  • sometimes coat is not good enough.

  • thats a nice wall outlet.

  • Take of that charger of the wall again and the wall will fall

  • if you get black showing you don't have enough copper in the solution, let the copper just sit in the vinegar for an hour then start electroplating that should fix the problem

  • could it copper plate aluminium?....

  • can i use 3,7 volts instead of 12?

  • @a1b2c3z44 yea, the coating will be thicker and better but it'll take about 5 hours (depending on the size)

  • you need good agitation with copper plating. The object being plated is hooked up to the negative clip and the anode to the positive. Something more than a bent copper wire or more copper will help. It acts a s a reverse galvanic cell. Make sure the object is well rinsed after cleaning. Vinegar isnt the best solution for this experiment, but its okay.

  • I am having the same problem i get black copper oxide when doing this please comment.

  • @rccars4LiFE hope you figured out how to get the black oxide off. If so share :) my first plating experment was black, Try warming the solution up. I warmed it up by putting boiling water in a cup then placing my solution cup in the water cup and stirred. also i think dish soap can coat it and make it black if your contianer has any soap residue in it. But i'm no expert, just plated 8 times, still learning.

  • could paint thinner remove the plating?

    or wut can remove it?

  • When I do this, black copper oxide forms that is ugly as sin and rubs right off.. What am I doing wrong?

  • hey man, can you help me? I want to gold a copper thing after plating it. Can it gets rusted if it is exposed ? Or Have I need to put some protection on it?. I don´t mind if the gold layer quit , or at least not all of it. I´ve wanted both colours on this thing gold and plate. Sorry if you don´t understand all, I don´t speak english hehe

  • is it resistant to scratches, does the copper fall of easily?

  • It it more resistant after it dries but not 100% to damage.

  • Nice one! :)

What is that liquid? Can i use electrolyte used for car batteries etc?

  • @TheSliekaStyle The liquid is plain old 5% white vinegar.

  • Distilled white vinegar

  • Is there a proper connection? copper electrode to + or -?

  • @moleman1961 no there isnt just dont short out the connection

  • @whiteswb Actually there is, the item you want to plate must go in the negative side, so the copper (the host) must go in the positive side.

  • Simply awesome!

  • I think the quarter goes on the negative …

    Æ

  • @awsomepk01 That is correct.

  • does this work with any acid or just vinegar?(can i use citric acid)

and is the copper on the positive wire or the negative?

  • does this work with any acid or do u have to use vinegar?

  • how exactly does this work? the other way i knew abt was to use a copper compound in the electrolyte, but what happens here?

  • The copper electrode i placed in there slowly loses copper ions to the quarter and when i took it back out of the glass it was discolored kinda like the statue of liberty.

  • the electroplating industry says 6v DC is better because it doesn't burn the electroplate, it is also better to plate for a few minutes then wash it off with water the re-apply more electroplate.

  • If we short our walwart adapter, the fuse inside the adapter can blow. You will have to replace that fuse, which is somewhat hard to do. To prevent this hook up a fuse to your work. Or use a "D" battery. Have fun

  • what about chrome plating, it makes even more shinier coin.

  • correct me if im wrong, but i believe chrome does not dissolve in vinegar, you would require a much stronger (and more dangerous) acid. most people dont have the means to plate with hydrochloric acid.

  • Thank you - That was Very bright to use cheap vinegar as electrolyte. I will pick up your idea - quickly learn from experience

  • wat is the solution?

just use the common name of it iv looked every where :(

  • thats bull shit

  • Poor aligators.....

    But cool stuff though.

  • how can i do all experiment????helppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

  • It is copper. It is not disolved as easily as Zn ad exemplum.

  • I clean my quarter, even sanded it a bit, and everytime the copper coat comes right off when I try to wash it.

  • vinegar isnt that corrosive

  • Great quality video, easy steps, well done guys.
