Is that the hood scoop??? If so you need to take a few lessons instead of trying to show someone how to make one that looks that fucked up!!! Damn my 12 yr old could make one look professionally done compared to that hunk a shit
If your going to try this at home least cover the foam with something like aluminium foil or aluminum ducting tape (NOT the plastic duct tape) so the fiberglass resin doesn't melt it and you lose all your work unless you use a Urethane foam that's resistant to melting
resin without hardner? or did he just leave that out- they never give you enough hardner major pet peeve about using fiberglass, well that and the stuff sticking all over me
looks good man and i dont see muself spending 2-300 dollars on a custom hood scoop either plus it looks good and its a good convo starter but you shouldve made it a little longer in thoe
I shaped mine (for an 81 El Camino) from cardboard. Did it right on the body with short strand fiberglass. Obviously, the cardboard rotted away, which I wanted it to.
refined with glazing putty. It's a cosmetic scoop only...no hole in the hood, but it ain't going anywhere. solid as a rock.
@DYNO323 in theory yes it would work,I seen a guy make a truck bed from his old rusty one, takes lots of glass and time, sooo much resin,he was never the same after that,be sure to ventilate well
from the first half, it looks like you have no idea what you are doing. also that hood scoop looks way off from what you built with fiberglass using a male mold only. fake
i was wondering could i use alot more styrafome and less fiberglass resin to make it lighter? im trying to make a large sword but this makes it look simple and easy oh yeah i almost forgot if i do use more styrafome to make it light will it still have a strong hold? considering its really light
The styrofoam is just the mold dude... its not a part of the hood scoop at all it is just used to shape the design... fiberglass is relatively light anyways but if you dont know what you are doing you could easily ruin your vehicle's hood... I reccomend practicing before you try to actually install one on your car... but if you are really interested in it just get a street performance hood scoop with the 3m tape and then bondo the scoop in... easier and less time consuming dude
Its not as eay as it looks. I made a cowl induction hood for my camaro. I CNC machined a mold and fibreglassed it. I bolted it to my hood. The body work takes a lot of patience, This Video does not show it. I have put in over 500 hrs on the hood and its almost complete. I bet this fellow took ithe hood to a body shop to get the filler and sanding done.
Fantastic Idea. once you get the basic shape you can cut taper & roll the edges with more cloth creating almost anything and making it better then store bought scoops
hahaha i bet you think it added power

That looks absolutely horrible. I think the shonky paint job just amplifies every little imperfection. :/

Good idea, and good work... But I hope that is a fiberglass hood. Different expansion rates = cracked paint.
