  • saw him play at Yankee Stadium 1962-63---ran over the Giants all day

as an eyewitness he is the greatest football player ever

you can only measure an athlete against his peers and Brown is without a doubt the greatest football (and probably lacrosse as well) player in history

  • If you doubt his greatness.....read the book "Jim Brown:The Fierce Life of an American Hero", and then you will become a believer!

  • Jim brown is so tough that he would go up against butkus

  • if Jim Brown played today he would play at 255-260 pounds and average 2000 yards a season--unquestionably the greatest running back in history and probably the greatest football player ever

  • @kpcolman lol no he wouldn't he would probably average around 1300 yard or so. the overall talent back then is inferior to the overall talent now.

  • @Allistar123 But back then defenses could pretty much get away with anything without being penalized for it. Nowadays there's way more restrictive rules on what they can do.

  • @Allistar123 So in american football its the same story as basketball , he wouldnt average that manny , he would be less dominant , today players are stronger... I dont watch american football but have you guys ever heard that people are by every generation MORE AND MORE FIZICALY WEAKER ?? Those players that played in 70's didnt take roids and artificial nutrients to maker them better or stronger , they had raw strenght ! And if played today would be just as good as aynone else or ever better .

  • why cant any other fullback be like jim brown

  • The only discussion is who's the 2nd greatest back of all-time. Jim Brown was, is, and always will be the greatest football player who ever breathed. Period. End of discussion.

  • @TheDr5544 I'm sixty three, Jim Brown, Johnny Unitas were the best I've ever seen. I'm from Boston, Tom Brady isn't too far from joining that duo.

  • @dick7414

    Brady isn't better than Montana

  • @dick7414

Or Rice or L.T. or Prime....

  • You know you're good and tough to bring down when a safety tells his linemen and linebackers that he'll give them a hundred bucks each for every carry where he doesn't get into the secondary. No defensive back wanted to tangle with this train.

  • In Jim Brown's time It was all about the running game. He could not block because he was carrying the ball 3 out of four carries most times. Third and one . third and five, even third and 7 he carried the ball. Imagine now the opposition and all the fans knowing who is going to get the ball 11 guys keying on you and you still get 5.2. I was there at the L. A. Colisiem when the Cleveland Browns came to town to play the L. A. Rams.

  • @Ghtthomps You're right; and don't forget, when he wasn't carrying the ball he was usually out in the flat ready to take a screen pass 60 yards.

  • it will always to the end of time.Jim Brown, Gale Sayers, Barry Sanders the rest were one hit wonders.

  • @drnubian O.J. Simpson

  • I always thought that OJ was the best pure, most fun and beautiful to watch running back ever touch a football, too bad he's piece of shit.

  • @clint525fuller - Brown was flat out better!

  • Not only was he the greatest running back of all-time, he is the greatest football player to ever play the game!!! I was very fortunate to have seen him play and I have to say he was truly awesome!!!

  • Wow, its funny how bad these players were back then. He really had it easy, half those guys couldnt tackle a modern highschool star.

  • The Greatest football player to ever lace up a pair of cleets. No one could touch then, now, or ever in the history of the game. NO ONE!

  • if he played now he would be a fullback blocking allday

  • You need to put your crack pipe down and check into the best institution you can find so you can clean up. "A fullback blocking"

What a Damn FOOL you are.

  • HA!

He couldn't block then how the hell is he going to block Joey Porter or Demarcus Ware?

  • @ithrowtdz Jim Brown played against guys like Sam Huff, Deacon Jones, Chuck Bednarik, Ray Nitschke, and Dick Butkus. Porter and Ware are soft compared to those guys.

  • @CoolerKing37

Well Deacon and company didnt face lineman that averaged 6'5" and 300 plus pounds.... and Ware wouldve MURDERED brown....

  • @ithrowtdz Nah, Brown would've given Demarcus Ware yet another neck injury.

  • @CoolerKing37

Youre so mistaken.... Deacon Jones in particular, used to headslap o-linemen but, the rules didnt allow offensive linemen to use their hands, they had to chicken wing block the opponent. Deac wouldn't do that to D'Brickashaw, Munoz, Matthews, or Joe Thomas because they put their hands on him before he could.

Ware is a beast, even with neck injuries he still gets double digits in sack year after year. Apparently being hurt doesn't do shit to him.... By the way, 4 sacks this year

  • @CHC4669 played on a 12/14 game schedule and 9 seasons. nuff said

  • ithrowtdz, just stop! Just stop, okay! Holy smokes dude you are just not too bright. Never mind, forget I said anything. And by the way, Jim Brown ran a 4.4 forty and was a multi-sport star in college.

  • Comment removed

  • I was saying christian okoye is similar in size speed and power to jim brown bcuz the previous user said the running bks r just now catching up

  • Dude, you're really arguing with the wrong guy. I'm a big Emmitt Smith guy. I think the "well, anyone could run behind that line" spiel is absolutely ridiculous. I'd take Emmitt over Barry Sanders. But I'm rare with that. I guess that's the difference. Emmitt may have been the best of his era but people just as passionate as you will argue Barry Sanders. Jim Brown was so completely above the rest of the NFL that only now, forty years later, is the modern athlete catching up.

  • HUH? Ever heard of Christian Okoye?????

  • Dude, Ithrowtdz. You're making me work too hard. If you're not picking up what I'm laying down, so be it. You just compared to Christian Okoye to Jim Brown. "HUH?" indeed. I can't even talk to you anymore. Whatever, you're right, whoever you think is the best is the best. Never mind. Happy now?

  • Okoye was great for a while, but he's no Jim Brown. I'm a huge fan of both of them, but Okoye didn't have the stamina to take 35+ carries a game and he broke down relatively quickly. Jim Brown is definitely the greatest

  • I would take Emmitt over Barry too, he may not have the highlight runs but was more consistant and reliable. Barry had many drive killing negative yard runs and scored about as often as Bud Bundy from married with children. What is awesome about Brown is that he was consistent (having never lost yards on a run) and could make highlight reels. Jim was an equal threat to plow a group of defenders for a short gain or go sixty yards.

  • What he said.

  • brown fumbled more frequently than smith and barry though

  • wrong.

  • ...Babe Ruth. Back in the day Babe Ruth broke his own home run record with 60 home runs. The record he broke? His RECORD for home runs? Twenty-nine. Babe Ruth changed the way we thought about baseball. Similarly, Jim Brown was the first modern football player. He was a physical marvel BECAUSE look at the athletes he played against. Those were professional athletes! Jim Brown was like someone from another planet. Or the future. That's what Jim Brown was when he played. The future.

  • I saw Jim Brown play many games had a seasons pass. Jim Brown was all above the rest. So believe what the experts say I was there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Since you guys want to throw all these statistics out there... I have one in counter. ONE PLAYOFF TOUCHDOWN.... In a game they were BEAT down by the Lions...

The Greatest Running Back of all Time had, ONE playoff touchdown in 9 years.... oh yeah, he was a fumbler, 57 fumbles in 118 games... Emmitt fumbled 61 times in twice as many games....

You can take your one playoff touchdown, I'll roll with deuce deuce to some victories!

  • emmitt was boring as hell to watch and he was great nut not the greatest, in fact there is no ONE greatest runningback ever

  • Who cares if he was boring, he was productive in the playoffs ass!

  • i care that he was boring, football is for entertainment and even if he was he still wasnt the greatest ever

  • You can throw all these stats and all this junk around but, when it comes to being the greatest, you have to be the best on the biggest stage and I remember COUNTLESS times when Emmitt Smith would perform BIG for the boys. Great o-line? I acknowledge it. But, I also acknowledge it's not a coincidence that his ability to perform for the boys in big games was above the other running backs mentioned. This guy had countless big games. Brown, Walter, and Sanders are great but, Emmitt's the best ever.

  • Greatest "short lived" runningbacks:

    Gale Sayers

    Earl Campbell

    Terrell Davis

    Greatest period:

    Jim Brown

    Walter Payton

    Barry Sanders

  • I can't believe people think that jim brown did not have to run over great defenders. That is crazy- legendary defenders such as Bob Lilly,Chuck Bednarik,Big Daddy Eugene Lipscolm,Andy Russell, and brady keys were all destroyed by Jim Brown. jim Brown was an icredible short-yardage runner and had great receiving skills as well.

  • big deal.... NONE of those players had the athleticism of the today's WORST defender and along with film and knowledge of the game... jim brown would be lucky to crack 1200 yards in a season today. That's why I always argue against greatest of ALL time, greatest of HIS time.... Look at the SIZE of today's players man, they're so much bigger and faster than the slower men of yesteryear.

  • true, they didnt. but todays players have so much available to them: supplements, better workout equipment, more knowledge of the game..... but think about that. jim brown would also have that available to him. he would be just as big and nasty compared to defenders as he was then

  • Most ignorant words ever spoken. Thanks for the laugh moron.

  • Lets just say that Jim Brown, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, and Emmitt Smith are the best RBs of all time. No player in any sport can be called the greatest.

  • ernie davis was one of the best too

  • what about marshall faulk.

  • gale sayers????...and emmitt smith is just a product of a great OL

  • 1993 emmitt vs. the new york giants.... WHAT LINE?

  • i think ernie davis would have been one of the greatest if he did not die of cancer at the age of 23. other than that

JIM BROWN #1 Walter Payton #2 only because he was sick and #3 Barry Sanders

  • jim brown was great, but barry sanders played with hardly any offensive line if you look at all the tapes, barry created his own gaps and holes, i'll bet if barry even played back then he'd garner twice as many yards as jim brown did in the same amount of time with those undersized line men and walter payton was an overrated bum

  • LMAO! It's always fun to laugh at other people's ignorance.

It's impossible for a RB to create holes for themselves, plus his o-line wasn't as bad as stupid people like you make it out to be. Walter Payton was overrated? You must be a packers fan. Or you're just a fucking moron. I'm going to go ahead and say it's probably both.

Thanks for the good laugh, what would Youtube be without idiots like this?

  • i agree

  • One question for you Jim Brown lovers. How would 250LBS brandon Jacons run back in the 50's and 60's when the LB's were under 200LBS! Just something to consider.

Jim brown was great, Ill give him that. But my all time best, Barry Sanders. He wasnt on a championship team like Brown, yet had simular statistics and never played with another hall of famer! Sanders was under looked because he played on Detroit! Thats a fact!

  • shut up man, how do u compare Jacobs to brown, thats a descrace man, jacobs aint even a top 10 back in 2days league. Dont ever compare him to the greatest again

  • You're not thinking it through properly, MovieEditor. You move Jim Brown ahead to today but nothing else, no history, no greater knowledge about physiology or diet or football technique, nothing. If "Jim Brown" played today, he'd weigh three hundred pounds, all three hundred would be sculpted like Captain America, he'd run a 4.0 forty and he'd gain over 2000 yards every year. That's what Jim Brown was in his day.

  • Be realistic, he'd be like Brandon Jacobs but, maybe faster. Humans don't evolve that damn fast. He wouldn't be a dominate back like he was back then. I'll play your stupid game of nutrition and crap and say Brown would go against the most complex defenses ever designed and players of a bigger size and faster. He would be luck to eclipse 1800 yards....

  • Ithrowtdz, you're not following me. The "what if he played today argument" is idiotic. He didn't play today. The stuff you're saying about the modern athlete is what made Jim Brown so incredible. He WAS evolution. I was just trying to give you perspective on to what Jim Brown Did. The numbers I threw out were proportional to how far past the previous rushing record Jim Brown was. He dominated like no one else in football. To understand what he accomplished when he played you have to look to...

  • Okay so are you for Jim Brown being the greatest of all time in any era? Or his era?

  • @TheMovieEditor LB's were NOT under 200 lbs in the 50's and 60's. Most were in the 220-230 lb range. Defensive linemen ran from 250-275; not much smaller than today. And Brown was not the biggest RB of the era; Cookie Gilchrist was 245 lbs in those days. I don't understand the common misperception that players of that era were midgets or untalented, but I see it all the time with people discounting the achievements of those before the posters' time.

  • @buckfan1969

dude hardy brown was 190 fuckin pounds....

  • @ithrowtdz Yes, and Ernie Ladd was 325 lbs. Buck Buchanan was around 300. Roosevelt Grier was 285, Big Daddy Lipscombe was about 290. Roger Brown was over 300. Guys like Nitschke, Galen Fiss, Sam Huff, Butkus were all in the 220-235 range for linebackers. There were many more, but it's hard to remember them all. They were not midgets and they were not softies. And Hardy Brown was one of the meanest, toughest defensive halfbacks that ever played with that forearm shiver of his.

  • @buckfan1969

hardy brown was a lineback dude.... And you're naming the stars.... the average linebacker now bigger than yesteryear, not by much but, Sam Huff would be lucky to make a tackle against today's players.... He just wouldn't adjust to every linemen being 300 pounds and mobile. But, today's O-line would have a harder time blocking Marchetti, or Grier because they'd have to chicken wing block them.... A wash i guess....

  • The only rb close to Jim Brown as a runner was Barry Sanders, except Barry was small, elusive and quick. Brown was big, fast and powerful.

Peyton - too slow, tough as nails.

Emmitt Smith - too slow, great O line.

Earl Cambell - not very elusive, tried to run you over, short career.

Dickerson - very good, overused with the Rams, sent to the Colts and floundered.

Marcus Allen - screwed by Al Davis, great runner, no top gear.

OJ Simpson - can CUT with the best of them.

    Ladanian Tomlinson!

  • Jim Brown-refused to block

  • # 1 Jim Brown The Best no debate at all Experts agree and they " might " Know because they saw him in more than the one camera angle not the 16 angles they have today. The rest are debatable, Payton, Sanders Sayers Dickerson, Simpson, and Campbell If you disagree which you can debate NFL

films and all the experts who have "SEEN" them all, on the other hand the "experts" here on youTube may know more? If it is so totally unanimous by them that have seen them all play,I don't understand??????

  • Jim Brown Cleveland Browns, 1957-1965

Forty years after his shocking retirement at the peak of his career and now only seventh on the alltime rushing list, Brown still ranks as the standard against which ALL other running backs are measured In only nine seasons and playing largely with a 12game schedule he rushed for 12,312 yards His 5.2-yard average remains the BEST among the game's top 20 alltime rushers. An awesome combination of brute force inside the tackles absolutely punished tacklers

  • Earl Campbell is # 1 in his prime. Bigger, stronger and faster than Jim Brown. I think Brown might admit it too. Earl's prime was short though.

  • @bobd007 Campbell and Bo Jackson are the closest I've seen to Brown in physical ability, but neither had the durability. And you have to have that durability to be ranked among the greatest.

  • Jim Brown, Walter Payton, OJ Simpson and Barry Sanders... I have Barry #1 but I am biased because I was born in '87 so I did not witness these other great athletes in their prime. I cannot argue with anyone putting any of those 4 as their top RB though.

  • There's no doubt he was the greatest running back ever. Nobody did what he did in the amount of time he did it in. He could have lingered around like Jerry Rice did significantly past his prime but he retired while he was on top and IN his prime. Amazing. The fact he never missed a game is also incredible. Just as impressive as Favre's streak because of his position.

  • i would know cuz im from cleveland so dont tell me different! Gop fuck urself if u dont think him and barry arent the best i like him, barry, and walter, they r without a doubt 1,2,3 no matter wat order u put them in they r gonna be 1,2, or 3

  • u guys r all 4getting that back in the 50's and 60's they had 12 game seasons and brown still was the rushing champion and best back in every category, and he stopped early cuz he wanted to get into acting, he also had to do with racism, where ever person wanted to kill him practically, and he could have the rushing title or be second behind sanders if he played longer and no doubt would have it if he played now adays with 16 game seasons, he had the speed and power combo like no other

  • Are you kidding fricken walter payton could drive jim brown through the wall and barry sanders could make him fall on his face......come on jim was good at his time but he isnt even close to the real ones up there like barry sanders and walter payton

  • that may be true but in his defense he doesn't play defense

  • Jim Brown Cleveland Browns 1957-1965

Forty years after his shocking retirement at the peak of his career and now only seventh on the all-time rushing list Brown still ranks as the standard against which ALL other running backs are measured In only nine seasons and playing largely with a 12-game schedule he rushed for 12,312 yards. His 5.2-yard average remains the best among the games top 20 alltime rushers An awesome combination of brute force inside the tackles absolutely punished tacklers

  • Barry Sanders easily makes Brown look like second best. Unlike Brown, he didn't break ankles and outrun defenders at a time where he was bigger than them. The players he ran against where freaks of nature. As a matter of fact, they still are. The average end or LB in the late 50s and early 60s were Brown's size or smaller. Give me break.

  • Jim Brown and Walter Payton are 1 and 2 in my book. Jim Brown was simply the best and Walter Payton was the greatest all-purpose back in league history. However, I don't care what anyone says O.J Simpson is number 3 on the list of the greatest backs. I hear all of this clamoring for Barry Sanders and there is no doubt he was great. But O.J could juke you, run by you or run you over. Barry couldn't do all of those things. O.J also rushed for 2,000 yards in a 14 game season. That is my opinion.

  • What about Earl Campbell and Eric Dickerson.

If they aren't in the top 5 there's something wrong.

  • this is awesome. and that is the greatest song i have ever heard hahaha wth is it??

  • I was born in 1951 and have followed football all my life. I would rate Jim Brown as #1. (...and believe me...he had legitimate reasons for his "attitude"...).

  • oh yea, plus the fact that the lions sucked ass, and his offensive line was maybe one of the worst.

  • Brown was awesome, but he played in a time when there was (including offense and defense) 2 or maybe 3 athletes on the field during any one play. basically alot of ordinary joes. Barry played during modern times when everyone on the field is an athelete. Brown was what like 6'1 or 6'2, Sanders was listed at 5'10, but more like 5'8 or 5'9. Dont get me wrong Brown deserves his due, but he is a cocky SOB, with a poor attitude. Barry is a much more likable guy.

  • EARNIE DAVIS WAS BETTER!!!!

  • ok...enough of the barry v brown comparison...2 completely different styles, browns the big bruiser power back, barrys the slash and dash agile back... put it this way...GREATEST POWER BACK- JIM BROWN...GREATEST SPEED BACK- BARRY SANDERS

  • "focus"

as for other places as well not just one

more comp my frshmen year up your..........

    "no phone calls"

  • barryt is all man he didnt want to beat anyones record that he respected or looked up to which means he didnt go all out

  • awe⋅some

adjective 1. inspiring awe: an awesome sight.

    2. showing or characterized by awe.

    3. Slang. very impressive: That new white convertible is totally awesome.

    dude

  • For those who want to put Brown down as the best ever that's fine and your opinion. To say that Brown is better than Barry Sanders, I disagree. As good, yes. When individuals claim this, it's funny how they point to history and stats. In my mind when you compare someone to Barry stats only go so far. You are dealing with a guy who REFUSED to go back in a game to pass Okoye for the rushing title his rookie year. That tells you right there how far stats will go in a Brown vs Sanders argument.

  • Once again. Jim Brown is the trailblazer for all the other running backs. It has nothing to do with skill, speed, strength. You are comparing running backs using that measurement then, perhaps they would overshadow him. But, he held records for twenty or more years. He had to deal with discrimination, etc. You have to look at the ERA in which he played. Men of all races were involved in the CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT! How many sports figures of today could, would,do what Mr. Jim Brown endured.HISTORY!

  • Jim Brown is head and shoulders above the REST.

That is a quote from Steve Sabol who has watched every play of both of them. He is only the Pesident of NFL Films and " might " just know a little more than us Youtubers, Jim Brown is also regared as the Greatest athlete of all time in any sport. Besides

(if) does not count IF I were born a king I would be the best king ever I am not but "IF" I was born one I could be.

  • great vid. on my profile i got also some old footage of Ernie Davis.

  • Greatest Running Back of all time

Over 100 yards/game AVERAGE for career!

    Averaged 5.2 yards per carry!

No one comes close. JB rules!

  • barry sanders is not only close but averaged 5 yards/carry in a more intense day and age of football. Plus, sanders was classic for yard lossage, which isn't a good thing obviously but you have to recognize that when he carried the ball forward he would juke and outplay everyone. In my mind he has the best runs ever. He retired early and would have broken every running back record in history.

  • In your mind he is the best and that is fine.

You have picked a worthy RB. But I would still go with all the real experts who like Barry" own

not hesitate to say Brown was the Greatest. Oh

by the way Jim Brown retired early too, at the top of his game.8 o 9 yrs leading the league. His Field was never streched way out like Sanders was. Jim Brown was going to get the ball and you would put 7 or 8 guys in the Box and he was still unstopable.

  • YOU ARE SO RIGHT THAT IS A FACT. He is also

the greatest NFL player ever and the greatest

Athlete in history. These people have not a clue what total domination is. Brown did not play now and IF does not count at all, if is not reality,,,,,at all!!

  • argubly one of the greatest athletes ever. Great football player and I think a lot of people forget that he was an all-american lacrosse player in college as well

  • Greatest athlete ever.

  • You are SO RIGHT JIM IS HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE ANY BACK EVER PERIOD!!!!!!!

  • its pretty kool i can say my grandfather played a pick up basket ball with him

  • Jim Brown is the greatest running back I have ever seen. Earl Campbell,Walter Payton, Emmitt Smith, etc. All are great. But, before them came a man that entered football when a black man was considered less than dirt. This man took a beating on the field and off, and delivered a brand of beating of his own. I will admit the players have gotten bigger, faster, stronger. But,the will, the drive,to endure discrimination is even greater. No current player is greater than this man. All hail Jim brown!

  • it's called barry sanders. You also have to realize that like any sport it progresses year after year. Just like a 70's basketball team wouldn't compete with the kids today, no way some oldschool football player would compete with newschool. And barry retired like five years too early. watch the highlites on barry and change your mind.

  • Of course he can't compete with todays RB

because in reality he isn't in todays game

in reality he played before these people today and dominated sports like no one ever has.

What he did as the Greatest in any sport is

not about if he played today, cut and paste proof that any RB in history is better.

IF is not reality, it is an assumption. do

a little research and see how many EXPERTS

    pick Jim Brown

It is not my opinion it's experts that have seen them all pay and have no doubt at all!

  • Oh, and I'm sure if a young Jim Brown played in the NFL today, the first guy that thinks he's "half as good" would probably be the first guy to end up on his back, too.

  • gagesamson -you tell JIm Brown that you stupid fuck!

  • this guy was good for his time but that was 45 years ago players have evloved, there bigger stronger and faster, if u but jim in the nfl today he would be half as good as he was back then sorry tell u that but barry is probly the best

  • hahahaha. your an idiot. jim brown is the greatest ever.

  • Pound for pound and year for year, Jim Brown is the best. He was the fastest to 100 touchdowns, a record that stood until 2006, is still the only player to average over 100 yards per game, and averaged 5.2 yards per carry (amazing in any era). And the guys today have 16 games in a season to do what they do. His first 4 seasons were only 12 games and then only 14 after that.

If he would have played 8 or 10 more seasons, I bet most of his records would still be unbroken. The man was a beast!

  • Barry sucked when it counted most the Playoffs

does that qualify him for best ever?????????

His Playoff record is pathetic at best and don't say he didn't have a line that is very false, they had two wide outs with 100 catches each IN THE SAME SEASON with no line YEA RIGHT

  • pass protection and run protection doesnt really fall in the same place. barry may not be the best but he can be considered as one of the best if u know what im saying. now jim brown definently had a o-line.

  • watch some barry highlights and consider that he retired at least five seasons early and you'll change your mind... if you're logical. Barry is leagues above the rest in my opinion

  • In all due respect I will take all the experts advice over yours these are people that have seen every play of both and if you ask any of them you will not get one to say Barry is better and like Barry, Jim Brown could have played alot more seasons. The President of NFL Films Steve Sabol who has seen every play of every great Back said Jim Brown is HEAD AND SHOULDERS above the rest,

I will take the PRESIDENT OF NFL FILMS AND EVEN BARRY'S OWN DAD ON THE SIDELINE OF A GAME WHEN ASKED ON NATION

  • well you also have to weigh in on the times each player played on and the teams each player played on... sanders was on not only one of the worst teams of the nineties but arguably one of the worst teams ever! Not THE worst but pretty bad. Plus the times they played in. I doubt very much that wilt chamberlain would do what he did in modern day basketball. A michael jordan or a kobe bryant is playing in a more evolved version of the sport. You may be right though, it's a moot point really.

  • my trop 5 fave backs of all time

    1 Barry Sanders

    2 Walter Payton

    3 Bo Jackson

    4 Earl Campbell

    5 Jim Brown

(i am aware that Brown should be at the top but it doesnt necessarily mean he was the funnest to watch...)

  • and gale sayers would be thrown in there too

  • That list of yours is backwards...

  • And wheres "Slasher" Simplesimon at? I know he's in jail, but he belongs on any short list of running back greats.

  • YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THAT.

  • When Jim Brown Played the game it was all business...no show boating, slamming the ball or dancing in the endzone. Homer Jones of the New York Gaints 1970 was the first player I saw on TV to slam the ball after scoring a touchdown. When you saw Jim Brown running on the field, you were looking at a Natural. The best game I ever saw was 1963 Cleveland Browns verse Dallas Cowboys at the Cotton Bowl. After that game, Jim was called Superman by the cities papers. He raise the standard in his time.

  • 8 RUSHING TITLES IN 9 YEARS!!

  • big deal

  • who the fuck are you! eat a a dick.

  • @akvalues Yep, and the one year he lost (finished second) he played the season with a broken wrist.

  • SUPERMAN IS JIM BROWN

  • wow wow wow hold on there buddy were talking about the 60s where defense was not as great and not as big or fast and alot of rules have changed since then I believe barry sanders is the greatest ever to even touch a ball i mean jim had a line barry sanders had nothing he was running around in the backfield evertime and the defense he faced are bigger faster and stronger alot than the 60s and more black are in the nfl in the 90s than the 60s

  • Jim brown is way better than anyone. When you played the Browns in Jims Day, it was no mystery what was going to happen. Ji m Brown was going to get the Ball 20+ times a game and your defense had about 6 -7 or 8 in the box against Brown. Barry had 2 receivers that had 100 catches in multiple years, no blocking??? Barry Sanders Dad even said on Live TV that Jim Brown was the best at one of

Barry's game. I mean his own father, c mon how many father would say that someone was better than their

  • his father couldn't see barry play because he was so fast and jim brown huge barry 5-6 or 5-7 and had to break big boy tackles i bet you weren't even alive to see jim brown play so shut up

  • PAYTON IS #2 BEHIND JIM BROWN SORRY.

  • I did some math, and if Jim Brown had played in 16 games each season like today (instead of 12 or 14 games) then he would have (based on yards per game) rushed for 2000 yards twice (a record 2130 yards in 1963), would have had 4 other seasons with 2000 combined rushing and receiving yards, and would wind up behind Emmitt, Walter, and Barry on the all time rushing list (even though he only played 9 seasons).

  • Jim Brown was simply the best...To do what he did when he did it. Just giving that fact consideration overwhelms me. One can only imagine what he dealt with and the engulfing effort it took to maintain his standards. Incredible. Hat's off to him. Jim Brown:Greatest football player ever. Maybe the greatest athlete as well.

  • YOU ARE A SMART MAN. The greatest athlete I can agree. If anyone even suggest that he is not the BEST BACK AND BEST PLAYER EVER,,,THEY BETTER DO SOME RESEARCH BECAUSE THE FACT THAT HEIS THE BEST RB EVER IS NOT EVEN DEBATABLE!!!

  • JIM =THE GREATEST

  • YO CHILDREN, OTTO GRAHAM, FOR THE BROWNS, PLAYED 10 YEARS. EVERY YEAR-10 IN A ROW-THE BROWNS PLAYED FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP, WINNING 7 TIMES. HE THREW 53 T.D.s & ONLY 13 INTs. NOBOBY WILL EVER DO WHAT THAT MAN DID! JIM BROWN RETIRED THE 'MVP' OF THE LEAGUE AFTER SMASHING ALL NFL RECORDS. HE NEVER MISSED A GAME! HE GAINED OVER 1800 YARDS ONE YEAR IN A TWELVE GAME SEASON. THESE GUYS PLAYED HURT & BLOODIED BUT SUCKED IT UP TO PLAY FOOTBALL. THINK ABOUT IT KIDS. THEY STAND ALONE ON PEDESTAL. NFL KINGS

  • picture videos suck

  • The Greatest Running Back That Has Ever Breathed

  • the best eva

  • One of the greatest running backs ever and one of the worst human beings..Too bad he is such a bigot and a wife beater..The man has some serious issues...

  • Jim brown is by far far far the best RB if not the best player ever but number two is either sweetnes (Walter Payton) or Barry sanders

  • have seen Brown play? hes fast, powerful, and everything else a rb needs! He can run with 2 linebackers on his back

  • jim brown out of manhasset, new york great player their and has amazing records also

  • Jim Brwn was amazing but the best running back I ever saw was Bo Jackson

  • Jim Brown Was better.....But Bo Jackson Would of benn number one

  • Nah Jim Brown still be number 1 he was the type of dude you don't piss off.

  • I don't know....I feel you about brown....I mean he used to act injured on purpose show the defense he was hurt and Run like hell.....But I think Bo was by far the best next to Jim brown....But Bo was only in the league for like two years and avereaged 5.5 yards a caryy thats the most in NFL History at the time.....Might still be....

  • oo ya n one more thing mattserna players back then were slow compared to todays players. theres soo much more training and work that goes into the nfl nowadays than before trust me the guyz now are way faster then the older players were but you were rite with one thing they were alot more mean i kinda wish the nfl would allow closelines i jus wanna c them again lol

  • we always got along great I wsih I woould have played with him and in .............circumstances together would have been really fun

  • He did run similar to him when I was next to his.........than screaming :(

  • brown is the man, over anyone.people say how "slow" pplayers were and i can tell u thats bullshit the players back then were twice as mean as todays players who trip on their feet and cry. plus, brown hardly ever was taken down by one guy. and joseph u are wrong barry couldnt do everything like brown. if barry tried to truck like brown he would fail. brown wasnt voted the greatest player ever for no reason. ask barry himself, or any old player that knows his stuff and they will say brown

  • well of course ppl will say that brown did it first ppl alwayz lick the cocks of guyz dat do sumtin first. it doesnt mean that day were the best i think sanders was the greatest bcuz he really had a shitty o-line but he still ran better than ne one ive ever seen in my life. players back then were a lot mo mean though fo sure its all full of pretty boyz now who just wanna get paid. but still i think brown was amazing but 2nd best

  • show video not picture you fucking nub cockmasterer. epic fail.

  • greatest football player of all time

  • what song is this?

  • rdolan, it's Edvard Grieg's, "funky dude", this was very big in Bergen Norway, but that was to be expected. A lot of Canadians call this song "funky dude, eh!".....Canadians are not very smart, most have problems with the concept of a 'toilet'. The 'outhouse' is considered a place of contemplation in Canada. But, no one has shown a Canadian how to 'flush', the smell up there would kill an Eskimo, and that is the rest of the story, Canada sucks, Canadian sucks & again, they're stupid!
  • "5 minutes of funk"

  • No player statistically dominated his position more than Jim Brown. He still holds the career record for yards per carry by a running back (5.2) and is the only rusher in NFL history to average more than 100 yards per game and more than one touchdown per game. His running style was the perfect fusion of power and finesse. But the skills were not more dominating than Barry Sanders hands down! Barry could do everything Brown did! Barry was better than Brown in every skill! when it comes to skills!

  • Jim was more of a power back, a runner like Walter Payton, a runner that didn't run from you, but at you! had everything a runner would want! His running style was the perfect fusion of power and finesse. Brown could run right through a defender just as easily as he could juke him out of his shoes! he dominated! but Barry Sanders had greater hands, as he did have greater feet! Reggie White use to say that barry sanders could embarress you twice on the same play-amazing!

  • Erik Kramer was the best QB the lions probley ever had! but those 2 years, he had no help and those were the 2 worst years of his carear! well, hardest hitting he took in his carear! again, Barry had no OL, Jim had a Great OL! Barry Sanders had a 2,053 yard season with a team with no OL!!! harry had only 1,457 yards away from being the first to past walter payton! in only 10 years! jim had 12,000+ yards and 106 Td's with a awsome OL at that first 6 years of his carear! Barry had no OL!

  • Dude I know, Barry had to scramble his ass off just to get the first down. Jim just broke tackles as he ran. Both of them retired early, and even though Barry Sanders had more rushing yards than Brown, I still think Brown was a better runner. The reason why is because he was a fullback, and there probably never will be another fullback like him. The only other fullback that I can think of that was like Jim Brown was Joe Perry for the 49ers.

  • when brown played, the seasons were shorter. brown never missed a single start, and is the only player in NFL history who averaged 100+ yards per game and 5+ yards per carry. barry sanders was great and i'm glad i got to see him in my lifetime, but i'm not sure that anyone can build a solid case as to why brown isn't the greatest ever.

  • Brown played in a weak era. He was bigger and stronger than many Defensive Linemen and linebackers were running 4.9 for the 40. Sanders 99.8ypg and 5.0ypc in the 1990's is more impressive than Brown's numbers in the 50's and 60's.

Brown also had very little competition and was running the ball on average 50-100 times more than other backs in the league.

No doubt he was the most dominant player ever but so was Wilt Chamberlain in basketball, another guy who's stats are inflated by his era.

  • Stats inflated by his era? Yes Sanders stats are. Would Sanders have gotten as many yards if he was gouged in the face and his hands stepped on every time he was tackled, staying in separate hotels becuase he is black, playing every game of his career outside on muddy fields instead of in the Silverdome? I think not. The old players would not do as well today BUT the modern player would not do as well playing back then either. There is no weaker era. The game has changed, that's all.
