  • BRUCE brings out the pain in this song more so than tim but i do like both versions.

  • tim mcgraws version way better when tim sings u can feel it

  • I figured out why I like this version so much more than Tim McGraw's. In this one, I really feel the pain and depression. The pain of something torn apart and the depression of not being able to do anything about it. In Tim's version, it has more of an "unconditional love" like feel, without as much pain and anguish. It just feels unreal compared to the words. This version, the words match the feel of the music and voice. It's much more complete.

  • This is much better than Tim McGraws version!

  • @illinifanish They're both good in my opinion I don't see the need to choose between them

  • @illinifanish

I agree that this version is better than Tim McGraw's version. The sound is more pared down is pure, and beautiful. I like Tim but he mucked this song up.

  • A great duet which i hard them play at a show in Yoakum Texas

  • My best friend Kathy's favorite song, never understood till lately and no-one does till they feel it . We all survive it just as she did and we will. Great song.

  • This Song Should Be Sung By a Male & Female each Singing a Different Verse.

  • This is the best version of this song. I wish they would have gotten the credit they deserved.

  • this song should be sung by a women!

  • I don't understand how this only has 87,000 views.

  • amen on the comments above...so much better than the remakes!

  • This is a fantastic heart felt version of this song. I too have always wondered if this song was a man telling a story of what a woman said to him or just his side of the story. I can easily understand where the confusion comes in. Bruce wrote this song for Faith Hill to sing originally, but Tim Mcgraw really liked it & recorded it instead.

  • i saw this on tv years ago.. back when tim mcgraw had it big, but this version always stuck out..always more honest. i still feel that way. hard to watch but the so much more feeling and honesty.

  • i can relate

  • I've lived this song. =(

I still love it though. =)

  • THIS is country music and their voices are amazing together.

  • I absolutely love Bruce. I personally think he is a better singer and song writer than Charlie(no offense). I went to Bruce's concert on the Medina River in Bandera Texas- his home town, It wasn't a big concert just a bunch of locals getting together on the river to lay in the grass and listen to great music with the family or a date. He put on an amazing show with all the proceeds going to the local high school cheer leading team. It was the type of show you just don't see to much of anymore.

  • I think one of the most interesting (and unique) things about this song is that it's the man telling the woman's story. It still makes perfect sense somehow, and it adds a lot of depth to what's going on.

  • @vakyl11 how do you figure that?

  • @56tinman56 Which part?

  • @vakyl11 what makes you think it is a man telling this story from a womans point of view...and not his own??

  • @56tinman56 I think the line "The boys are strong now, the spitting image of you when you were young" makes it pretty clear, no?

  • @vakyl11 no not at all. Are you saying boys aren't sometimes the splitting image of their mothers? And the strong could be only a reference as to that they are no longer children...Grown now. I don't think it is clear at all. How about we just agree to disagree? but thanks for your input.

  • @56tinman56 No prob,.. just responding to your question.

  • @56tinman56 By definition "spitting image" means "exact likeness", so very few boys are the spitting image of their mothers.

  • @vakyl11 Its not written in the womans point of you take the line "I understand that lovin' a man shouldnt have to be this rough"

  • @TheLkirkland I Have seen him multiple times at small venues. And he discusses this song most every time. He wrote it from his mother's perspective when his mom and dad were separating.

  • what a songwriter so glad he's from Tejas

  • i wish this vid would play. at least i got to see the lame advert, thanks for nothing google

  • I happen to love this... Tim and Faith are more commerical.. but this brings the heart of the song. As a songwriter, I have to agree that no one will put the heart in it that you do. I may not have the money to make a big production like Tim and Faith... but I keep writing songs that mean something to ME..and hope one day someone will hear it. :)

  • @DelawareDream

I hope you music is heard by others, truly.

But remember when a tree falls in the forest

it does make a sound even if no one is there to hear it. rock on

  • @taligocat

THANK YOU!! I needed to hear that today. :)

  • She has been described as "being prettier without makeup, than most women are with makeup". I have to agree.

  • I lean toward this video and Bruce better than Tim McGraw's. I lost my husband over a year ago and this song sure has made me realise that time is short. So for couples out there, don't take each other for granted, and being angry all the time isn't worth it. I should know, because I was that person, my husband was the calm, happy one, and after I lost him to God, I can't tell him I'm sorry and change my ways, it was too late, I never got to say goodbye to him. This song has a lot of meaning.

  • @debrakay1124

I HAVE LOST 2 HUSBANDS, SO I KNOW YOUR PAIN AND YOUR REGRETS. GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK, YOU ARE ONLY HUMAN AND WE ALL MAKE MISTAKES, EVEN THE HAPPY ONES WITH GOOD HEARTS. I LOVED THEM BOTH AND THEY KNEW IT AND I KNEW THEY LOVED ME TOO BUT WE SOMETIMES PUT THEM UP ON PEDESTALS WHEN THEY DIE BUT WE HAVE TO REMEMBER THEY WERE NOT ALWAYS PERFECT.....LOVE AND REMEMBER HIM DAILY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE..LOVE GOD TOO.

  • @TheANN1958

Thank you so much for your advice, it really helped me knowing I'm not alone.

    Thanks

  • @alamanderflash it doesnt have to meant that the boys are the spittin image of how there mother looked. it means that they have her same spirit and attitude. People used the same line with my father and me. I favored my mother in looks but as far as personality i was my father's daughter.

  • I love Tim and Faith, but for once they take a back seat to this couple.

  • A phenomenal song by Bruce and Kelly! Boy, it makes you proud to be an Austinite, doesn't it?!

  • actuaally bruce wrote and does the best version of HIS OWN

  • Absolutely love this song...no matter who is singing it...but Bruce and Kelly really make it ache! Mmmm

  • This song is so real for couples who have been together for awhile!!!

  • Saw this video played on GAC the other day. LOVE it! I love that GAC will play older videos instead of the same top 20 like the OTHER Country Music Television station.

  • This is a beautiful song but the acting is terrible, probably because they are a pretty happy couple.

  • tim mcgraw hands down.

  • @redhot181 your a fucking queerbait for saying that.

  • @tylersabadasssss LMAO! read your comment over and then come with a better comeback fag

  • @redhot181 haha okay. tim mcgraw COVERED this song. that just shows how talented he is.

  • @tylersabadasssss nice username first off. yaaaok. and well regardless of covering or singing originally they can be simply compared on how well they're done. and tim did it better especially with faith hill with him in the song..this ORIGINAL version doesnt beat tim's COVER

  • @redhot181 You need to get your ears cleaned. Tim and Faith's version was slick and unemotional; Bruce and Kelly put real heart and pain into the song. The difference is that Tim and Faith are willing to kiss up to the powerful people in Nashville and Bruce and Kelly aren't.

  • This has my vote for one of the best country songs ever!

  • omg i haven't heard this song in years i was looking through my old tapes yes i said tapes but god this song fits me so much right now in my life it's just crazy i was 17 when it came out :/

  • I bought this album over 10 years ago because of this song and I loved every song on the album. Great songwriter and singer. No one can sing a song like the songwriter .

  • i always thought this would be a better song if it was sang from a womans point of view...great song none the less

  • @Codinia

It's the obvious choice, which is why I disagree.

  • @shelton705 The lyric "Our boys are strong the spittin image of you when you were young" doesn't make much sense with a man singing it, it seems to say that the boys look pretty girly. Also, "And I understand that lovin a man shouldn't have to be this rough", while it can work either way, works better coming from the woman.

  • @alamanderflash

It's possible for boys to have physical traits similar to their mother without looking "girly."

  • @shelton705 "Spitting image" means exact likeness, not general similarity.

  • @alamanderflash Did you Webster "Spitting Image"? I'd like to see "exact likeness" as the accepted definition by some accredited source.

  • @GHOSTntheMACHINE thefreedictionary. com spitting image n A perfect likeness or counterpart.

wiktionary. org spitting image (plural spitting images) n. (colloquial) The exact likeness (of someone).

Dictionary.reference. com —Idiom13. Spit and image. Also, spitting image, spit 'n' image. Informal .exact likeness; counterpart

  • @GHOSTntheMACHINE merriam-webster. com says that it uses meaning 3b. of image, which is listed as “a person strikingly like another person”

webster-dictionary. com quoting wordnet dictionary Noun1.spitting image - a perfect likeness or counterpart

dictionary.cambridge. org to look extremely similar to someone

Had to break links to post.

  • @GHOSTntheMACHINE spittin image means you look just like someone else. It's a universally accepted way to say just that . Webster doesn't need to be present for it to be true.

  • you suck

  • you are honestly going to say that was better than Tim Mcgraw and Faith Hill? Are you sick in the head? Now I am not a big Tim or Faith fan but I can honestly say that they destroyed this song. I loved it before I heard them strangle a cat while trying to sing it. You want to talk about little respect? How about little respect for the song that these two had by butchering it?

  • @Inlovewithagoddess

You know this man wrote the song, and this woman sang the original part that Faith Hill copied on their recorded version...right???

Kelly, the one I assume you are calling a strangled cat, also sings back up with Faith ....though she is a far superior singer...even Faith thinks so.

You obviously don't know anything about music.

This was recorded years before Tim and Faith and on lower quality equipment...

    Educate yourself, you're a fool.

  • This Song was written well. Just think that the arrangement, and Vocals done with Tim McGraw were much better.

  • Love this! Finally a video by the song writer instead of a karaoke king. If I have to hear one more Tim & Faith duet, I'm going to step in front of a train.

  • nashville pushes all that crap down our throats i love texas and oklahoma style country much better

  • beautiful video

  • wow, i've never heard this before, it was great! I just assumed tim and faith were the first. It's so much deeper.

  • Love this song--One of my favorites!

  • love love love this song .. way better then faith and tim mcgraw .. awesome job ..

  • this is one of the greatest sad country songs

  • One of the greatest duets ever. At the very least, they should have won songwriting awards and duet of the year. Amazing performance.

  • SOOOO much better than the Tim and Faith version. It's a crime that Bruce and Kelly get so little respect from the Nashville establishment and radio.

  • @alamanderflash I could not agree more. This is one of the best written and best performed country songs ever. They deserve so much more recognition.

  • @alamanderflash It's actually Tim and Martina McBride.

  • @timsgirl Uhh, no it's not. Tim and Martina did it on a live performance on CMT once but Tim recorded it with Faith.

  • @alamanderflash TIm recorded it. But Tim should not have any rights to the song. It goes to the owners. Bruce and Kelly. It does belon to Bruce and Kelly. The song came out in 1998.

  • @66pinkangel I'm sure the writers of this song are very appreciative that Tim McGraw cut this song. I'm sure it received much more airplay and record sales as a result. I'm sure "Bruce and Kelly" both smile everytime they get a royalty check...

  • i agree it sucks that people get so little respect for something that they wrote but someone else can redo it and get the twice the respect

  • Great song, two great artists, who could ask for anything more?
