Sorry, but you don't get shot at while flying RJs. Aerobatics? Nope. Formation flying? Nope. You don't have to worry about ordinance, or anything tactical. Not to mention military pilots have to fly missions in Wx which others will not. Not only do you have to do everything a normal pilot does but more. Not that there's anything wrong with RJs but there's more exciting options out there. Not to mention better benefits for the risk you assume.
@JeezyLT7599 Generally RJ Pilots get more hours, thus more flight experience. It could be argued that military flying is more useful experience, but not everyone is in an F16. Some are in planes just like the RJ. I don't know about the states, but in Canada CF-18 Pilots only get 200 hrs/year. It would take them 5 years to gain the flight time a regional pilot makes in a year. Plus, not everybody wants to shoot at stuff. We are not all adrenaline junkies who are fine with killing people.
I am fourteen and I inspire on becoming a commercial pilot, no matter what I have to do to become one, I will do it, no matter how long it will take me to become one, I will wait, I simply cannot see myself not being a pilot, it is my dream.

@N330AA Its not about researching the career, the problem is that there are people out there willing to take that salary instead of saying no, the market is perfectly capable of of giving higher salaries, they just wont as long as there is bottom feeders out there willing to accept fast food wages for this job.

The folks that make it put up with the crap and now they make decent money and fly the big rigs. It's better than working in a hospital and getting called in at 2 am to take care of a drunken illegal alien.
Remember that this isn't the first rung on the ladder either. There's years of instructing, scenic, meatbombing etc on the poverty line before they even get to the regionals. Sell the dream, live the nightmare. Pilot error equals Management error.

I'll bet if you looked at the numbers and did the math, you'd find management and the shareholders are raping the companies and declaring a loss to keep wages low, and avoid taxes. If the losses are real, the government needs to come in and set a base salary below which crew cannot be paid, or pass a law saying no closed shops.
