I also think he's using his voice to simulate a jew's harp. I wish I could have seen the audience reaction to this. A gig in Carnegie Hall is no small achievement. When I first heard Flatt and Scruggs had been there, I had to do some checking before I believed it. I thought they only permitted classical music. I have since found out that's not the case. But it's a huge honor to play there.

I believe it's called both a "jew's" and "jaw" harp. Don't quote me on this but I believe the reason it's called a "jew's harp" is because it origninated in Eastern Europe and was mostly a Slavic instrument. Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe and Russia brought it to America where it probably got the name "Jew's harp". That would seem to make sense but of course someone will probably point out that I'm completely wrong. It's just my theory.

@voodoorhythm his tone is tinny and his attack is violent, it's not the dobro sound, and because he uses a flatpick in a position it's not meant to be used in, his songs have to be so basic, that anyone could play them, prior experience or not.
