Which still have no control over the prices set by privatized oil companies who are exclusively interested in profit and expansion, who lobby congress and bribe much of DC to get their way and remain the dominate energy kings.

Lower gas prices so Americans (who are the largest oil consumers on the planet) can consume more oil, and make us more dependent on foreign energy which would not only put the US into further debt but also cause a global economic catastrophe. What we should be doing is paying $8 a gallon and investing the remainder into sustainable energy solutions, cause at the rate we are using oil now we'll be absolutely screwed in two terms.

In the past century, we have pumped enough greenhouse pollution into the atmosphere to begin to change earth's climate. 2010 was THE HOTTEST YEAR EVER RECORDED, and rates of non-geological natural disasters have TRIPLED since 1980. We've regulated some types of pollution, like what causes acid rain, but greenhouse gas emissions have been largely untouched so far. Sure the earth heats and cools naturally but change this rapid means something is wrong

You blame Bush for gas prices in 08. But we cant point the finger at Obama? Why, because he's black? Obama cant effect oil prices directly, of course not. But when he tells the world we wont be seeking any new sources of oil drilling, that tells speculators (who do control oil prices) that the biggest consumer of oil (USA) will be in need. It would seem that this is just a republican gripe about how the president is doing nothing over something HE HAS NO CONTROL OVER!!! He's not your nanny, he won't wipe your ass for you. You as a consumer, influence the economy and the products exchanged within it. If you really desired change, you'd invest in R&D of alternative means of energy and lobby companies to do the same.

Obama has nothing to do with gas prices, oil companies do, Saudi oil tycoons do, limited supply, high demand, and costly extraction processes do. The ONLY connection between gas and Obama is that Obama collaborates with the heads of the EPA and department of agriculture. Which still have no control over the prices set by privatized oil companies who are exclusively interested in profit and expansion, who lobby congress and bribe much of DC to get their way and remain the dominate energy kings.

Why don't we tap our own oil reserves? Why don't we deal with South American's which would drastically reduce gas prices? Why do we continue to stay on our knees to Saudi sheiks? It's obvious. A select very few wealthy individuals are making ALOT of money when prices go up and those individuals are the one's who call the shots. And this is coming from a conservative.. but I know that's what goes on. Look up gas price setting.

I think the Republicans need to match Obama and find someone who is just like him to garner liberal/independent voters. So what they need is someone with little to know political experience. No military experience, someone who has no business experience, someone who has no executive experience of any kind in any position he has ever held.

@Andy180084 actually, everyone was pretty PO'd when gas hit up above $4/gallon for the time it was there after katrina. prices dropped back below that level until obama took office and his policies attacked oil production in this country. under him so far there has been none of the regular increase and decrease we had seen before with clinton and bush; just an increase. and you're wrong, the president does in fact have an impact on the price of gasoline.

The government and it's emissions controls on cars is bull shit I own a car that I made some modifications I have a 350 cid v8 motor no catalytic converter yet I have more power,better mpg, and the car runs cleaner than it did with cats. and emissions with a 267 cid motor so all this emission control is bull shit to cost us more money less mpg and higher gas prices

WOW, another brilliant plan proposed by the Republican party. Lower gas prices so Americans (who are the largest oil consumers on the planet) can consume more oil, and make us more dependent on foreign energy which would not only put the US into further debt but also cause a global economic catastrophe. What we should be doing is paying $8 a gallon and investing the remainder into sustainable energy solutions, cause at the rate we are using oil now we'll be absolutely screwed in two terms.

@jdeanthirteen remainder of what? you say $8/gallon and there is some sort of remainder? in what division equation are you using that somehow nets a remainder to invest in alternative fuel sources at $8/gallon? cap and trade doesn't work unless you're counting all the money gore is making. ethanol could maybe work if we weren't using corn (which destroys soil). putting a moratorium on our own off shore drilling and then pledging money to another country to drill drives up debt. but go BO right?
