  • FOR ONCE A VIOLA IN THE FRONT! ^^

  • ?????? No real partiture....

  • excellent execution... but the quality of sound and video is very low... =(

  • too bad the quality is so low. :(

  • the violist is justin timberlake u.u

  • Not Bartók,but Bartók-Serly.Bartók from this piece only topics, noted sketches. This piece would not exist without Tibor Serly!!Musician, from a Hungarian country.

  • i luv different and weird music! this is brilliant! xD

  • Just great! What a wonderful piece of music this is. The various editions of this work have been controversial though.

  • Sweet, one more piece of music I won't rest until I obtain a recording of. I'm off to amazon@

  • Eres un mierda tio yo toco eso con la minga y estoy en tercero

  • woah, where is this taking place??

  • As a prof. violist myself: wonderful playing, really catches the atmosphere of the piece. Excellent, relaxed setup on the instrument.

  • hey prof, could u reccomend some viola pieces to me? all i ever listen to is violin but since discovering the sound of the viola im hooked. unfortunately there arent that many violists around.. so im a bit lost. any help would be appreciated!

  • wow...does any one know what hall this is in?

  • La Scala in Milan. It's an opera house.

  • kool thanks.

  • haha good stuff...he's awesome

  • One of my viola friends is playing this piece currently, so thanks for posting this little snippet- gave me a chance to better understand what the orchestra is doing during the solo passages.

  • Valid performance, accurate playing, BUT the openings of the first and third mvmnt are quite different from what Bartok had in mind, tempo, the dinamic of the phrase. i`d suggest Tabea Zimmerman or Kim Kashkashian as a good reference, because both worked with conductors and composers who new Bartok personally, or simply listen to som Hungarian Folk music. My two cents

  • is the Tabea Zimmermann recording available? Under what label. I would love to have it.

  • i`ve heard them both live with this piece, i own Kashkashian`s recording, cause its my favorite(the one with Kurtag conducting),as for Zimmerman there is a live recording which i know exists, because i heard it. hope it helps.

  • Great italian musicians! Bravo Danilo Rossi!

  • Bartok is the best!

  • lol the guys face looks funny at 1:50 O__o

    greeaaatt peace

  • I love this!!!!!!!!!

  • Bartok...simply speechless.

  • Love The Fro!!

  • I like this length, actually. A step-child of the Bartok Canon at best. Too bad Primrose was more concerned about finding a parking place in Manhattan near Bartok's apartment than with making sure the concerto was playable. Next time old Bill was in the area Bartok was dead. September of '45.

  • this is why nobody likes violist they are too dark!!!

and they try to imitate a violinist. Be a leader violas not a follower!

  • If you don't know, thanks the viola!!, because was born before the violin, so the violin not even would exist

  • Actually viola led. It came before the violin. And some of us like dark.

  • ._. cool ._.

  • i noticed that too. but didn't primrose have a more altoish rather than a tenorish tone? It isn't super heavy on the bass. I would LOVE to hear bashment play this(my fav violist in the universe)

  • his sound is kinda treble. Any one else notice this, or is this?

  • I was at La Scala in April and am pretty sure I noticed Danilo in the orchestra and wondered about him. Am a violist myself.

Beautiful performance of a striking and difficult piece.

  • w-w-waht a sound! That's amazing! I've never heard anything like it! *faints*

  • My favorite version of this concerto is by the violist Hong Mei Xiao. I sent my CD booklet and she autographed it for me and I keep it in my viola case for good luck.

This guy is good, though. I wish the sound quality of the clip was better and I wish it was complete.

  • I like Xiao, but my favorite recording is the late Julliard quartet's violist Raphael Hillyer with the Tokyo. Truly awesome playing. The very best live performance I've seen of this concerto was Yuri Bashmet with Philly. OUTSTANDING!

  • I am an american composer , and creat new weird music ...

  • My gost had to dial 9-1-1. It was that good!

  • Best italian violist after Piero Farulli, actually Rossi made part of the Italian Youth Orchestra, founded by Farulli himself.

  • Nice nuances in the introduction, but I prefer Kashkashian's recording a bit more.

  • LMAO. It's not a recording it's a live performance. Sheesh, the dorks on this site.

  • WOW!! LOL a string player with a fro!!! And he's skill's EPIC, too lol AWWWWESOME

  • ooft, he's good. his face looks funny at one point haha. but he does rather well. nice instrument too.

  • He gets a great sound out of his viola. The only thing that bugs me is the slight buzzing noise, but that's probably from the video, not the viola. Overall, very beautiful.

  • WOW! this guy and his fro is awesome! hehehe~

  • Never heard of this Danilo Rossi before, but he is really wonderful! I have never heard such a rich and melting tone from the viola before! I would really like to hear the entire concerto, which I have never particularly been fond of before.

  • His viola is so beautiful, I love its tone. Good clip.

  • Thanks for sharing!
