@zerouniversaldrift AH OK. I actually got the phone on last friday, and saw the app. I have gotten a few of the apps you've mentioned, and used a lot of your tips. Like the vids!
Got this phone and now I am a bit concerned at how slow it sometimes is. Or maybe I am slow - my first android. LOL
I am wondering if anyone else has problems being slow when on say Youtube, or Facebook (does not update my messages fast). Also, if anyone knows if the Samsung Admire would be better?
@Eyeballsx317537 The reason things like Facebook and Youtube are slow is due to the network speeds. Metro is quietly rolling out 3G (it's live here in Daytona Beach and other areas) which should help. If you don't have 3G in your area yet the best thing to do is find a WiFi hotspot for things like this.
@zerouniversaldrift Thank you much! Yeah, I am having a lot of connectivity problems. At work today, I could not get online ALL DAY, and had a lot of problems sending texts. I don't understand since they supposedly cover my area extensively, I have seen the map of their area coverage where I am. Maybe the fact that I work around a ton of computers is interfering.
@jbizdapimpjuz I guess good apps are a matter of preference, that the great thing about Android/Open source... choices. I tried Go Launcher, but wasn't really all that happy with it, force closed a lot for me, I've been using LauncherPro for a while and love it. Dolphin HD I found to be slow and a bit of a memory hog, and never heard of Market Updater... I'll look into that.
@mc8697 Android Market is an online store from Google/Android that gives you access to 100's of thousands of apps, books and in some cases movies. With a lot of the apps and books being free. The movie portion of the Android Market is new and not available to everyone yet.
By default the Android Market is usually already on the main homescreen when you buy a new Android device. If it's not there it will be in the App Drawer (the center icon on the bottom of the homescreen on the Optimus)
@zerouniversaldrift help how do you add contacts and on the time and weather my time is an hour off how do i change that and do you need wifi to get to android market when i go to android market top free it says a networkk error has occurred retry or cancel and return to previous screen
@salx101 Like I've told many other people, if you want to send me a fully functioning, activated phone to do a review on, be my guest. This is a one man show... and I wish I had the money to review every new phone available.
Hey man, really appreciate what you do. I've learned a lot about my phone and what it can do from all your videos. Let me ask you; do downloading more apps and using them drains the battery more or the same as before you had them? Is there a way to make the apps drain less battery or place them somewhere not activated unless one's about to use them? The battery life on this phone is about the only thing I dislike about it, but then again almost every smart phone is the same. Thanks again.
@gowdaflow Thanks, glad the videos help. Android likes to have apps, preloaded in memory to make them load faster when you do need them. If you go to Settings -> About Phone -> Battery Use you'll see a list of what services use the battery, in percentages, since your last boot-up. You'll probably notice that besides "Cell Standby" that Bluetooth, WiFi & GPS use the most. Try downloading Advanced Task Killer to help with apps running & try only using BT, WiFi & GPS when needed to help save power
@xDaRkBeAsTxx This is a great phone for the price, much better than say the Ascend. If you have $300 for a phone and you live in a 4G area, you might want to take a look at the Indulge too, it's currently priced at $299 on the Metro website, is also Android 2.2, has a slide out QWERTY, 1GHz processor and more memory... apparently though it's very hard on batteries. But if you don't mind the slower 1x network speeds then the Optimus is the way to go.
@theHFchannel Most apps run smoothly on this phone, of course the more widgets, and apps you have running at anyone time will start to bog it down a little. Angry Birds runs ok on the phone, runs best if you put the phone into Airplane mode first as this stops the ads from running which tend to slow the game down.
@lilconvers1 Sorry, I deleted your other post to keep your email address from being spammed. The download of the app only took a few seconds the syncing between my PC and my phone took forever! @artgnz You might want to try a factory reset first. It will wipe all your data (but so will a new phone). If that doesn't fix the problem then have it exchanged. Settings -> Privacy -> Factory Data Reset
@zerouniversaldrift Oh. Well if its never happened to u. Ima go try and exchane it cause it restarts itself sometimes more than once a day for no reason. Usually when I'm downloading more than one app at the same time.
Cool vid, i have the same phone LG optimus M. Just bought it two weeks ago, but when im using it, sometimes it just restarts by it self, has that ever happen to you, or should i go change it
@TheChangi1 Yes, the phones are identical (inside, that is) the difference is only in the network it runs on, so you should be able to use all the same apps.
hey i have a optimus m too but its so slow and yours seems so much smoother and faster... did you do something to it ? Do you have any problems with your optimus m? like freezing or random reboot or static mic when talking into the phone?
@trixSTARR I haven't had any issues with my phone since I bought it. I did hear one person have static though and I believe he was told to do a factory reset of the phone and I think it fixed the problem. I have rooted my phone and removed most of the Metro pre-installed bloatware like Boingo and MyExtras and that sped the phone up a lot.
@james12252 Some apps require different features of your phone to operate. For instance an app like Facebook would need access to the Internet, your Contacts (to sync with), GPS (to check in) and so on. The apps "ask" permission because t's your phone and some phone carries charge extra for data and things like that.
now that its 2011 and the Lg optimus M is at 149.99 right now at metro...I would like to know how much it really cost...are they going to charge me additonal fees?
I bought the optimus yesterday from a store called wireless toyz and i got it for $222 out the door, remember it also comes with a 50 dollar mail in rebate so far its wayyyyyy better than my ascend that i paid $159 dollars out the door
@uniquelilmama19 Yes there is Skype, works over WiFi only, Recording length depends on the size and available space of your SD card, there are Internet radio apps like Pandora and Slacker, but no terrestrial (am/fm) apps, as the phone doesn't have a tuner.
@blackoutgang09 The only way to stop some apps it to remove them. The Android OS tries to keep apps running in order to make them appear faster (as in you touch the icon and it is immediately running), but some apps just use way too much battery power even when in the B/G I wish Android wouldn't do that. I personally don't care if it takes an extra 2 seconds for an app to open, I'd rather have my battery last longer!
Just to let everyone know. This LG optimus M is a great phone. But with it running on Metro's 1x connection, it just is not the best. Notice he is on wi-fi, wich is why its running so fast.
@Jennifergustawski search Google, I will not go through rooting with anyone... too many things can go wrong and I won't be responsible for someone "bricking" their phone. Sorry.
@DIABL0x3 It doesn't work with Nextel phones unless it is the Nextel Motorola I1 which is an Android phone. The app is just that an app, and needs another phone with the app on it to work. It has nothing to do with iDen which is what Nextel uses for DirectConnect/Push to Talk.
@lovelylesly1 Oddly enough, no. I did a little research and the only Battle Bears for Android is a very high end version that the HTC Evo even has a hard time running. Although I did find 3 "add on" packs for the game in the market, the game itself is not available. Looks like it's mostly for iPhone/iPad/iPod
@cheeslover Yes you can call iPhone users. This is simply a walkie-talkie type app, and the fact that it is cross platform compatible is fairly unique as not many apps are.
I know there are a lot of people with questions, and unfortunately I only have so much time to answer them. A lot of questions have already been asked & answered, so please read the other comments as you may find your answer there. Also you can visit my site at zerouniversaldrift . info (remove spaces), join the Forums and ask your questions there, where they won't get lost in a bunch of comments or pushed off the page. Thank you
@dogman683 Yeah, I mean, everybody's different so you'd have to try it out and see if you like it. It's definitely worth having for those times you're not in a WiFi area and need quicker access to the web. I'm going to do a video going over some different browsers and their pros & cons in the next day or so.
@dogman683 Opera mini is a good browser. If you're using WiFi it doesn't really matter which browser you're using it's all fast, but on the 1x network Opera Mini is the way to go. I did a test between the default browser and Opera Mini... 10 visits each to CNN . com, the history was cleared after each visit. After 10 visits each the default MetroWeb browsers average load time was 22.22 seconds, Opera Mini's was 9.90 seconds. Again that was with no wifi only the 1x service.
Hi there can you tell me how fb works on there and if you've been having problems with your fb app or fb on your mobile site from the browser? I heard fb has been buggy on android as well as ios, which I have now
@pikachula21 The FB app is a little buggy, that's more the developer and FB than Android or iOS. Although it seems to be getting better, I also keep the FB Touch site bookmarked and if worse comes to worse I'll switch over to Full Site mode. All variations do work on the phone though.
Hey man I am really stuck with what phone to get, the Huawei Ascend or the lg optimus m, are you satisfied with this phone? any down sides? batt life? and any information you may have to which phone i shld get??
@SoccerMAINE I am totally satisfied with this phone. For me it was well worth the $229, it's really well built, feels really solid in hand and does way more than I expected it to do. Battery life is average for a smart phone, I would suggest getting an App Killer from the Android Market to shut down apps you don't need running all the time & keep the Bluetooth, GPS and WiFi off when not in use to help with the battery life.
I can't speak for the Ascend because I've never used one. Sorry.
the downside about audiogalaxy is the computer has to be on to stream music but i like it makes it a bit easier for me to listen to my music
SuperChicano95 3 weeks ago
@SuperChicano95 Yeah that is a big downside, and part of the reason why I use Google Music now for this kind of thing.

@Jennifergustawski search Google, I will not go through rooting with anyone... too many things can go wrong and I won't be responsible for someone "bricking" their phone. Sorry.

those the push to talk app also works with da nextel phones ? plz i need to know thank u so much
DIABL0x3 1 year ago
@DIABL0x3 It doesn't work with Nextel phones unless it is the Nextel Motorola I1 which is an Android phone. The app is just that an app, and needs another phone with the app on it to work. It has nothing to do with iDen which is what Nextel uses for DirectConnect/Push to Talk.

NYballer11725 1 year ago
@lovelylesly1 You might want to go to their web site and email them about any plans they have for Battle Bears for Android.
zerouniversaldrift 1 year ago
@lovelylesly1 Oddly enough, no. I did a little research and the only Battle Bears for Android is a very high end version that the HTC Evo even has a hard time running. Although I did find 3 "add on" packs for the game in the market, the game itself is not available. Looks like it's mostly for iPhone/iPad/iPod
zerouniversaldrift 1 year ago
i don't get the point in the second app. can you not call people with a iphone?
cheeslover 1 year ago
@cheeslover Yes you can call iPhone users. This is simply a walkie-talkie type app, and the fact that it is cross platform compatible is fairly unique as not many apps are.

@truG83 why is it the best browser ur saying it beats opera mini??
dogman683 1 year ago
Ok ill try it out and ill be looking forward to ur review on the differnet web browsers.
dogman683 1 year ago
so its good enough to consider opera mini as ur main web browser?
dogman683 1 year ago
@dogman683 Yeah, I mean, everybody's different so you'd have to try it out and see if you like it. It's definitely worth having for those times you're not in a WiFi area and need quicker access to the web. I'm going to do a video going over some different browsers and their pros & cons in the next day or so.
zerouniversaldrift 1 year ago
i saw an opera mini logo..is opera mini a good brrowser and is it better that the preloaded android browser that comes with this phone?
dogman683 1 year ago

I heard fb has been buggy on android as well as ios, which I have now
pikachula21 1 year ago
@pikachula21 The FB app is a little buggy, that's more the developer and FB than Android or iOS. Although it seems to be getting better, I also keep the FB Touch site bookmarked and if worse comes to worse I'll switch over to Full Site mode. All variations do work on the phone though.

Hey man I am really stuck with what phone to get, the Huawei Ascend or the lg optimus m, are you satisfied with this phone? any down sides? batt life? and any information you may have to which phone i shld get??
Thank you.
SoccerMAINE 1 year ago
@SoccerMAINE I am totally satisfied with this phone. For me it was well worth the $229, it's really well built, feels really solid in hand and does way more than I expected it to do. Battery life is average for a smart phone, I would suggest getting an App Killer from the Android Market to shut down apps you don't need running all the time & keep the Bluetooth, GPS and WiFi off when not in use to help with the battery life.
I can't speak for the Ascend because I've never used one. Sorry.
