  • I should not really have to this but I do have a deep respect for native welsh speakers , those who were brought up in the language naturally have a deep affection for it .

  • Brwydro fe wnai disgyblion Rhydfelen i sicrhau parhad beth mai Rhydfelen ar gyfer y dyfodol

  • DOES UNMAN FEL YSGOL GYFUN RHYDFELEN....Gobeithio fod cynghorwyr Plaid Lafur yn teimlo'r colled rydym ni gyd yn ei deimlo

  • ha got me with that one!

  • To me and the majority of south walians the welsh language is an oddity. We are intensely proud to be welsh and but sure what that means , most will guiltily shuffle and say i would like to learn but really cant be arsed. The born againers however full of religious welsh zeal condemn anyone who does not join the cause they dig out irrelevant facts the rebecca riots etc zzz this is the internet age and without s pedwar eck which we all pay for + assembly only woods would hear the language

  • @acefreaky It's fair enough if you don't want to learn, that's your choice. All Welsh speakers don't "condemn" people for not speaking it; I think Welsh should be respected out of courtesy. Like I said, I know all the literature that I would be missing out of if I only spoke English, those who don't speak more than 1 language will naturally find this more difficult to understand. Exactly as you said, this is the internet age, and so Facebook is available in Welsh and is on google translate.

  • @MissBecky5071 I actually went to the blessed " redfelin" at that time it was full of rabid nationalists and I am sure there were many that were swayed (brainwashed) we were given "cymraeg" to put over english street signs many do gooders dont realise is that in a welsh school everything is taught in welsh maths, french, physics come on where else in britain will you use aur in your experiments- .Wake up! the language is only pandered to to appease the woodspeople and the politically correct

  • Yup and I think being taught everything in Welsh has helped me in my Engineering degree. Many people in university speak more than one language, in fact you are an odd one out if you only speak 1. If you think it's a waste of time, I guess you want to stop teaching art, English literature, drama, etc. in schools too? Your extreme view is just as bad as the English hating view on the other end of the spectrum. It's a shame that the extremists pushed you to be an extremist too.

  • @acefreaky oh and it does help you to remember that the chemical symbol for gold is Au. As would knowing Latin.

  • @3tangle3 hatred of minorities? you really have never experienced the bile and bitterness vented about the english or even english speaking welshmen that i have heard ( maybe with foundation years ago) This is 2011 and language needs to be seen as a tool , English is an international language and as such essential for our childrens . Small minded nationalist agendas would take wales back to the stone age, british to me simply means all of us who share this small lump of rock scots/welsh/english

  • By the way the school looks like belsen- when i was there( quite some time ago granted ) a similar indoctrination programme as germany existed there, teaching halfwits half truths about their place in the world. They wrongly stated bi lingual on the school gate unfortunately thats as far as bi lingual went maybe they are different today- somehow as with the welsh assembly i doubt it.

  • @3tangle3 i gather from your home page that you are taken by the romance and mystery of the old ways. i was in john owens class for ysgrythiaith (think thats how you spell it) and am related to hedd wynn i had a troubled time as a teen and so tend to be a little more outspoken even now .Having never voted for the hated tories(Thatcher) or having a particular love for english toffs or the rich ,I still can only see the welsh language holding back welsh people from making their way in the world

  • @acefreaky no I think you are the old with the old fashioned views........lets bring back in the welsh not then...the arrogance of the fucking english language promoters is incredible when it was the fucking welsh who were the most progressive ppl on this island. its a fucking liberty

  • @3tangle3 being bilingual is proven to be good for the brain...............welsh speakers on average receive a GCSE grade higher than 1st language english students in England.....so please spread your fear mongering cachu elsewhere

  • Sorry to offend but for too long a lot of "welsh" people have stayed silent pushed around by the nationalists and their language agenda. All the welsh schools produce are children who can pronounce their street signs- probably the very few in their communities that can! Instead of wasting money building welsh schools producing barely literate children why not teach our kids enterprise and ready them for a world of work the real problems of wales are poverty and the welfare state think merthyr!

  • @acefreaky I would like to say that I have no hatred towards the English, half my family are English. However, I am a product of a Welsh school and I'd like to say that I can do a little more than pronounce the street signs in Wales. I'm currently entering my fourth year in Engineering, not so bad now is it? (..to be continued)

  • .......I don't know if you are a Welsh speaker yourself, but I know that I would have lost out big time had I not gone to a Welsh school and missed out on all the wealth of literature and music associated with it. There are some people who are still bitter about what's happened to the Welsh throughout history under English rule, such as the "Welsh not" to give an example; but you do need to understand the advantages of the language and the nation. (to be continued)

  • .....I hope that we the Welsh, can move on from the cruelty that's been shown towards the language, and that some people who still hate the language can move on in respecting it's importance. Some people's attitudes may be extreme, but please don't let this cloud your view, one particular poem sums this up for me: "Hon" by T.H. Parry Williams. There is an English translation if you don't speak Welsh, but the poetic sound is unfortunately lost in translation. Best Wishes.

  • Not what they told me in the blessed "redfelin" I had john owen as my religious studies teacher - never a good start in life.forgot to say the song is nicely sung although translated probably says something like all "sais" are second class citizens something i was also taught at red not officially. Maybe i am just hung up over it, I have the greatest respect for welsh speaking communities but dont think in todays world its a language fit for purpose if it was a tool id leave it in the shed!

  • @acefreaky latin is not the oldest language you twat

  • Gwarth ar Gynghorwyr Rhondda Cynon Taf am newid enw'r ysgol - er nad oedd mwyafrif y disgyblion, rhieni nag athrawon ishe hyn i ddigwydd. RCT Councillors you should bow your heads in SHAME!
