it could be that but I think it's because Conan was never really that strong of a host and NBC blew it...AGAIN! What's that they say, "If it's not broke, don't fix it?" Seems to me that NBC should've listened to this heeded advice but as usual they didn't! I saw Conan's first show and it started ok, I guess. Then the jokes were too long, like beating a dead dog, just to get as many laughs as possible. It had nothing to do with Palin. Just Conan being lamer than Dave if that's possible?

whether the stimulus is working or not has nothing to do with the drop in our economy which began under Bush. Most likely, we will see the economy jump back, history shows that a stimulus gets the economy back on its feet, yet further down the line they can cause problems, we'll see. I do think being a senator for almost 10 years is more qualified than being a governor for less than 1 year.

Palin goes to a Yankees game with her 14 year old daughter. Letterman talks about this and makes a joke about her daughter getting knocked up by A-ROD in the seventh inning of the game. Call me crazy but COMMON SENSE says he was talking about the daughter that was at the game.

First, it would not be slander, it would be libel, which is a form of defamation. Secondly, there is no case here for slander or libel. Letterman could easily make the case that the joke was directed at the older daughter, Bristol, who, thanks to her mother and her own actions, is a public figure known for getting pregnant out of wedlock. He had not damaged her reputation by speaking an untruth. Alex Rodriguiz might have a case, but not the Palins.

Since Letterman's joke was broadcast over the airwaves, it would be libel, not slander. Now that we have determined that you are still an idiot. Again, there would be no case since the Palins are public figures and are thus open to Letterman's jokes (no matter how tasteless they may be). Letterman did not need to apologize because Palin could not take action against him. If there was any ulterior motivation, it was probably fear of losing advertisers.

You do not understand the difference between a verbal and printed defamation. when defamation occurs on radio and television, today's statutes generally categorize defamation occurring in those media as slander. You don't get to defame people just because they have appeared in public. In 1964 "The New York Times vs Sullivan" ruling states that the plantif can prevail if the slander was made "with deliberate knowledge that the statement was both incorrect and defamatory." Moron!

The current statutes place comments made by the hosts or regular contributors to television shows under libel, not slander. As for the case you cite, it does not apply here. Public figures are allowed to be parodied or satirized, even if it is in poor taste. Defamation is when someone says something that is supposed to be taken, or could be taken, as truth. The "Sullivan" case precisely applies here, all the Palins have to do establish "Malice". Since Dave has made twice as many "Palin jokes" since the election than all the other hosts combined, it would be easy to convince a court of malicious intent. Also, the fact that Willow is by no means a public figue, the standard is much lower and "truth" is all they need to present. dave had already lost sponsors because of this and he was afraid of a trial that could end his career

Willow is a public figure thanks to her mother dragging her out to events like this. Again, parody and satire are protected under the law.
