The many volunteers that maintain the Slater have brought her back from the near dead..although the cost of repairing her power plant for getting under way on her own
is in the millions and prohibative. I am a former NAVY radioman 1967-1971.
Interestingly, the USS Slater while serving in the Greek Royal Navy (1951-1991) was the protagonist in several movies greek & american as well, including the famous "Guns of Navarone" (see link below) and the greek "Alice in the navy" !

I served there from 1989 to 1991, was decommissioned. Ship was seaworthy
