all respect due your wrong.. i just phoned Barry Jones hes on guitar in the video an he said" i can show you the room in the Roxy where that footage was shot from the one camera."

"and in 1984 I was in Japan Playing with the London Cowboys and that footage is indeed from the roxy..

well.. that's the guy in the vids quote ..

    peace

  • The footage included on the latest Jungle release of 'Que Sera Sera','Sad Vacation','Little Bit Of Whore' & 'Pipeline' were shot at this concert, you can even pick out the chick in the front row smoking & using the stage as an ash tray.

    Much respect to Steve Dior!!!

Jungle must have their wires crossed.

  • This footage was not shot at The Roxy,it was shot at the Marquee,London,August 1984.

    Great song...

  • nope thats the roxy in Hollywood. Barry who gave me the video is playing guitar an confirms this as well as the dvd cover.

  • It's definitely the Roxy. My friend Matt is in the front row, the smiley round-faced guy in the dark shirt next to the smoking girl.

  • No, it's not from 1984 and no it's not from the marquee. Do your homework "kid".

  • Hey,I was just going on the info I got from Jungle,"kid".I accept that they got it wrong and as a consequence,I got it wrong,"kid".I've been doin' my "homework" on J.T,The Heartbreakers & the Dolls half my life,"kid".What the hell is your point?Oh,repeating the one that sankofa made a couple of months ago!Good grief...

  • I love this song.

  • nice vid,great sound,

  • Pretty good performance from the late-model Johnny. He was very mercurial at that stage, this must have been a good night.

  • this was a period where he was under good management.

They kept him away from the jokers that wanted to give him junk...I saw the same show/line up at the stone in SF...except at one point johnny stole a joint from a guy in the audience and smoked the whole thing down...

  • then he went on a super long version of green onions, it was spectacular, made me green with envy, so to speak...I still remember that guy pleading with Johnny to give him the joint back...he was pleading to deaf ears, it was funny as hell. After the show, Johnny milled around in the audience like he was just one of the crowd...

  • The L.A crowd always prefered the copy cats, without realizing that Johnny was one of those who started it all. After Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue always wanted to be like him... L.A just couldn't understand Johnny, far too intellectual and real in his approach

  • maybe they don't give a crap that 'johnny started it'.... thunders was alright, but he was no keith richards... all this thunder worship seems so strained....

  • I think they just don't have any passion...they're stoned and boring.

  • Yeah this Hollywood audience acts like John should feel honored to play infront of them, damn stuck up kids. Half of the people just sit there motionless the whole show until he FINALLY plays Chinese Rocks at the end (Because these kids are too uneducated with JT's music to know any other song but Chinese Rocks). John played great this period in his life though, this was around the time of the Que Sera Sera Lp...

    RIP.

  • Your comment about Hollywood audiences reminds me of a quote from somebody in Alice in Chains comparing Seattle to LA fans: The Seattle fans really love you and show it...but LA fans don't want to admit they like you! they're like "oh, yeah...they're okay..."!

  • One of the best capturings of Johnny's guitar sound, I saw the SF version of this show in person and he was

awesome. Of course the SF audience was more active.

  • Bitchin' - did CeCe DeVille see this? Did all those '80's hair Rockers know who they were copying? Raw waste of time in retrospect, Johnnie was real.
