i wonder who was on that??? my husband works on the west end there.. must be a steam engine special... i think they only run that once or twice a year..
How many know that FEF stands for four-eight-four? I got told that by a six-year old standing beside me at the track one fine day, watching this wonderful piece of railroad history and legend coming down the line...
Todd, thanks for a great vid. and neat editing which gives a good impression of the 'presence' which this machine emanates: P-O-W-E-R 'N G-U-T-S And thanks to all who keep this great 4-8-4 rolling. Spine- chilling chime. Better than anything we had in UK.
'presence' is a good term! It feels as if it were alive to stand next to it. I'm glad everyone enjoy's the video so much! I love filming these as they come through.
it's amazimg how the 844 was never retired.

The locomotive reminds me of 'Big Boy' coz of its size. I'm suprised that Steam locomotives are still running over there

If you're talking about steam locomotives in the U.S. still running as mainline motive power, they don't - steam was phased out decades ago.
This is a special excursion train. It's only run by the Union Pacific RR on special occasions and for promotions, etc.
Believe me, I wish we had those kind of passenger trains still running on a regular basis over here! That would be so awesome!

WOW! This train is so impressive! I liked the slower shots, gave us a chance to see the rods of the valve gear working.
