A nice thought, but it's not under manufacturer's warranty now (if it ever was) so they would be under no obligation. Even if they had a repair service I doubt they do any more. At any rate - it is probably cheper to buy a second hand one. But if I'm buying anything it will be a DS. I really want to play Pearl version.
